TwinPower SW Review/Teardown. Save Your Money...

- The Shimano TwinPower SW brings a ton of technology to the table. Is the TwinPower a slightly watered down version of a Stella SW or is it a slightly beefed up Shimano Saragosa SW-A? Is the TwinPower worth the money $$$? This Shimano Saltwater Spinning reel gets completely torn down part by part and I cover what every part does and what I like and what I don't like. Overall I will detail differences with: TwinPower SW vs Stella SW and TwinPower SW vs Saragosa SW-A. Let me know what you think of this TwinPower SW teardown review.

Perfect timing, I just ordered this and started watching reviews lol Keep em coming!
Definitely more coming in the future!
Great review, thanks for the time spent making it! I just purchased a Twin Power 8000. I can't wait to get it! This video was very informative! I subbed.
Glad I got my Twin Power when I did. I got mine years ago from Japan and it has a completely different handle setup. Never had an issue with mine and it's been through hell and back. Is it sealed up like a Van Staal or ZeeBaas, No but it's the next best thing below a Stella, along with half the $ of those I mentioned. You call that over greasing? We would pack the body, this way if the is any sw intrusion there is little room for that water. My Twin Power didn't just get wet, it got dunked repeatedly.
You, my friend, sound like you are as Much of a Fishing Fanatic and enthusiasts as I am!!! I would LOVE to get to fish with you one day! Lol. I Moved to Florida 9 yrs ago, just so i can Fish anytime i can afford to go! Lol. I go on excursions for 4-5 days 3 or more hrs away from where I'm at in Sanford Florida, and locally at Titusville or New Smyrna or such on other good days.. and pour weights, work on my gear, etc.. on days that are not very fishable... as well as Cook up my fish for Dinners on my days at home.. lol
I have both stella 6000hgc n tp 8000 hgc , tp just as good as stella , casting n durablity is so identical , n less parts , shouldn’t be as twice gosa price but it is noticebly better , alittle bit better in over all torque ,castibility n water protection , worm gear osc is just a winner any day vs locomotive one ,for those who pay high attention to their average longer distance casts. Btw nice review with this great reel , we r here blessed with GTs n tp is a true working horse .
Another great review! Thanks for the amazing work. Just decided on the Saragosa, after watching several of you reels reviews. Your in-depth knowledge makes me feel like I made a sound and informed decision, and saves me a handful of bucks. Cheers, mate!
when your doing reel teardowns, do you have flashbacks of being in the military tearing down your rifle? lol
The rifle was definitely simpler and easier to work with haha!
@@RyanMorie “ Without my reel, I am useless. Without me, my reel is worth a few hundred bucks.” LOL!
Semper Fi!
What do you guys think about Penn authority vs twinpower
@@RyanMoriehi man, what grease do you use for service this twin power or any other reels? Thank you
Great tear down! Subscribed 😊
Waiting for this review!
I made it just for you!
Great video! Would love to see something similar with a Van Staal VSX, Visser, and Zeebass.
Great video, I have 6 gosas and they’re absolute work horses but I also have 4 TP’s that I absolutely love and have been bulletproof
Awesome to hear!
You should do a review on some of the newer van staal reel models, I don’t believe you did one yet on the smaller ones I may be wrong
hey man love the content, just wondering if you could do a comparison for the shimano twinpower and dawia certate.
I always convince myself I don’t need another reel for a little while until I see one of these reviews show up in the feed 😬
That's what I'm here for haha!
Great comparison of Shimano spinning reels. I have the 4000 SW as well as the 10000 SW (‘19) models. I love both of them and the drag systems got my attention. I’ve used the 4000 fishing lakes (bass and Northern Pike), offshore for Calico bass and surf fishing (local surf fish). A great reel to have to handle all types of species. I mainly use the 10k model for offshore. It has a lot of drag potential in comparison to conventional reels. 👍🔥 great video. 🐠
Great review bro
Great review mate 🇦🇺
Great job mate !!
Thank you!
Waiting for your review on the new Stella FK
Infinity drive, buy a lot of pinion gears, the shaft bushing wears quick on the Stella, remember that it’s very hard to buy replacement parts after the 10yr period. Most reels last a couple of years if you look after it, but infinity drive, Xlies parts do need replacement yearly. If you do your own maintenance then these items are irrelevant completely
Can you do a review of Shimano bait runner, thunnus or maybe a comparison between the two ?
Awesome breakdown bro!
Thanks for the loaner my guy!
Great take down and review!! 👏👏
Wondering if 2024 TP FE is an improvement over this?
Great review mate
Looking forward to testing my new Twin Power SW5000XG
Good luck getting it to service lol
@@johnnyrp8253
Why is that?
Hmm I will upgrade my line class and stay with my early 2000 sustain 4000. Never had an issue with water entering the reel body or any issues with pinion bearings
Absolutely love the review! Can you do a similar tee video with the daiwa certate sw and the daiwa saltiga?!!! Interested to know what you think about the certate. I’ve got the certate 10k and 14k for tuna fishing and honestly so far absolutely love them. Have caught several yft and bft on them in the last year and a half but not enough and definitely not big enough fish to test it out to the full extent of what the reel can handle.
Great review! Twin Power SW sure is gorgeous, and I believe that much better value than Stella!
I kind of drool a little when I stare at it too long 🤣
@@RyanMorie 😁
Great review
Thank you!
Any reviews or advice for Penn users? Love the info. Thanks.
Have you reviewed the Shimano Bait runner(s)? I have the 8000 OC and the 8000D,any thoughts? I did not see a review in your posts.
A quick temp fix for noisy bearing while you wait to new bearing to replace that noisy bearing. Soak the bearing in WD-40 in a bottle cap, so the bearing sits under the level of the WD-40. It will break down the oxidation. Then you can fish while you wait for the near bearing. Continuing problem bearings, I replaced with ceramic.
You’ve made me buy this reel.
Appreciate the videos, watched many. So in your comparison at the end you mentioned the Stella 13 at 93 out of 100. So is that something worth getting? Parts are probably scarce for an 11year old. Thanks
Would you be able to swap the saragosa part into the twin power? It's pretty poor design to have cheaper reels with better sealing when the twin power and stella are the top teir. The saragosa doesn't habe the drag to match the reel but yet the twin power has all the drag but less sealing.
Great work and thorough reviews on the reels. All your reel reviews/opinions are worthy. I wanted, waited and gave trying to get TwinPower salt water awhile back (China flu) but unavailable. So, on account of your & Alan Hawk's reviews, I happily got the new 6k & 10k SW Gosa's with $ left over for line. Have not hooked up yet on SW10000PG but did get a keeper Snook and pulled a huge Moray (NPI, lol) eel out of a bridge fender with the 6k on a Shimano Trevala jigging rod. Picked up a Grappler 7 1/2' MHMF rod for the 10,000 from Strike Zone Jax.
So now you must want to review my new Certate 14k
I usually buy all my Shimano and Daiwa reels in Japan. Do you know any where in the U.S that will service JDM reels?
Can you do a review of the daiwa Certate?
Ryan I really enjoyed your tear down and comparison to Stella/Gosa.
With Tackle Advisor gone and Alan Hawk doing less reviews, you’re keeping the tackle junky in me satisfied!
Next we need a 21 Certate SW review v 20 Saltiga. 👍🏼
Thank you! It's an honor to be mentioned next to two people who really inspired me in this industry!
@@RyanMorie No worries mate.Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
What happened to Tackle Advisor?
Just stopped making vids.
@@77jaycube69 he got a job at a major tackle company.
I have a Twin Power XD and I use it for Striper and Bluefish in the bay as well as bass in ponds , should I not be? I wish I had the SW now lol
Hi mate, curious as to what your opinion on changing out the bearings that see salt water to ceramic would be, would that have any benefits? Cheers.
get a certate bud
How does this new twin power compare to the 2015 model? What's the difference
Ryan, thanks for another reel review! I just stick with the diawa bg, but it’s cool to see you review the high end stuff.
That's still the best Saltwater Spinner in that $100 price range (IMO)
These shimanos are waaaay lighter than BG,helps with shore jigging
Para quem tem um daiwa bg 8000, você acha que é muita vantagem conseguir uma saragoça 20000 ou 25000?
What do you think of the TP XD 21?
Ryan is there a starter maintenance kit you can suggest or what specific tools would we need to service our reels?
It depends on what you're taking apart. I can tell you this much, smaller screw drivers will probably be a must but mostly your common wrenches and screw drivers will take care of most of your needs.
Yo Ish. Can you remove the bail arm trip for TPS??!
lots of wind knots with twin power, sold for the new saltiga
Hi Ryan
I need an expert opinion on a problem I'm having with my Twin Power 8000 PG.
While checking the drag of the Twin Power SW-C 8000 pg I just bought, I realized that it was still a bit tight even when the drag was loosened to the end.
Then I compared it with the 10000 pg I have. By the way, I know that the 10000 pg has a slightly different drag system.
I loosened the drag of both of them to the end, checked the drag tension by turning the spool manually. 8000 pg was quite tight compared to 10000.
I then measured the minimum drag values of both reels with a precision balance.
8000 PG’s spool stopped clicking at 900 grams. In other words, in the lightest drag (when the spool is close to coming off), a weight less than 900 grams cannot move (rotate) the spool. The minimum drag is 900 grams (approx. 2 lbs)
In the 10000 PG, this value is 380 grams (approx. 0.85 lb). There is a difference of about half a kilogram.
Is it normal that there is such a difference? Is it normal for the 8000 PG's loosest (lightest) drag to be so tight? So is this a situation specific to 8000 PG?
I would be very grateful if you could share your opinions.
Thanks in advance 😊
mọi người nghĩ sao về Penn authority vs twinpower .What do you guys think about Penn authority vs twinpower
Bellissimo il Twin Power SW-C, reel al TOP ! credo che abbia lo stesso driver gear dello Stella SW-C
Make a salt x 6000 video I need a video on putting the bail back on
sorry for the inconvenience I have a twin power sw c 8000hg I wanted to buy a reel stand but what size should I look for... for sale I only see specified for max 5000 reels

I think I would go with the Diwia
Are the parts and bearings easy to obtain to repair these reels, or do you have to take them in for repairs?
The 10000 and 14000 I have seen have large egg shaped handle, others may also not sure
Used to buy nothing but Shimano but I'm over there thin bails catching the line so went to Daiwa and haven't looked back
what is the difference in body from a twinpower sw 4000 to a 5000.
How about doing a review on the okuma makaira 10000
Thanks for the thorough review. I'm debating upgrading from my Daiwa Saltist and Daiwa BGWQ to a Twin Power. I'm just getting tired of sending the Daiwas in every season because they get grindy. Mainly tuna fishing on a boat that tends to spray & splash. Need high drag, durability and a good seal, hopefully without breaking the bank.
The Twinpower is a definite upgrade from both of those reels. And service is easier with Shimano than with Daiwa USA.
Get a certate sw or a saltiga bro
@@Brian_Vo No. Its time for him to switch from the dark side😝
Penn slammer or authority they full metal with stainless steel gears
And you don't have to worry about them becoming rough and clunky over time because that's how they are out of the box haha
Hey ryan, can you put together a video with all the tools, grease, and whatever other miscellaneous items you might need to take apart a reel?
I already have! Check it out here: czcams.com/video/4RNEW8YGK98/video.html&ab_channel=RyanMorie
Saragosa is my choice , the price is better fit . Your review is awesome TY so much for sharing.
I like my gosa 14k but I'm in love with my twin power! Sooo smooth powerful never disappointed using it well worth the extra money to me. It's like comparing a Toyota to a Ferrari. Great breakdown looking forward to future videos. Fyi I've never owned a Stella and have no plans to either.
Do a Review on the DAIWA CERTATE...
25:23 - 93 - 87 =6 = 87 - 81 . 15TP should have been listed at a value of 86 if putting whole numbers down for score cards which would have placed it closer to the gosa instead of being equidistant to both the stella and gosa
You are correct Sir
the Twin power reels are ok, I just make the jump to the Stella, and your done!
Love to see a comparison of Shimano and Diawa reels . Same or si.iliar price points.
Definitely some in the works right now!
I agree the 2013 Stella was a beast and I'm usually a Saltiga guy. Would also prefer to the 2019. As of 2020 though, the Saltiga is still the best spin reel ever made imo
Great job 👌.. nice video 😍👍
most of the video shot from top angle camera is not clear (out of focus)..
Daiwa fan boy you ranked Shimano Stella sw 19 almost like twin power but where is the test that proves it?
Certate SW VS Shimano TwinPower SW next pleaaasseeeee! I will forever be grateful! Keep up these teardowns vids coming!
The sw Is a better and cheaper reel. Certate sw is awesome.
@@kamadowoah4584 which one?
Problem with the Certate is when you see the cost you might as well just put out a few extra dollars for the Saltiga...If you can.☺️
@@eves08109 for bigger sizes definitely. I need a 6000 size reel. Went with certate sw and happy so far. its lighter, more line capacity, better drag, smoother, starts up quicker. Only i like about the twinpower, clicks when you close bail and cast tad further but tbh you can never go wrong with either and its all preferences.
I was actually considering buying the Certate also and for smaller sizes that was a good choice. I was considering the biggest reel and since the Saltiga 20000H holds a generous amount of 80lb, plus with that drag I just have to get it!..I also have 5 BGs and love em!
stradic sw review please bro
Just bought a 6000 new on ebay for a little under 500 im happy
Will the twin power main gear fit the saragosa
and what is good rod for fisshing tuna bluefin 100lb with popping and cheap cost?
How do you feel about power gear vs high gear?
Bought a new TP SW 14k today. $546.00 shipped.
hi bro , i want to buy this reel for fishing tuna blue fin 100lb is it good or no ?
I sold my Saragossa of using it two times, not a good reel. Choice for replacement was a certate or twin power, I bought the certate, excellent reel. I love my Stella 5000 but I don’t use it as much as the certate due to weight imbalance with my rods. Rods are often too light these days which sucks
Use Penn carnage rods they ain’t light
I have the 14k PG and is a cracking reel..shame shimano dont make s 20k version..probsbly will go woth a 13 Stella rather than 19 in the 20l version
The handle bearings are most susceptible to failure it doesn’t matter if it’s the bearings daiwa or shimano! a bush will always win for durability against maintenance negligence!
Which has the better casting distance, the stella or the daiwa , and which is the better of the two brands of reels? I have all shimanos and one daiwa. Im still trying to decide if I want to purchase the Tp sw or not for my 12’ surf fishing rod.
Stella has a better spool lip design for longer casting.
The twin power is perfect for what you are wanting to do, I'd probably go the 5000 you can run the 6000 spool for extra line capacity if you ever wanted or a heavier line depending on where you were fishing 👍🎣
@@ihatethegestapo7649
Thanks a lot my friend! I’ll do just that. Tight lines! 🤙🏿
Review on daiwa certate please please
Hasn't the saragosa 8000 and up got a alluminium rotor. And where would you rank the 2008 stella
Am looking to get twin power 14000 . What size is the best?
Review the Penn Authority
Would you compare this reel in size with Penn slammer 4500
6000 is the closest in the Twinpower SW.
But the Penn 4500 is really closer to a 5000 in a Shimano (like a Saragossa SW 5000)
The only real benefit you get with the Stella over the rest is the platinum service plan.
would u buy a new 14000 saragosa or a used 15 twin power for the same price?
New Saragosa but that’s just me
Review of Okuma ceymar HD 5000 pleaseeee
Ryan, could you please do a video or help me with some guidance on a land based spinning rod for sharks? Big sharks. I have some 10500 and 30k sized reels picked. I just can't figure out a dang rod that can cast big baits and weights, plus fight a monster from the beach. Spinning for sharks is a dream of mine
Short answer: I’m not exactly sure what you mean by big sharks, but if you are talking about 100+ pound black tips and spinner sharks pushing 6+ feet, the 12ft heavy battalion rods penn makes or the 12ft heavy action ugly stick rods are both great for catching sharks via casting from land with spinning reels and won’t totally kill the bank. If you are looking for an even cheaper option the squadron and prevail lines of Penn surf rods are good but the quality is reflected in the price…
Also I’m not sure how much you already know about shark fishing but if you are interested in learning more, I recently posted 2 videos where I literally explain every single piece of gear and tackle I use to catch sharks on the beach. I have caught 78 large sharks in the past year and even caught 6+ in one day. I have things pretty dialed in lol, I am happy to answer any questions you have. Good luck🤙🏻
What size twinpower is that?
Wonder how the Penn authority compares to this
what is the difference in body from a twinpower sw 6000 to a 5000. I see that there is only a 10 gram difference in weight and I put it down to the larger coil (they are not "C" bodies). the difference is internal in the gears? The 6000 has more drag than the 5000. what is the actual difference?
Spool
Yep i stick with my Saragossa 5000👌
hallo i have a question regarding twin power sw 4000 size. what is the difference between 2015 model to 2021 model?
Also are all 2021 models comes with c compact body?
2021 model has a C at the end meaning it's the third generation of Twinpower SW. The Twinpower SW 4000XGC has the body and gear of the 5000 and 6000 with a more compact 4000 spool. So the gear is bigger than the freshwater regular Twinpower 4000 or a Stradic 4000
@@aquaholiklee thanks for the info. So will a 5000 or 6000 spool will fit the 4000 body?
@@shimiavivi it will be oversized. The rotor is different on the 4000. The gear and main body is the same. Buy the 4000 if you need the same winding power but at a reduced weight. By the 6000 for more line capacity. The more compact rotor and maybe different handle on the 4000 is the reason for the weight saving.
May i ask what size is that reel?
What is the deal with the twinpower name?
I see many people selling used Twin Power's on ebay, and the savings are not significant enough for me to buy just now. What could go wrong! Parts no longer available? 5 year old water droplets inside? Old technology! Is it ever advisable to buy a used Twin Power? I admit to being tempted.
Totally agree with the new twinpower. A simply amazing reel. No idea where you got your rating on your 2013 Stella from though. That was easily the worst Stella made to date. It is absolutely horrible. Working in the tackle industry and having fished multiple of all these reels. No reel breaks more than the 2013 stella. Only worse reel is the 2015 Saltiga.
I bought a Twinpower a year ago but yet too use it because I don’t wanna get a scratch on it so bought a Saragosa and a Spheros to use instead😂
🤣hahaha
Lmbo!!! That’s a good one! I have several Shimano, but deciding to get a Tp, but not sure yet. Never purchased a reel at that price point, but have purchased the Gosa 8k.
Jeff, you’re like my grandma who leaves the plastic wrap on the lampshades and has plastic runners on the carpet so the carpet won’t wear out. Don’t be afraid man, TP is a well made tool. Now go catch an amberjack or tuna with that TP.😂
