  • The Gerber Quadrant has served me well, but it is time to get more capability into my pocket. After months of shopping around, I landed on the Hiker from Victorinox.

    I have been carrying the Climber for years now. Within days of putting it in my pocket I realized a good capable pair of scissors was something I never knew I needed but now can’t live without. When I go fishing I will usually swap it out for the huntsman so I still have the scissors but also a saw to remove small limbs from a creek bank hole if needed. I find the four layer a bit too bulky to carry around every day though.

      Nice! My hiker is with me every day. I keep looking at the super tinker for myself, but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

    If you ever need scissors, the Fieldmaster is a nice upgrade.

    One of the very best for sure, my other favorite being the Farmer. Enough tools to deal with 95% of the mundane EDC stuff, the second blade and saw help offset the basic blade steel and make it a highly capable bushcraft/ survival tool. The phillips on the back is infinetly more comfortable when carving than a corkscrew. Last night I used it at work, this morning it came hunting, and tonight I'll likely use it for something when I take the kids to hocky.

      It’s definitely made me a big fan of Victorinox and high quality stainless steel blades

    I carry this little knife called the Kizer Squidward I got on Amazon for half off ($35) and it’s been the best little edc I’ve ever had.

      I’ve been seeing some pretty great Victorinox whittling videos. Man, I love my Hiker! It’s such a great knife.

    Is the blade steel any good?

    • @hookandblade
      @hookandblade  Před 8 měsíci

      The blade of the Victorinox is a high carbon steel that is easy to sharpen, holds an edge, and has a mirror-like shine due to high amounts of chromium (based on my research). I’ve been using mine for a few months now opening packages and cutting down boxes, and I have not had to sharpen it yet. It is a pretty thin blade which allows it to slice easily. It seems to be holding up very well for light duty every day tasks.

    Your not a knife person are you. The first knife you opens was a flipper and you opened it with your fingers lol

      You're not familiar with GERBER, are you? That is not something you can do with a Gerber knife; it's not good. The identical one I have only opens to about halfway at best.
