    This video is the 1st episode of a totally new series of videos entitled "Spontaneous Cooking for the Soul" which is geared towards a more unplanned cooking.
    We came up with this series which we will publish in addition to our usual videos on CZcams and this series will be more about recipes that we cook on a daily basis. So, when we can and when spontaneity kicks in, we will just grab our camera and start filming with a more natural approach and without all the meticulous planning, cuts and other editings. This way you’ll not only be able to enjoy more videos from us, since some of you have requested more frequent uploads, but at the same time you will get a better sense of what goes on in our kitchen. :)

    Thank you so much for this recipe, I have tried numerous recipes in the past but they never turned out good. Followed this recipe by the book, used maple syrup instead of sugar, and they turned out super soft and tasty 😋

      This first episode is a little warm up. So, we're still working our way through it. Thank you for giving me some good feedback and the encouragement. I've kinda always perceived spontaneous as being that relaxed state where everything just happens without any particular strain. I can't help the calm and chill though, I'll have to try hard to change that! Being me is just easier. lol!

    • @Thevietvegan
      @Thevietvegan Před 7 lety +1

      No don't change a thing!! That's why I love your channel :) I just thought it was funny because my version of spontaneous is me throwing a bunch of things together and hoping things work and for you, it's still almost a methodical and relaxing time. I dig it.

    Love the concept of this new video series. It's always nice to see how people cook at home on a regular basis, along with the more formal recipe videos. I've never had idli, I will have to look into making this sometime soon.

      Thank you Joseph. Yes, very often we happen to be preparing a nice recipe in the spur of the moment and we thought: why not just grab the camera and film this too without the usual planning, set up and editing that goes along with the formal ones, there is a element of closeness to this that we find interesting. Do let us know how it goes if you try the Idlis. It is really hard not to like them. :)

    Oooh, Teenuja and Kevin, raw and uncut! Ha-ha! I have never successfully made idlis, and I could eat a mixing bowl full in one sitting, so it's just as well. These Mauritian ones are intriguing and straightforward . . . could I develop a gluttonous zest for them, as well?
    TFP : )

    • @Veganlovlie
      @Veganlovlie  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Tamara, these instant idlis are much easier to make. The trick is to get the right batter consistency, not too runny and not too thick (a bit like a pancake batter), and also the right length of time to steam them. One minute longer and they lose they fluffiness though they'd still taste delicious. This first video is a little warm up. We're excited about this series. More coming up, so, let's see how it goes.

    i live in france and i have a great pleasure discovering your channel as you use a large amount of food, vegetable and some time GF . You allow me to discover another way to cook cassava,banana, and much more food that i used to cook in africa or that i eat when i go to india. i've learned in in india how to prepare rice idly but i never succeed to have this fluffy texture. and the way how you do it is very quick with no fermentation and i'll enjoy if i could have a GF version to do it? would you have an advice to replace semolina? i would try and let you know. thank you again for all these recipes and continuous in this way!

    • @Veganlovlie
      @Veganlovlie  Před 7 lety

      Hi Marlyse, thank you for your comment. You can easily replace the semolina flour with rice flour or brown rice flour (same amount as indicated in the printable recipe on the website - veganlovlie.com/mauritian-sweet-idli-recipe-vegan/). Millet flour and chickpea flour will also work but they will each have a different taste. I find brown rice flour to be closer in taste and texture. I hope this helps. 🙂💜

      I bought it at Marché Samar which is a small Indian grocery store close to my place. (1485 Boul. Provencher, Brossard. Here's the map - goo.gl/maps/MN5hKHbfxnm ). It was about $15 if I remember correctly (just the stand/mould, not the pot). You may want to call them up beforehand if you decide to go there just to check if they have more in stock.
