The 2020 Range Rover SVR is unique in the space: it is the only off-road ready SUV on the market today that is actually, objectively fun and capable in a canyon. The Jeep Trackhawk is fun, but doesn't do off-road. The G63 does off-road, but is terrible on tarmac. The Range Rover SVR has enough performance chops to really hustle a canyon, and then the suspension and driveline tech to do some pretty impressive off-road work.
Land Rover provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
doing some offroading was definitely a nice touch
This car makes no sense at all, and I want it so badly
Dutch Von Van for the same price wait for the 2020 rs6 wagon
Frank Latin the problem with the RS6 is that it’s hardly a discreet monster anymore. It’s too shouty and a bit of a douche-mobile. But that’s my personal opinion. This SVR is shouty too but I think less people expect it to be that fast, whereas you’d be disappointed if the RS6 wasn’t as fast as it now looks.
Dutch Von Van SUV’s are more for non car people like soccer moms but that’s just my opinion
@@franklatin2411 or people who simply want a sporty vehicle with convenience and ground clearance
Frank Latin that’s the nice thing about opinions :) We all have one. For me personally I love the fact that the RR makes a type of noice it shouldn’t be making. Similar to the noice the first RS6 V8 bi-turbo made back in the days. The combination of sound, performance and looks didn’t add up for people and that’s the beauty of it. I think the Audi is a brilliant car and would love to drive it, but they lost the Q-car effect with those looks.
Nice that they are building the electrical faults in from new rather than waiting 4 years
No it is a bad thing. This is a press demonstrator, the l405 has been out for 7 years and the infotainment for 2, if you are giving a car for review and no one cleared the faults by preverbially plugging it in then this is their own mistake.
@@fraserwright9482 big fucking deal.
@Douglas Hamner "Mechanically I would even say Rover and Jag is now more reliable than BMW." False, I would road trip a brand new BMW across the United States, I would never road trip a brand new Rover, anywhere, ever. English cars are so pretty, but they lack the engineering execution to make them good choices within the bounds of warranty, it's really a shame because I love the way English cars look.
@@collinhopper7542 according to many recent surveys i would avoid Audi & especially BMW , here's yet another reliability statistic were they are last by some margin. europe.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2018-uk-vehicle-dependability-study europe.jdpower.com/press-releases/2019-uk-vehicle-dependability-study
BMW's, their headquarters, dealerships, salesman and management are all horrible. Worst experience ever and this is coming from a Land Rover customer since 2006 and a Mercedes Benz customer since 2001. BMW is horrible
"relax and finish my coffee on the top of this mountain"
actually means "smoke a cannon a the top of this mountain" haha
Laberge no way farah does weed, impossible to imagine.
GKY yeah he does he’s mentioned it on multiple occasions. He’s a typical California bro lol how could you be surprised

The infotainment system is slow at times but you have to take it with a pinch of salt, I work for JLR and can happily say that the new evoque and discovery sport both have the most recent systems and aren’t nearly as slow. The RR sport was given its facelift before this new system was available so it’s technically year old tech now
Tom Riley how bout da velar ? Same as this or newer?
@@RealForexFunded I think the Velar uses the same screen as this as it was the first car with the new upgraded screens (correct me Tom if I'm wrong)
Douglas Hamner I’m a JLR technician myself, whereabout are you from?
Douglas Hamner oh wow, I’m from Yorkshire in England. Seems odd to me that for you JLR vehicles are all imports :)
This was a great video Matt, I like how fluently you communicated the car's strengths.
You can tell by the car in the title who’s review it’s gonna be haha
Love a good honest review. No BS. Keep them coming Matt
As far as hearing your own voice, go into settings and turn off rear seat conversation microphone. It was intended to assist you in hearing people speak from the back seat. However it can amplify ambient sound as well. My RR dealer wasn’t aware it existed.
Well said Matt, and may I add that its refreshing to hear an automotive journalist being tough, fair and frank about the Range Rover. I've been a LR owner for nearly 20 years starting with the Range Rover Classic, and in all this time they have really struggled with the same problem. Combining rugged a heavy duty 4x4, with quality, performance and technology, all while being reliable. But they are so close with these new vehicles there's really no excuse to struggle with the tech like infotainment. There must be something in the culture of the company that says at some point, "that's good enough." Well I say, no it's not good enough because you're developing the Range Rover.
99.44% of people will lease not buy this vehicle, which is a very good idea.
Rumblestrip.NET from what I hear the mechanics purposely don’t fix the car properly mainly because of that reason they never expect people to actually personally own one
It's like that with all high end cars.
@RJ mi nah there's alot of rovers with alot of miles.
Most people call them unreliable becethry don't want to fix a car that cost 120k+. Because whrm they are 7 years old those fixes cost alot.
Think of the air suspension. It goes on all cars that have them from Mercedes to lexus and it cost thousands to fix.
Leasing is good for your credit as long as you can keep up with the payments on time 🤙🏽.
Ashish Patel air suspension is a major problem. 2 of my peoples have them on their Jeep Cherokee & their jeeps are in the shop every couple of months. Their not even off roading or anything like that. Just daily driving in NYC & across a few states.
Matt, I don't think I've ever used 'tech' in a car. Not sat-nav or blu-tooth or any of that crap. I listen to the radio and that's about it. I do however like to drive fast and go offroad a lot. Looks a pretty good package to me.
Get a Jeep SRT - much simpler.
I always use the electronics but I lease my cars
Wonderful growl from that supercharged V8 👍
Thank you for your honest reviews and your cat photos.
Something about your voice thats really nice for these reviews! Great job as always!
I keep telling myself I will always forever own a sport sedan of some sort and never give in to the SUV market, but damn it! this is one I have to admit I wouldn't mind owning!
That blue is gorgeous. I'd love that on an F Pace!
Dude can drive😁 nice review
Huge shout out to you for a real ass review and not sugar coating anything
This is a very good review thank you.
Good point about the screens!
You’re absolutely right about the technology. Land Rover needs to get it together. They could learn a lot from the American cars. Wish they would have remote start, for starters.
Matt Farah issss backkkkkk so happy
1st one of your vids i have seen 👍 (from England)
Thank you for reviewing this car, shits sick
& that's sick how Jamal Hameedi is at SVR now. Watch Jay Leno's GT500 review , this guy is for real
this or the glc 63 amg s coupe or suv?
Very clever intro!
Love it!
Got the budget for a sport but want an SVR!!!
Wait or get a used one
I wish Velar SVA will be available soon to North American market so that you could compare it with Fpace svr.... lol
I currently have a 2016 RRS SVR. Got it back in 2020. Still has no problems
Was about to get a 2019 SVR at that time but Ill have no play money. And between 2014-2017 SVR vs 2018 to 2022 SVR. It was the older SVR that I wanted due to the more aggressive exhaust note
I gave this video a like because of the kittens selling Keeps. Finn & Niki are great!
I know this is a ridiculous question and comparison - but if you had only one car for 5-7 years, would you prefer this RRS SVR or the near mint E39 M5 you recently drove?
Keeps? LOL I lost my hair at 20 and never looked back. You can keep Keeps.
When will they come out with a new body kit?
Great honest review. Jaguar and Landrover need to Up their tech game.
Wow i love this car 😍
Captain pedantic here... the RRS SVR (like all Land Rover models besides the Velar) has full-time 4WD. Not AWD.
That's a beast. I know a friend who would die for this beast
i agree with what you said at the end regarding the touch screen response. tesla, uconnect & the new bmw idrive are the best in the biz imo
I would say BMW is the leader in terms of how easy it is to use. There is no lag at all in things like the sports gauges where Mercedes has had issues with. Tesla is definitely up there with best touch screens (just don't expect much using a new firmware on an older model as they are very laggy).
I'm in a dead bar (3 people) watching this with CC on. You're driving a "50100 pound" suv with "all-seasoning tires."
nice thought . always partial to blue .. rovers still the big suv for them that cares not for parking at a normal mall spot or cities over 4 mil. -kuds to niki and finn
I work at Jaguar Land Rover Solihull England where we build these puppies for you.
Yes I’ve done many a cold start ups in the cold dull U.K. That magnificent 5.0 V8 beast never fails to impress on start up. That ROAR 😍.
Yes they might not be the most reliable, but for people who can afford them still keep buying them.
THE definitive luxury SUV brand. They have presence and status symbol. The design - Range Rover or Range Rover Sport instantly recognisable the world over.
Like Matt Watson said on Carwow “there is something special about driving a Range Rover.” “You have done well in life.”
I feel like the next stage of JLR infotainment they will definitely upgrade the systems. However if you are looking to get a rover without the bottom screen but you want apple car play or the larger main screen then just get a 2017 model and probably there will be a lot more benefit than buying a new one. Some dealership still have them new sitting on the lots. Also the touch response is somewhat better in the non shiny screens of JLR.
greatvid
Make the cats your display image for the video
Do you ever take them to the drive-thru or something like Sonic?
dude that trail looks dodgy af, definitely not for guys scared of hights :D
Seriously. Getting anxious just watching. Honestly, probably not as bad if you are the one driving, though.
Yeah not a lot of shoulder or room for error there
God damn the lag on those controls is horrendous. That alone is unforgivable for being a six figure car.
I just want someone to buy this, and do some actual offroading in it.
Also, please introduce me to the people who actually buy this, and use the low traction launch setting.
QuickTrick Alignment Products I do in a 2017 RR Sport Supercharged. I have a lot of pictures. Check Instagram @adammanesh

The problems raised with the infotainment system do not sound like problems with the screen they choose to use. They are software issues with maybe some hardware deficiencies due to processing power of the hardware running the software. But mainly they sound like software issues.
I dont understand why they build a beautiful luxury suv with so many issues ...you will love and hate at the same time...they have to put reliability in there trucks for ones
feels like the reasonable rational alternative is the cayenne as always
AR Stelvio, TrackHawk.
Yes, but everyone and their mum has a Cayenne.
But should you really be driving gravel on low pro 4plys? What is the spare? A donut?
I remember watching this channel before half the video was them trying to sell me crap. Ah, the good old days.
oh shut the fuck up it's youtube just forward through it but don't complain
I'll trade you my cats for yours...
How's this different from the F-Pace you just reviewed 3:41 Next year F-Pace gets this engine/tune...
One thing to consider about consumer (i.e. telephone or pad) touchscreens is are they gonna work when the screen is 140°F from being in the sun? Because cellphone screens routinely won't work much above 100°F
Get a sun shade cheap ass
How do I get to your Alternate Reality US where people pull over on two-lanes and let faster cars pass?
Seems like Keeps is working real well for you
Cant wait to get out of mine!
Scott Wallace why?
Facelift doesn’t sound great, not that quick and there everywhere!
Scott Wallace would you instead choose a Vogue supercharged over it? Looking to get into an SUV in this price range unsure of what to get...
@@ballinfrk07 Tried a vogue, depends what your after for me there all too heavy and don't handle well i'd get the 2020 RS6, same space inside but will drive a lot better.
Scott Wallace yes but no same tier car... a bit lower level
Is it the tires making that whirring sound? It almost sounds like the RR has bad wheel bearings.
This particular road has noisier tarmac, and these are all-season tires.
Nice that the car made it through the whole video without having to be towed. Making progress!
boring comment and completely unfounded. MORON SPOTTED!
Matt any plans of switching to 4k videos?
Maybe eventually; it's a lot of data storage, really slows down the editing process, costs a lot more money, and, for most people, 4k streaming is still somewhat limited.
Mercedes E63AMG Wagon!
What happens if some one comes the other way on that trail?
someone's gotta reverse to a turnout.
I absolutely agree, the same problem is found in Smart TVs today, the software interface is laggy trash.
Having worked at a land rover dealer for 5 months, I have been shocked at their reliability of some of their electronics. The touch screens were a bitch at times, as was the Puck shifter. that seemed to get stuck and you couldn't change gears. Nice cars, especially the SVRs, but their faulty equipment made me question if I'd ever own one.
Well I have a $115,000 cadillac and the touch screen is screwed up so it's not only RR that has issues 😊
Really surprising about that touch screen mechanism, that vehicle here in Canada is ~150k with comparable options, or more, as I only seen/heard a few mentioned. And for that kind of money, something like having cooled seats turn themselves on/off is completely unacceptable. The motorized screen issue is bad as well, but not near as bad as the seat issue.
Makes my purchasing choice of the new 1500 Ram Limited not seem so bad, considering its about half as much with an outstanding interior.
New rams are nice my friend just got a heavy duty
3:02 someone had a bad day right there.
Why? Just a car parked on the side of the road.
Trying to imagine what an echo inside a car feels like. Usually in car acoustics are quite the oppsosite of that. Maybe it was on purpose to make it feel extra spacious...
Yeah it definitely sounds unusual. My guess at the culprits would be a spacious interior + lots of glass (big windows and sunroof, along with the screens).
What would be your choice in between this SVR, the G63, and the Trackhawk?
SVR...But if your are those vloggers, you must buy the G63... Trackhawk... Meh...
To lease: SVR. To buy: Trackhawk
Will Buy It
Not even Germans buy bmw. The engine will eat itself and you need to change the battery every oil change. Just stay away.
My 08 XKR tech was exactly the same...
Cliche and sad?
My dream car
Great place to smoke a joint no one would ever find u there lmao
A LEASE ONLY special if I ever saw one...
It seems like LandRover has always had issues with either the electrical system or suspension.
Lol i did trails like that in a Suzuki Swift (everything stock) lol nonetheless the Range Rover is a VERY Offroad capable vehicle. Defender, Range Rover and Toyota Landcruiser = 3 Offroad Kings
NOT so accurate Matt....
The cooled seats shut off after a certain time or if you were to put it in Eco/Mode. If you go into settings you can adjust the screen in any position at any time. The technology is pretty good, I use it daily and it works as it should over 90% of the time. However it could be better. One thing you should also point out which I think is dangerous, is how glitchy the back up camera is will backing up at a descent speed.... it’s awful! You can actually hit something before the camera shows you are near it...Good video as always though.
Thanks for the tips - what youre describing with the cooled seats is *not* the error I was talking about. I would activate cooled seats as soon as I got in the car, and literally 30 seconds later, they would turn off and not turn back on for several minutes. Had nothing to do with any modes or anything else.
I didn't change any settings with the movement of the screen. If I don't change anything, it should behave exactly the same way every time, which, as you saw in the video, it obviously did not.
im manifesting that i will buy this car in 6 months
that's a nice explorer ST
That's why I thought it looked familiar! Good call!👍
The explorer ST wish it looked and sounded this good
12:10 poor SVR felt so embarrassed before camera😓
Matt, I heard the echo IMMEDIATELY. One of my friends has a Range Rover that does the same thing.
That was by far one of the strangest experiences about this car. I have never had that happen in every other car.
@@TheSmokingTire That's the Conversation Assist it's a JLR staple.
TheSmokingTire I had a 2016 Range Rover sport supercharged for two years, and I never had that echo.
I'd still have your 911 safari over this
Looks like a Ford explorer, it will also depreciate like one !
Pooping
Shut it.
Apart from the radio I can honestly say I've never used any of the tech in any car I've ever driven. It's nearly always shite.
Nice ☝️
Interior wise
Apple CarPlay or Android Auto

Range Rover sport autobiography 5:0 v8
My car cost £93,000 with upgrades such as full panoramic sunroof. A piece of rubber jammed in the roof whilst operating so I took the car to a main Land Rover dealership (Stockton-on-Tees) for a repair and was told the entire panoramic sunroof would have to be replaced ? I said ok the car has a 3yr warranty. Guess what ? They said the roof was not covered by warranty even tho this was a factory fitted option ? I contacted the ceo of Land Rover but received no help at all so I sold the car a week later & will not buy another. Warranty not worth the paper if is written on so be warned people.
In my 91 Range Rover LWB I'd could almost flip it taking 45mph turns at a bad angle.
So I know you guys don't have to worry about road condition out west, but what the fuck is with Matt going 88mph? lol
best sounding car on the road.
Damn I haven't seen a 1T in a min wit u...sweet
You should do a one take on my car
Product from Range Rover? The brand is Land Rover smh
I like your voice
Almost crushed the camera 11:42
Americans don’t realise the discovery is the off-road go anywhere car with glove controls etc the Range Rover sport (especially the SVR) is for rich city people - 0.1% of owners will ever take it off-road.
Call me "carzy"... I prefer the Trackhawk over this. Character , value, and American attitude--and way more dependable lol
