The Airgun Show - dusk rabbit and squirrel hunt, PLUS the Walther LG400 Field Target…

  • Dusk can be a great time for targeting skittish rabbits. Mat Manning sets up for a pony paddock ambush in the fading light and manages to shoot rabbits and some bonus grey squirrels while capturing the action with scope-cam footage.
We’ve got something very different in the kit section this week, as Mat casts an eye over the wooden stock version of the Walther LG400 Field Target. This super-accurate full-power competition rifle is packed with features and shapes up as a serious contender for competitive field target and HFT shooting.

Nice haircut and excellent shooting. High quality scopes really show what they are made of when the light levels drop. Superior coatings, high refractive index glass and better design give the scope superior contrast and less light lost through better transmission. As for the cross hair reticle, I agree with you. A normal .177 sub 12 UK air gun zeroed at 30 yards has a drop of 1" @ 40 yards, 2" @ 45 yards and just under 3" at 50 yards. Given the known size of the legal UK airgun quarry, it is not so difficult to aim the gun correctly. I have come to prefer much simpler reticles in my old age. I find them less distracting.
