  • The start procedure for the Turbo Commander 690B, followed by taxi and takeoff.
    My apologies for some pretty poor word usage during this video. Words have meaning, especially in aviation and there is no real excuse for this. There is only one rudder on the 690B, not sure why I kept using the plural.

One evening in 66 he took me & my Sister to the plant where there the Jet Commander Arthur Godfrey flew around the world setting a record, was parked. Since 2008 there are only four hull lost accident involving mu2..thanks to type certificate introduce by FAA specially for MU2. Tube commander in the other had have a design flaw which if we are not careful can bite you like crack in the wing spar. But in all, both planes are great planes, I just wish that turbo commander have an after sales service like MU2 as it is known if commander get into the shop, it require more time and effort just to find the spare parts it needed.. oh both have the same engines btw, which is better than PT6.

      There's no mixture on a turbine. The fuel is either off or on and the systems deal with metering. Mixture controls are a thing of the 1930s and it is ridiculous that aircraft built after the 60s still have them. Even more ridiculous that aircraft are being built with mixture controls today. The only place I have seen a mixture control outside of aircraft was on 1940s Matchless and BSA motorcycles.

I am not as concerned about the view outside as I am with the flight and engine instruments. Videos by Steve Kinevo and P1D have set a pretty high standard for picture quality to the point where I expect it in similar videos like yours. You fly an interesting aircraft, but I really would appreciate better quality video. Your dialogue is good. Thank you! Patrick from Albuquerque

      The Turbo Commander will makes your ears bleed, I think it ranks as one of the loudest turbo props out there.

    Seat slides back on it's own wasn't that a cause of a few Cessna crashes pilot would take off and the seat would go sliding all the way back

    • @tonytheflyer
      @tonytheflyer Před 5 lety +1

      Yep, there was a seat slide accident right at my home airport in a older 182 a few years back (fortunately without injury but the plane was badly damaged). I had the same issue on my R182, fortunately it has a secondary stop. I had the rails replaced and the seat locking mechanism adjusted, now it snaps right in and no more slippage. I'd have that fixed at earliest opportunity.

    What about the rest of the after start checks? HP limiter, Overspeed Governor and NTS test valve functional check? In the 1000+ hours I flew the 690/840/980/1000 Commander I never left the ground without doing all 3 before I took the props off of the locks.
    I loved flying the Commanders even though they had a few bad habits... the ground handling being the worst. I think they designed the nose wheel steering at 3:30 on a Friday afternoon and just said screw it... it’s good enough! Also sucked if you missed the locks on shutdown... if you did then the beer was on you that night!

      The one you can afford to operate and maintain without being homeless and hungry. Me, I couldn't afford any of them unless using them for commercial purposes. I can only afford my Cessna 310 and still keep my house and girlfriend. The gf likes the plane though. But it seems she likes the pilot more, lucky for me. I'm just grateful that I get to do the things that make me happy in life. Not everyone is so lucky.
