NAHA, OKINAWA - Okinawa is an island in southern Japan, yet its culture and food are vastly different from what you typically think of as Japanese. Today Iâm hanging out with my friend Yuji-San and weâre going to take you on an ultimate Okinawan food tour!
Thanks to my friend Yuji-San for taking me about Naha: / hotel_manager_jt
1. MEGURO miso soup stand: goo.gl/maps/rGGLu9RtcAL23eHo9 - We started off for the greatest ever rice ball and craft miso soup. It was a totally new experience and appreciation for miso soup.
Total price - 2,800 JPY
2. Tofu Soba at Takaesu Soba: goo.gl/maps/mD4vzTqqHxaJdCSL8 - In Okinawa, soba is totally different from the buckwheat noodles you get in other parts of Japan. Okinawan soba is something nearly everyone eats for lunch and itâs more similar to ramen with wheat noodles and pork ribs. We went to this special place for their tofu soba.
Total price - 2,770 JPY
3. Ice snow cones at Fujiya Tomari: goo.gl/maps/Q8SF83Vjq6FoUUwH9 - Another thing you have to try in Okinawa is their snow cones.
Price - 1,350 JPY for everything
4. Okinawan Izakaya at Urizun: goo.gl/maps/iwbuKjfUUG1yxNNK7 - In order get a taste of traditional Okinawan food, we went to Urizun. Again, dishes were totally different from anywhere else Iâve bee.
Price - 9,353 JPY for everything
5. Goat Sashimi at Nijuban (20th) Goat Restaurant: goo.gl/maps/UwNcUyueA6eVYKBw7 - Finally there was one meal I was not going to leave Okinawa without trying - goat sashimi!
Price - 3,400 JPY for everything

I have to return to Okinawa. My favorite duty stationed while I was in the Marine Corps. MCAS Futenma HQHQ, there was a small restaurant just down the hill from MCAS Futenma that had the best Shoba noddles and chicken teriyaki. Shakeys Pizza, Taco rice, Goya Champuru, Teppanyyaki Kobe, Habu Pit and Chicken and Papa. Marc enjoy your Okinawa journey, it is life changing. The Okinawian people are so friendly and kind. They have the best diet in the world and the most people over the age of 100.
You talking about My House!
I used to work at habu pit!!!!
@@098hazuki That is awesome.
I miss Okinawa so much! Iâm half Okinawan and currently living in America. Everyday I think about Okinawa lol.. canât wait to go back even if itâs just to visit. đ€©

My family has been living in Okinawa for about a year and we have 2 more years left (Military Family). I can tell this! Mark's video hit the nail on the head! Great job!
to everyone, pls keep pushing in life and never give up. can't wait to see you successful one day and May God Bless You! đ„°đđ»đđ»
For a small island, Okinawa has a huge amount of interesting dishes. To have a guide is essential! Your stop at the market & the fish lunch on another video was fantastic. This day you certainly visited some other super foodie stops, not the least were the Izikaya & the goat restaurant. Great short tour of Okinawa, Mark. I'm so impressed with Micah, who occupies himself with games & drawing while your wife is filming! He also enjoys some of the food , I guess. You're raising him right!
okinawa is part of china
Mahalo for explaining the difference between mainland Japan and Okinawan food. People don't realize that Okinawa was once it's own country with their own language, too. BTW, you must have been influenced by your mother and/or grandmother by calling it shave ice!
That is awesome you came here! I am the only CZcamsr in Okinawa when it comes to all things 'Longevity Island'. Did you know its the land of immortals? And their food is a partial reason as to why! (but not the only reason). I wish I could have shown you my favorite traditional Okinawan food spots!
How can you maintaining so slim while eating non stop đđđïŒnow you make me want to go to Okinawa ! Thanks for sharing.
This sounds cruel, but if he were my husband I would worry about worms etc from all the street cauldrons of boiling intestines in dirty rooms with no running water
Visited Meguro Miso today. Delicious, thanks!!
My lord, that miso soup with the grilled rice ball and freshly shaved Bonito đź That is an express ticket to heaven right there! I think I just teared up đ
Pretty sure I was squeezing my kleenex as well....
@@melaniefisher8823 good to know I am not alone đ
ââ@@melaniefisher8823queezing my Kleenex"!!!?
The tofu soup did the justice for me. I love the Korean version more due to the spiciness incorporated.
@Chuck Tz1983 I can relate to the Korean preference đ spice adds that special somethin'...
Dude, everyone from mainland Japan and foreigners visiting Okinawa that you got to have Taco Rice! The place to have it is Charlies Tacos since like 1956 , plus their tacos are unique and delicious. Lived previously on Okinawa a total of 9.5 years. May be heading there for a visit in June
FINALLY!!!! Iâve been living here for 4 1/2 years and my kids and I have said for 4 1/2 years when will Mark Wens come to this amazing island!!!! I knew it would happen one day â€!!!! I am soooo happy đ.

I miss Okinawa. We lived there for 3 years, and we enjoy every moment living there!
You took the words right out of my mouth. My dad was stationed in Okinawa Japan. We lived there for 3 years. I miss it so much!!
I am slowly adding more Japanese food into my diet. I love the culture and the food is amazing.
I can see Yuji is a hipster and the miso soup place takes the cake of the hipster kingdom. I loved when you two bit into Yakionigiri, both of you made a noise only when people eat something so good yet simple.
So mouthwatering delicious food I'm craving
I currently really appreciate red or dark Miso with salad and maybe an egg thrown in. So simple yet so tasty.
Thank you for the very nice video of the Okinawa gourmet tourđ
I must commend you Mark. I have never heard someone speak so fluently about food. You always have the right words and you seem to improve your vocabulary with every video. I particularly enjoyed this video because of how you described each taste experience, felt like I was tasting the food with you.
Thank you đđŸ
Great to see you come visit Okinawa. I have been here for over 19 years, awesome place!
Incredible! Wow the tofu from Japan is so buttery & delightful it literally just melts in your mouth instantly when consuming. I has been fortunate to experience the Korean version as well and find it more of my liking because of the spicy kick it contains each bite. Either one is desirable & satisfying. Thanks again & again Mark for the great substance you never tend to miss provide us foodies. đđđž Cheers!
Japanese food is so unique and delicious with the majority of locals so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return. Another awesome upload Mark đ€€đđœ

So awesome Mark! What a great experience foe you, the ramen with that clear broth looked like heaven in a plate.
Mr. Mark is eating the local food of the island we live in!
I'm so happyâȘ
Goya Champuru is rich in vitamins and has an effect to prevent summer fatigue in hot Okinawa!
I've watched you for some time now and it is impressive that you make sure that you take your family with you where ever you travel to.
look the food was absolutely freshđ
Love your content Bro!
I like Mark Iâve never seen someone genuinely enjoy food like him and explain why. OH WOW!Course what he doesnât like he excludes but I like when he makes videos of directed at that!đ
OMG Mark! In the Kitamae area of Chatan is a historic 2 floor restaurant that serves next level, loaded yak'soba as your complete dinner. With 'beverage' lol. ( I recommend the national Orion Beer)
Locals can guide you if you ever get near there again.
Don't miss Koza Town for nightlife. MUST SEE! Again locals or taxis will take you there. PLAN ON THAT!
Cheers!
Awesome job mark with food vlog
This video is awesome. The miso soup look so good, and the charred crispy rice ball looks really delicious. Great for a light snack in the afternoon or even as a supper meal if you want to go light on the food.

The centaurian study found that the diet high in fish (omega-3), vegetables, and rice were beneficial, but it the social factor of community support and friendships within, helped keep people happy and healthy into their twilight years
I am from Greece and i love Japan
Mark brought back my nostalgia. I missed Okinawa and OIC. Great environment, great people, great food!

Okinawa is awesome! Love the tofu+bittergourd thing, the pig ears, the pork bellies, fantastic! Dang, didn't get the chance to try that goat sashimi.
WOW. Goat Sashimi. Only in Japan. The last time I saw Chicken Sashimi in your videos long ago, I was wondering if they had others too. This video answers my question. Just WOW for the Japanese meat quality that you can eat it raw.
You keep saying the food is simple but i cant produce the same product its more of an art than simple such amazing chefs
