It is about five inches long and I cannot wait for it to grow into a fully mature leaf. 🙂 Love your videos. I always learn so much. Thank you.

      Yeah, America just has a way, way larger market for exotic plants so more businesses are willing to take risks sourcing and propagating them. Here in Australia it’s mostly in the hands of hobbyists with backyard greenhouses who can’t scale production, so prices remain high for a loooong time.
      I am trying to start up a Nepenthes collection down here in Melbourne and some of the prices are pretty insane when you compare them to the US, but I haven’t seen one over $500AUD yet😆

    Lol, to plant prices in different locations. I absolutely love the $3 Canadian ($2.25 US) philodendron mamei I bought locally outside of Vancouver, BC. It is happily growing out of my aquarium in water. However, I never would have experimented with a $40 plus plant as a fish filter.

    I do think the variegated adansonii are pretty pricey however if you have the chance to get a small cutting with a root system I feel they grow crazy fast. When I bought it all the leaves had pretty much half moon variegation and a few leaves started to brown when I put it in high humidity as well, but once I took it out it was perfectly happy under a grow light in my living room humidity which is about 45-55% no browning at all.

    • @prettyingreen

    So 9 months later, and spiritus sancti has crashed in price but is still so overrated.
    I think syngonium is going to make a comeback. I have a big mojito, and even just green it would be beautiful. I have my eye on the strawberry ice and frosted heart/ice frost (chiapanese). I want em.
    I almost feel like aglaonema is going to come back. There are some really pretty green/ silver/ white varieties.
    Anthurium needs to sit down. I love em but prices are out of control.

      @@plantypittsburgh really? Interesting! Mine do so well, they can be dry for days with zero issues and Ive got 3 different ones now. Odd. But I agree, big box stores and even some nurseries just produce and sell shit plants meant to die, this is a business after-all. Let me share an experience with 2 Alocasia Zebrins Tigrinas I bought. They both came in absolutely terrible substrate that allowed way too little airflow (pure coco coir), it was so hydrophobic not even a day of bottom watering fixed it, and terribly rootbound. I have no idea how the nursery even watered it, or how it grew at all, but it did. Both plants had 2 stems per pot, and they all quickly started drooping and dropping leaves. So I tried to repot it in a good aroid substrate, but it was terribly difficult to remove the shitty coco, resulting inna decent amount of ripped roots and of course, resulting in shock. Both plants rotted at the roots as a result and died. It really pisses me off sometimes how you are just screwed from the start with a plant. Ive had this issue with several other Alocasias too (root plugs especially are a nightmare bc of how sensitive the species is) and others that came in actual good soil thrive and do great. Anyway, that's my rant lol, long story short: some plants are doomed to die due to the practises of nurseries.

    • @plantypittsburgh
      @plantypittsburgh Před 10 měsíci

      @@tortyreus2384 That is exactly what happened with one of my aglaonema. It didn't have a cultivar id, and I can't find one that exactly matches. I had 2 plants one is going to make it after the roots on both rotted away entirely. I have a aglaonema bamboo that is growing new roots in water as well.
      What's strange is that they should be able to take the transplant shock. They have huge, noodle roots like anthurium. 🤷‍♀️

    • @prettyingreen
      @prettyingreen  Před rokem +1

      I think that’s about right. White Wizard is the one of the trifecta I actually haven’t grown, but I assume it will act similar to white knight. It is possible that the variegation comes and goes. Happens with Pink Princess and White Princess too. Quite fickle variegation

    I have to disagree on the Philodendron Spiritus Sancti, it is a lot less expensive than you suggested (even at the time of making this video), I got mine in spring of 2022 for roughly $450 after conversion, yes it was too expensive for a TC plant but it is now growing >1 foot leaves that have the classic Spiritus Sancti lobes which I love so much. I've owned more than 25 different philodendrons and place this one above all else not only for its beauty but also for its ease of care. The leaf shape is really up there with the joepii and longilobatum ''Lelano Miyano'' in my opinion but the glaucous colour of the Spiritus takes it a step ahead.
    I'll also disagree about the variegated billietiae, I understand that this was one very expensive plant at the time of making this video (and I'm with you on this, I wouldn't be willing to pay more than a few thousands for a single plant, especially since I've never sold a single cutting from my collection) but it has since dropped in price considerably and, although I'm not a variegation fiend, this one caught my eye because it's striking and its leaves can get quite large as well. It is currently selling for around 400-500USD in my area but I recently spotted a cutting for 180USD which I might decide to grab later this week if it's still available...
