Thanks for this, Fern. I chose the green one of course. And I actually got mine for $0 I only had to pay for the shipping. 💚
My billietiae survived in damp spagnum for 6 months without any roots after I got it. He didn't even loose a leaf and all of a sudden he grew roots and gave me 2 new leaves this spring. Hardy? Billies are the MF Survival Masters of Plant Universe.
Wow 😯
One thing that I really appreciate and that I think makes you stand out in the plant community is that you let your plants grow instead of prioritizing propping. I was so happy when you were showing the painted lady, expecting you to say you were going to have to prop it soon but instead you said you’ll have to add an extension. On the other hand, you also seem to appreciate your small plants and I can tell you simply find joy in the process of growing your plants out!
My husband is literally the most picky human on the plant when it comes to dang razors!! Harry's is the only one he'll use and his face is sooo dang sooooft!
Thats awesome you have them as a sponsor!
I find my pink princess my easiest plant! It was beast in my dry desert 16% humidity house. New leaves every other week. It reverted around November last year and so I cut it back and I’ve been getting the most gorgeous pink leaves! So much var! I recommend watering when the soil is dry, I found they like a little dry period, and try not to help
Leaves unless there so close to coming out they are bending or you kept in high humidity for a couple days. I’m so sorry you’ve had a bad experience but I promise there really easy grows! Great plants as always fern.
watching this as I'm actively ruining my third melano leaf in a row... definitely keep us updated on how yours is doing outside the cabinet!
I have to say, my PPP is so easy. It doesn't have the most stunning varigation, but there is at least a little pink on every single leaf. And the leaves come in so huge, it's just amazing.
So I get it when people struggle with getting a lot of varigation, but I feel like the plant is so beautiful anyway as soon as it grows into a big established plant
After a hard day at work dealing with so many people who I imagine as “Rex Begonias”, I’m finally winding down watching you videos 💚🪴💚 I agree… gorgeous plant but I could only keep my PPP happy for 18 days 🙈
Obsessed with your painted lady! It’s been on my list for a while, so I’m happy to hear it’s an easy one.
Love your videos. It's great to learn and see your beautiful plants. Thanks Fern 🌿
I have about 9 different pink princesses in my collection; both tc and non tc. The key to them is bright indirect light. As bright as they can tolerate! You may have to move them around a bit to figure it out. Also they love decent humidity like 50ish % so that the leaves come out easily without tearing. Watering is the same as most other philodendron but I actually wait until the leaves on my ppp feel a little less robust and then I water. (If they feel thin or droopy looking, it’s time to water.)
Yessss killing it with the regular uploads!!
PPP is one of my easiest and most variegated plants! I have 11 of them 🙈 (went a lil nuts propagating and kept most of the babies). I'm convinced it's a genetics thing. If you want one, invest in a plant that has high variegation to start, that's what I did 🤗🌱
Thank you that you finally make an update to the Florida beauty. I am in love
All just so beautiful,be proud!
💚🌵🪴🌱
Your hair is amazing !!!
I'm sooooo happy your easiest is the billietiae!!!! This is one of my wish list plants but at about £100 it's a bit scary not knowing how chilled they are. I love, love, love this plant.
YESSSSS!!! New video!! I’ve been binge watching the older ones. Haha
Loving the regular uploads girl 🙏🏼 really wanted a Florida beauty but now not so much 😂
P. Melanochrysum: the pole has to stay moist constantly. You cannot miss a day of it drying up at all as this will kill the aerial roots. When that happens, the plant essentially resets itself again and keep putting out smaller leaves.
I keep mine moist via essentially wrapping the poles in Saran wrap and poke holes strategically all over. I also create openings every 6 to 12 inches or so. These openings afe your water access and you water the pole through this.
I also experimented with putting the humidifier mist right near above the pols via a shelf or another sturdy support (MAKE SURE IT IS STURDY AND STABLE) and this also helps tremendously with keeping the poles moist. I have three moss poles of P Melanochrysum under a humidifier right now and they are growing like crazy. I grow these indoors without using a greenhouse or cabinet here in Southern California (we get those Santa winds and my relative thumidity plummets to single digits for a week sometimes) and i have been successful in creating a microclimate near these plants using the humidifier trick I mentioned above alongside the strategic use of Saran wrap.
I have a baby Melano being shipped to me at the moment and I’m screen shotting this great advice. Thank you!!
Always look forward to your uploads ☺️
Great video Fern it was perfect 🥰
My melanochrysum is an absolute thorn in my side. The leaves constantly get stuck and break. I just chopped mine up today for propogating because the vine had so many missing leaves. Maybe now that it's late spring and a lot more humid, it'll behave for a while.
EDIT to mention- I got my pink princess from Botanicaz last year and the variegation is stunning! Maybe try one of theirs??
I lightly mist the new leaves (a couple of times a day) as they form and grow. So far I’ve never had any problems with that part.
That melanochrysum is sooo beautiful! I actually find the smaller leaves really cute but I understand your frustration.
Also the black pillow on your bed frame makes it looks like there are two black cats cuddling 🐈🐈 or maybe that's just my weird imagination :
I see it and then the "white cat" in the corner 😂
The minute I put my pink princess right under a full spectrum grow light, I have been getting the most wonderful variegation.
I recently acquired a Florida, plain green though, as a precursor to the Beauty. I do NOT want to mess that…beauty😅…up when I finally find one, so good to know that you find it more on the difficult side of Phils
Oh boy! Your Painted Lady is a beauty 😍 mine is just a baby, but so far she has been a breeze.
Great video😊
I am living for your hair that length ❤️
My philodendron prince of orange has been the most difficult for me The leaves get stuck. It’s rotted and had to regrow it.. still small and ugly. I’m about on the cusp of letting it cross the plant rainbow bridge
I am starting with a rooting wet stick for my billietiae and I am so excited I just got my 1st baby leaf!!! I got a green handle for my razor, thanks for the discount!!! Have an amazing week!! ❤❤❤❤ your videos!!!
I think it's definitely genetics with pink princess 👑 Mine is mix sectoral and speckled marble variegation on each leaf, they go really dark (nearly black) and bright pink 💖 It's one of my favourites! 🥰 BTW received your merch the other day, I'm obsessed with the sweatshirt (plants in the future) 👍💚
my PPP, i treat her just like a ZZ. I don't water her too much when there isn't a whole lot of light, but when she's actively growing and getting PLENTY of light i water her more frequently. Don't let her feet stay wet thought they hate it. Inch worm thing that they do with the leaves, only happened once. not enough natural light. I moved her to a south facing window and she never did that again. No secret to the pink, just give her some sun. More light i think is what it needs, and more Sun.
Thanks so much 👍very helpful video. I just got home and there you were. I bought an alocasia Nairobi night. The most I have spent on a 🪴. I hope it grows well. It’s so beautiful 😍. Your plants are looking great.🥰
As a beginner, I got a philodendron pink princess because it just was my top wishlist plant. When I first got it, I just wasn’t in love the way I thought I was going to with it. So I chopped her up and made her three cutting including cutting to the most variegated leaf. She is just growing amazingly after I did that. Also I think it’s partly the pink streaks in the steams, that determines the amount of pink you will have. But understandably, pink leaves just don’t last, since they don’t have enough green to grow. I had one half leaf and it just crooked on me🤦🏻♀️. But I do have it in front of a grow light because I live in Alaska. At this point, I just love the leaves, the growth it’s been giving me, and philodendrons in general. I enjoy taking care of it, one of my top plants in my collection🙂🖤 I really want to get a silver sword and a painted lady, personally my next two wishlist plants 🪴
AHH YOU ARE A VIBE IN THIS VIDEO! so freaking hyped this day, I love it lol!!
hopefully my energy comes back to me soon lol 🫠
You are just the cutest. I'm obsessed with philodendrons. I want a tortum so bad
I DO Watch Enough Of Your Videos That I SHOULD Be Subscribed... AND Now I Am!!! I'm ALL About The Philos Since THEY'VE Proven To Be Some Plant Survivors To ME!!!
You should put your billieatea on a stake! Mine started to grow so much prettier and leaves got much bigger with the support!
I’ve found the best way to ensure new melano leaves don’t get stuck is to use a squeeze bottle and each day squeeze water on the emerging leaf. I haven’t tried this for my Pink Princess but I suspect it would work in a similar way… Also my Pink Princess plant had some sectoral variegation coming through every 3 leaves or so which I wasn’t overly happy with. I decided to air-layer the plant and propagated each leaf. I got awesome variegation on over half the props with some putting out fully pink or half moon leaves! There was only one prop that had very little variegation in the end so I would definitely recommend that others try this!
Prob the best melano I’ve seen indoors 👏👏👏
Love your vids 😻 drop dead gorgeous by the way ☺️
I am getting a philodendron pink princess tomorrow!!! Love your videos!!!
Amazing!! Hope you have great luck with yours 😊
Hey Fren 🙂
Firstly I love your videos and topics you choose to do 👍
I love Philodendrons, there's just something about them...that makes me want them all.
Some of my favourites and seem to be my easy growers are Xanadu, Florida Green and my Verrucosum which I've had for about 5 months and has pushing out 3 new leaves which I'm so happy about.
I too also love to peeling off my plants, it's such a satisfying feeling.
Your looking so well which is great to see. And lastly I have to say I love your tattoos 🙂
Rhi 💚
I LOVE the Painted Lady! I got one few months ago and it was around 50cm, now in such a short time turned tall almost like me (I'm 186 cm), it's just a monster! Mine is climbing also on a moss pole and I had to add another two extensions because couldn't just change the pole, it's too much rooted on it and impossible to take it off from it. Also there are 3/4 leaves with different shades that are amazing, looks almost variegated.
One of my favorites plants 🌱
yes the billietiea is one tough plant to think i was nervous not to kill it when i first got it! youv'e inspired me to see if the cataphyll sheath is ready to peel off, perhaps i may lick the extrafloral nectar of it or perhaps not 🤔
Hi Fern, did you see my email about sending you a begonia amphioxus?
I hope she did
thats so kind of you 💚💚🥰
boosting
Oh this is awesome. I was so considering looking into shipping to Canada too!
@@theplantwitch6052 me too
I’m so over my melanochrysum 😂 I mean, it’s beautiful, but I’m done with it and selling it off as cuttings. It’s too much hassle to try and keep it looking semi decent. I’ve never wanted a Florida Beauty, but I don’t like lime green foliage. It doesn’t seem worth it for the price when the variegation is so unstable. I also completely agree with you about the pink princess…mine was ugly at best and was also sold off as cuttings in the end 🙈
I have also found the Philodendron white knight to be quite hard! very similar problems to the ones you had with the pink princess. I keep getting ugly brownish leaves so I chopped it up in 3... fingers crossed. also one think I have learned is that they require very very high humidity! like 70% up and that is meant to help the leaves getting stuck
On ur last video,,u talked bout loving maranta an there under rated...I so agree,,I have the silver band an it's my favorite...Its so beautiful,,I cant get enough..Love ur channel, an ur amazing girl.
Fern!!! Thank you so much for another great vid, I love your energy! My favourite of yours is probably the glorious (just because I have wanted to get my hands on that plant for ages now) 🌿Also your Florida beauty is beyond beautiful!!! I had the exact same thing with my PPP and really fallen out of love with her tbh but watched Claire's vid from the jungle haven the other day and feel like I'm not ready to give up all hope yet cause omg I just want mine to grow that big lol. Also can I ask if you've ever tied up your Billietai to contain the growth more? I'm thinking of doing that with mine but haven't seen people doing it and wondered if it would be bad for the plant... Thank you again and have a great day xxxx
I know it's a basic plant, but my burle marx is like a tank. It is the easiest to propagate, the least fussy, growing like crazy no matter how often I water it, or the light conditions!
I have three Pink Princesses growing on a mosspole in one pot. A fourth one has just been produced. I agree that the varigatiom very much depends on the genetic. One of my three ppps has the most beautiful saturated pink varigations in every single leaf. It even popped out a fully pink leaf. But the other two aren't closely as varigated. Luckily I also very much adore their dark foliage. My ppp is thriving and almost 1.20m tall by now. It's standing in a west window, getting direct sunlight in the morning and indirect light during the rest of the day. For me she's my favorite 💗
OMG, your Melano looks awesome!! I just got my 1st one 7 weeks ago today and other than the shipping breakages in the leaves she is doing great out in my normal office 65-70% RH. I live in the same climate as you, so I am hoping mine will look as good as yours soon!! You mentioned cutting leaves back to the node, is their a finite # of leaves a node will produce? I propagated a Monstera over a year ago in coco coir with water down in the reservoir, and the roots have gone absolutely insane & loving life, but only 1 thrips damaged leaf from a year ago, and no new leaves whatsoever. I'm wondering if I should toss it or will it ever give a new leaf?
If you love painted lady you'd enjoy an autumn queen. They are SO similar. Autumn queen comes in a BRIGHT pink color and fades to look like a massive painted lady leaf. It has redishpinkish abaxials. It's also just as easy to grow!
Ohh, I have never heard that one before. I will definitely check it. I got my painted lady after I saw Fern's 🌸
@@esrademir2463 not enough people know about it! when autumn queen gets big it gets ruffled edges. It's literally the best 😭 my newest autumn queen leaf Is almost 2 feet long and it's just a baby 😭😭💝
@@TalkPlantyToMe That's so lovely!
My easiest has to be camposportanum, grows without a humidifier in my 20% humidity and sends out aerials even when my moss poles were bone dry. Most difficult was melanochrysum - I sold it less than half what I paid cuz it kept aborting it's leaves and getting stuck.
i recently got a TC flobe for free with my order, im so stoked about it but i also dont mind if it never develops variegation. florida philodendrons, wether green or ghost of beauty, are literally such beautiful plants.
When you pull the dry old part of the leaf off it always reminds me of pulling off sunburn skin 🤣🤣
Omg lol 😆
My PPP has been ok. I cut it back because the last three leaves were reverted but it put out 2 pups that are absolutely gorgeous. 😍
Loved this video!! Your philo painted lady is STUNNING!! Goals!!! I gotta pay more attention to mine- it’s super small and super sad lol
Thank you so much!! 💚
I have actually had my ppp for about a year and it is one of my easiest phulodendrons haha. I just give mine strong light and water once a week and then it gives me s lot of pink
I just bought an unrooted Florida Beauty 🤭 Not a risk I would normally take but it was a local seller and its my Birthday so wish me luck 🙏
I don't know if anybody ever told you, you look so beautiful ❤️
Painted lady was NEVER in my consideration but I saw one on sale for $10 at walmart and bought it out of curiosity. I regretted it on the way home because I reaaaally should only buy plants on my wishlist, but as soon as i put it in my home it was one of my new favorites. The leaves stand out from my entire collection, AND I was able to separate it into 3 different plants, so score!
Hi Fern, your biliatie is so pretty. They're not really common at my area but I wish to have my own one. I'm trying to gow my plants so I can trade for it next year.
I do have the same problems with my ppp as everyone. It took it a whole year to get used to my place, and now it gives me very small pink pieces but it just won't size up... eh. I mean it grows really fast but that's it. I'm thinking about getting a different one, lol.
Also after hearing about superthrive vitamins from you I gave it a try and it is so good! My plants love it!
I just bought starter plants of the billietiae and and a melanochysum! Glad I wanted the billietiae a lot more, we'll see how I end up doing with the melanochysum but im going to give it my best shot and a humidifier! I've got a small space so I don't mind it staying small
you are gorgeous!!
My best growing philo is my beloved prince of orange!
Micans supremacy! 🌟
Oh true true love Micans!
Hello, Fern! You look so pretty in this video, you are a natural beauty and are rocking that short haircut, I love it! I just can't get enough of your Philodendron videos, they're my fav. Thanks for the tips n advice when it comes to caring for them because I'm def gonna be adding some to my collection very soon. You're the best, girlfriend!🙏😁
Awe thank you so much Melissa! Glad you're enjoying the vids - philodendron are the best 🥰
@@wildfern You're very welcome, darlin!🙏
Hey Fern, as always I love your videos. But I have a recommendation for you. You know when the philo's are doing the inchworm thing instead of tweezers use hot warm to hot q-tip ( like wet the q-tip head under warm to hot water) then use the q-tipp to loosen the sleeth and get the stuck leaf out. I do it all the time and it does not break your leaf. Honestly, I do not know if it really has to be warm water, but I figure why not for the humidity. lol. Hope that helps. I have yet to have a torn leaf. Good luck 💚😀
Tbh I didn’t even know it was okay to take off the sleeths! I’ve been curious because I felt like I could have saved a lot of leaves but no one ever talks about it lol
Good afternoon from Ky, if you're not to busy could you do video the philos that need the most humidity? I want to expand my collection but I want to make sure I have what they need.
For some weird reason, I have no problem with melanochrysum. It’s near a humidifier and a bunch of other plants. I cannot grow philodendron Brazil. It does fine for a little while, then drops leaves and turns into a stunted wiry leafless vine.
I love all those plants 🪴 am getting some glass shelves put up!! But am concern about winter and I don’t know if I should do a purchase from another country or a nursery in New York City🤷♀️nyc👒🧤🇹🇹
After Aglaonemas, Philodendrons are definitely my favorite plants. Yours look gorgeous too!🥰
Hi Carmen!!!
Oh and I have also heard that people who have really big leaves on their melanocrysum plants are feeding them with fertilizers like Miracle grow. Not so much the natural stuff most of us use like fish fertilizer or liqui-dirt. They are basically on steroids. Lol
Oh no, melanochrysum was on my wish list maybe I’ll switch it to the glorious !
My melanochrysum is a fast grower and seems happy but it gets stuck all the time and keeps damaging itself. I wish it would give me a rewarding feeling.. ._. Ugh! Its stressing me up and I chopped it into cuttings today, to get rid off the damaged leaves. I enjoy the pause from it while its rooting now 😅
How do you water and keep your moss poles wet? When I moisten mine it all runs down and over saturates my plants 🌱
Cover each nodes with spaghnum moss, eventually it’s aerial roots will grow into the moss pole and it’s leaves will get bigger.
Ok on the real, do you get your lashes done bc they're INCREDIBLE
Yes but I'm letting them go right now so they're almost all off haha
I am definitely struggling with my Philodendron Pink Princess which is growing small leaves and less variegations. Also my Philodendron White Princess the white parts not staying pristine white they get discoloured and go brown. Don’t photosynthesis well i was told only the green parts. Wow the Philodendron Billietiae the leaves look amazing but don’t like plants growing in an 360 axle way.
The Florida Beauty has a kind of ‚Polaroid‘-Variegation, kinda like the Florida Ghost. The leaves begin without variegation and then start showing it after some time. The more light it gets the longer it‘ll stay in that creamy-yellow stage; again analogous to the white leaves of the ghost.
pink princesses are so annoying for me 😅 every leaf since i got it has gotten stuck at some point and eventually broke off. it was on my wish list but now i kinda regret getting it lol
😳My PPP is so easy 🤷🏼♀️ but boy do I want a Painted Lady 😍😍😍
Thanks again for such a great video!
That’s amazing that your PPP is doing well! Well done 👏 thanks for watching x
My melanochrysum has been absolutely horrific to deal with. It’s taken nearly a year for it to acclimatise to my house and I’ve chopped it 3 times. However, I managed to get a wet stick from it to grow and I nearly cried I was so happy 😅
I have a billietiae seedling and am wondering when I will have a plant.
Your melano is beautiful. Which substrate are you using with it? Your chunky potting mix or pon? I just got one that was growing in Leca and is currently n moss. I really want to succeed so any tips you could give me on substrate would be so helpful. Thank you
big Fan 💗🌱
Love my Pink Lady… but her leaves keep getting STUCK and I’m having issues with her sizing up her leaves… although the variegation is gorgeous!! My Golden Goddess does very well though… I would talk about my Billy.. philodendron if I could afford one lol. Your Tortom is still the plant of yours that I covet the most HANDS DOWN!!
I’ve never had a problem with PPP (asides from variegation) but the Verucosum has come for me and my family SEVERAL times
I'm currently re-acclimating my small melano to ambient humidity and if it can't deal with that, it has to go. Leaves get stuck all the time, but my melano was the only plant where they just ripped and got all ugly right away. Tbh, your melano looks like my micans I have on a mosspole (which can also go dry), which makes me even more content with the idea of letting the idea of huge beautiful melano leaves go :) although I'm a little sad since I think they're the prettiest of all velvet climbing philos
I've ripped 2 leaves off my PPP. I haven't had a single leaf not get stuck. It finally gave me a halfmoon leaf, after several plain leaves, but it was tiny and all messed up, since it got stuck.
Awe I’ve been there 😩
What is the name of the plant in the background?? It has such cool fenestrations!!
OMG Fern Billie is Freakin Beautiful aaaaahhhhhhh Wow
❤ you. ❤️ your face. ❤️ your plants. ❤️ your channel.
Science technology foliage spray . Works extremely well I might plans to get really large leaves.
I definitely think the PPP is all genetics/stem variegation. Moist Q-tip will be necessary for saving the ballerinas 🤣
I am about to go pick up a Philodendron hederaceum silver stripe, has anyone here had any problems with them?
I killed the new growth on my billi :( wahhhhhhh 😭 I love your video first time watcher!!!
Awww! And thanks for watching!
I definitely think pink princess is all about the genetics and how established the plant is
