Becca, the gate valve before the pump⊠youâre closing it turning it clockwise. Also you probably should prime the pump before you charge the accumulator with pressure.
Thanks Paul, I fortunately realised this at the time and so then opened it but it's just not int he video! I've had lots of people commenting on that! Can you imagine if that had been all it was!! That's interesting. How do you prime it?
Becks, you want to keep that p-trap or as you called it " u-joint". It keeps water in it to block the stink air from flowing back into the boat. When you drain the sink it's enough water to make it flow but you always have water in the p-trap to block any stink from any bits of food waste washed down into the grey water tank. Trust me. It's the same principle as water in a toilet bowl. So the sewer stink doesn't come up. Cheers from Canada and love the channel.đđđđđšđŠđšđŠđđ
Ooh thanks so much for this Sheila. I wasn't sure if the same rules applied with it being a boat waste outlet as it just runs straight out the side but it makes lots of sense! Thanks so much! Sending you warm wishes over to Canada âșïž
Hi Guys, did you check if you have a fuse at the fuse box that needs turning on to work the pump? That is how my one works. Your pump will come on and fill the accumulator regardless of cold tap being open or not (probably). So that is (in my opinion) the key to your puzzle. Power to the pump. Everything you did looks similar to mine other than...... My pump stands on rubber to dampen noise and vibration and there are little bits of pipe between each part, (filter, pump, accumulator) but that uses more connectors. It may be just a way to minimize potential leeks through vibration. Good luck with it.
Thanks so much Steve this is all really useful. I'm fairly convinced that it's a power issue too so my next move was to find the fuse box and have a look in there. Il definitely think about mounting the pump on a piece of rubber too as they really are blumming noisy! Plus I'm sure the pump would appreciate a softer surface!! Thanks again!
Oh dear. Gravity works a bit differently on this planet, and the Hitchhiker's Guide could not have prepared you for that. Don't worry, Bex, you're still a hero. You might have to ask the Mighty Titan for advice.
That's a good point,we may need to get the Titan out from his hibernate state to take charge again
Dang...you'll figure it out. All that you have done is beautiful!
Thanks so much Mary x
Ohhh, fantastic stuff as always. What a cliffhanger!
I could watch your vlogs forever.
Aww thanks so much Nige! We're really glad you're enjoying them!
Hi Becca, Chris, the Red mains you (Becca) turned on, it looked like you were turning it off by turning it clockwise, but what do I know. Anyway Becca you are doing an amazing job with your plumbing, it has to be something simple that's wrong. Chris loving the the return of my fav dramatic music. Your hatch work this week looks amazing, well done. Everything is looking good. Loved the Vlog, great editing Chris. Take care, can't wait to see what the water issue was, you always leave us on hanging on a knife's-Edge.Take Care. Oh yes, great fluffy spider thing!!!!
You are absolutely right! In the vid I'm turning it off but I did fortunately realise this at the time and opened it again before trying the tap. Thanks so much, I'm sure it is something small..now just to find it!! Thanks so much for your lovely comments, il pass them onto Chris too!
Turn the water on guys. You turned it off. đđđ€ Fair play for giving it ago. Great job Chris. Love those kitchen taps. Brilliant. Ta Ra rippers
Cheers Will yeah I think it was partly the way it was edited accidentally, we did turn it bk on, sure bex will be bk with vengeance
Your carpentry skills look good, son. If anything you have learned a lot doing up your boat. Just think about when you purchased your boat, what you knew about DIY then and what you know now. Impressive! As for Becca, she must have spent hours online, working out how to solve problems by yourself. You both make a lovely team.
thanks mum, yeah im growing with my DIY experience every day, Becca put alot of working into the plumbing bless her, im sure she will crack it :)
Put a multi meter on the pump to see if you are getting power, check fuses and cables, as soon as water is on the should have started pumping to fill up the accumulator
Thanks Leona. This is what I thought to which has led me to think this mostly like a power issue. I'm off to grab a multimeter as I don't currently have one! Thanks for your suggestions!
@@TheNomadicCrobot wishing you the best of luck with it, looking forward to the next installment
Thanks so much âșïž
Cliff hanger..... awh. Chris your hatches are looking nice and Bex I know you'll figure it out. Good on you both for the efforts to fix things yourselves. Best wishes as always, Deb
Thanks so much for your lovely comments x
Who needs any other canal channel when we can watch your content. I found your channel last week and have been binge watching it since. Keep the content coming guys as this is unique as it gets.
Aww this is such a lovely comment to receive thank you so much. We are really glad to hear you are enjoying being part of our adventure âșïž
U bends are important they stop spiders from coming in and up the plug hole, stop cold air coming in and if you drop something like a ring down the sink you can retreive it. It also gets all the gunge-which you previously found, it needs emptying out a couple of times a year.
if it stops the spiders then count me in :) oh really....imagine all those little spider corpses building up in there ... terrifying !!!
I am every bit of confidence that the Becca will have solved the water problem by the next Vlog. Looks like you are getting lots of good advice. Chris great job on the hatches. Impressed! Great job the two of you.
đ€đ Kathy
Thanks so much Kathy, I'm trying my best, with a bit of help I'm sure il get there! Yeah he's done well there. Thanks again âșïž
Caught myself holding my breath Becca. Oh no whatâs wrong? Iâll read the comments and see what people say. Again we wait to find out and Iâm sorry Iâm no help as I had no idea what you were talking about, you could have been talking Japanese Bec. Oh Chris youâre becoming quiet the carpenter arenât you. I donât see why that wonât look great, but have you yet found the elusive missing bit of hatch frame? Another great vlog, just loving this, youâre my favourite show on TV. See you soon, take care. đ
Haha! Sorry Pauline!! I'm fairly convinced it's a power issue as the pump should have made some sort of noise when the switch was turned on so that's what I plan to investigate next! Yes he is having a good old go! I'm sure it will look great when it's finished. No joy with the missing piece though unfortunately. Thanks so much, really glad you enjoy it đ„°
Boat showering is in steps w/ limited water - water on to wet then off to soap - water to rinse - 20 liters total minum - more for a lady washing hair - best time to shower is just before & during the filling of water tank - don't forget the grey water sump pump
Thanks for the tips! We will definitely have to work on reducing our shower times! Especially me with my long old hair!
But at least yâall have a pet that requires no food!!!
You will get the water working, I have no doubts about it!!!
Chris, I bought my husband telescope magnets for when he drops things, very cheap on Amazon.
Iâm so proud of both of you!!!!
Thank you shoan those magnetics look great what an awesome idea, bec will be back fully charged to tackle it again, just teething problems I believe đ
If you find that the pump is too noisey - if you put flexible lines on both in and out of the pump, that will quiet it down. That's what we do on recreational vehicles and travel vans.
thanks so much for this hack...sounds very useful Dennis, take care :)
Becca you've done an outstanding job of it, sorry it didn't turn on. There has to be a breaker or a switch somewhere thats not set right
Thanks so much Karen, I really appreciate that. Yeah I'm sure its a power issue so will keep investigating for now!
Becca Becca Becca. You did a fantastic job, I know you wonât give up and will solve what the issue is! You will have water girly !!
Chris or crud as predictive text has just typed for your name ! Lol your getting better the more you do! Well done mr man !
To the pair of you, donât give up your doing awesome ! Hugs to you two lovely people! See you on the next one ! Soon I hope itâs like watching a soap opera ! Xxxx
Bex done amazing and I'm sure she will be back better than.l before, after all it's our mistakes we learn from..hence why I'm constantly learing haha...Will get there I'm sure this week tha ks mandy
That was a lovely vlog. I was nearly in tears at the end. But I've seen the other vlog where you fixed it đ . I learnt some new diy skills too. đ. Party on dudes. Oh and just incase you didnt know that U bend on the sink will stop SPIDERS crawling up into the sink from the outside đ
Thank you so much for enjoying the vlog, and sorry it didnt end to great, thankfully we got there in the end...well in that case maybe we need to wrap the whole boat on U bend fittings đđ
Great video guys - when we use a hire boat we have a little switch all the way down by the well deck that we are told can easily get switched off. Itâs even in the hire manual - if no water is coming out of the taps to check the switch - I think you need a power switch somewhere đ€đŒđ€đŒđ€đŒ
Thanks so much for this Anita, that's really useful to know. The whistling wombat is an ex hire boat too so il get my investigative hat on again and see what I can find. I'm sure it's a power issue too âșïž
Well I'm lost for words.i don't have a scooby doo about water works, only know when I need a loo. đ€Ł hope water flows soon. â€
Haha!!! Thanks Sheila!
Am sure you can HATCH a plan to fix the water Nice one Chris Becks keep warm have a top week đđžđ§âïž
Haha!! Like it!! Thanks Lee!
Yellie on a narrowboat, awesome đ
It's ace!!!
Hope you can get your water sorted out đ great video thanks
Thanks so much Rickon đ
Check the flow / pressure switch on the pump although I didnât see a pressure vessel on the pump ( I might have missed it ) also have a look through those flexible connectors the bore is tiny compared to the 15 mm pipe work it wonât stop the pump working but will restrict the flow .
Hmm yeah I'm not sure if there is a pressure switch on it? Il have to have another look. Thanks so much for your suggestions âșïž
Hi Guys just to let you know that I'm sorry for being late responding to you both, only I've been busy getting back to Normal.
Long story.
You are looking đ with all your DIY
Well done đ âïž đ it's looking good.
Oh no probs John, we hope everything is ok with you? Thanks so much, we are getting there slowly!
The valve under the sink with the red handle you turned off. It this helps.good luck Gary.
Thanks Gary, a few people have spotted this! Fortunately I realised this at the time and turned it on again I just didn't get this part on camera!
Great video guys. Gutted for you at the end. I had everything crossed. Hope you get it sorted. Plumbing is not my thing, so I have no useful advice. đ€đ€đ€
Thank you! No problems your words of support are just as good!
Another top vlog left in suspense đ
Thanks David! More drama than EastEnders!
I'm sure you/ll get it sorted soons Becca
Thanks Gary!
Pick up a cheap multimeter and learn how to use it. It will help you with your electrical issues, such as finding out which switch does what and if you are getting any power to the pump. Look forward to seeing flowing water in the next video. Cheers
Thanks this is exactly what I was planning to do next so that gives me some confidence that it's the right move!
See if the pump has a small reset button that may have tripped. Some do, then off you go!!!
Ooh thanks, this is really useful to know đ€
most have a gate valve or tap at the water tank end also poss turned off , good to see you both doing the work , best practice for most jobs as you will know how it works for the future saving you many ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ
I did have a look actually to see if this was the case but alas could see no other gate valve. The investigation continues...! You are absolutely right. Doing this all ourselves has saved us so much thankfully!
Fascinating you are brave tinkering with the plumbing
Thanks Michael, I like to give things a try when I can. I'm an inquisitive little thing! đ
@@TheNomadicCrobot canât wait to see the video where you have it working
Thank you đ€
Sitting here with a non alcohol Guinness. Got me thinking about your boat
sounds like a fun little night Simon ... love a Guinness
Remember this rhyme never give up never give in This is the way you gonna win Lol just made that One up
Check you out Brian! Love it and very inspirational!
others have said it but I'll try and put the steps in order for you, 1 go to dc switch board and check the switch for water pressure, 2 if that is on then go to the pump and check for 12v at the wiring connector, 3 if no power at the pump then follow the wires to see if there is a second switch, if there is take it out and connect the wires directly to the pump.4 if it doesn't come on then recheck for power at the pump if you have power then it could be either the pump or the pressure switch you can bypass the switch and if it comes on then replace the pressure switch if not replace or repair the pump. sometimes after sitting they get sticky a light percussion with a block of wood on the end ands side may loosen it enough to start.
hope this helps
This is great! Thanks so so much for taking the time to write it out for me like that. I shall continue to work my way through and see what I come up. I'm a little nervous of fiddling around with electrics as I know very little on that front and knowing my luck will manage to blow myself up or something! Hopefully not! Thanks again âșïž
@@TheNomadicCrobot It's all 12v dc the worst you can do is blow a fuse don't be nervous, I would not recommend doing 240 v ac without a thorough understanding but 12v is very safe and easy
think of the dc circuit as a plumbing run, the battery is the water pump the wires are tubes and the devices are taps . if there is no water at the tap work back to the pump to find the problem, I suggest you nget a hold of Nigel Caldwell's book on Boat maintenance it is the gospel and will make everything very clear, you have done a great job so far so I have faith you can master this too.
whats up with a hack saw hahha love the hot knife, takes me back to the solid on hot knifes haha
Nothing at all other than the hacksaw we have wouldn't cut butter! It's useless!!! Haha!!! It's a good technique!
Looks like you turn the gate valve under the sink off to turn on try turning it anti clock wise
Thanks Den, we shall give this a try đ
I have to agree - turning the valve clockwise closes it!
Haha! I'm going to have to put out a post I think as many people are commenting on this. Fortunately I realised this at the time and opened it again before trying the tap it's just not on the video!!
I was actually thinking of you two this morning, I was in screwfix to collect my Titan circular saw, then I turned to leave, and in the corner was "THE MIGHTY TITAN" I just had to laugh, I will be getting one soon lol
Haha!!! Yes!!! They are the best! đ
@@TheNomadicCrobot I start my regig next Monday, should be fun lol
Good luck with it!
Chris being let loose on the DIY , it will be fit for the scrapyard if you donât step in becs and sort it out đ
Haha!!! Bless him! He gives it a good old go!
Check to see if theres a fuse in the electrical panel for the pump circuit.
Thanks Rob, that was going to be my first port of call!
Is there a switch for the pump power circuit at you distribution board (if you have one)?
There is just the isolator switch on the wall that you can see in the video. As far as I'm aware there aren't any other isolators for it anywhere but il keep investigating incase I have over looked something ( v likely!)
good vid on the boat keep up the good vid good work thanks lee
Thanks Lee!
The suspense is causing chaos. The rotation of the main valve perhaps
Haha! So you spotted it too! Several people have mentioned in the vid you see me shutting it off! Fortunately I realised this at the time and corrected it!
@@TheNomadicCrobot nah. Donât believe you. Your done. Fix, setup đđ

@@TheNomadicCrobot I do have a reputation for been a cruel bugger at work đ€Ł
Nice Vid. Is there water up to the gate valve before the pump? Wonder if rhere is an airlock? How many takes for eaxh catch Chris?
Yes I think so. I have an inking that it is an electrical issue rather than anything else though as I think the pump should make some kind of noise, even more so if there was an airlock... I will keep investigating! Thanks for your suggestion David! Haha!! Il ask him!
Keep your chin up you will get it
Thank you
I hope that you get the water problem sorted. Looking forward to the next vlog.
Thanks so much Ruth. Fingers crossed đ€
Normally i'd hit the pump with a spaner, just to see it any contacts are stuck. if that don't work i'd hit it some more just to show it who's boss. :-)
Haha! 'If in doubt give it a clout!' I may well be reaching that point soon enough!
Is worth checking that the pump has a power supply and a good earth return?
This is what I suspect the problem is. It seemed more like an electrical issue rather than anything else as I thought the pump should attempt to make some sort of noise. This will be what I check next. Thanks Paul!
Iâm gonna come down and help you two. đ€đ»đ€đ»
Aww bless you! Thanks Nick!
@@TheNomadicCrobot you gotta get cruising this year. Get the basics done. Kitchen, bathroom hot water. Nothing worse than not having hot water or heat from the fire on a boat. đ
Absolutely. We are edging ever closer. I think by far the kitchen is the biggest job. I don't think the bathroom should take so long...famous last words!
0:04 That looks a nightmare, good luck with it. đ
Haha! You get used to it but I can't wait to be able to wash my hands conventionally!!!
@@TheNomadicCrobot I am having trouble with my plumbing at the moment, I am having trouble passing water! âŠ.. I keep jumping in. đ
Hahaha!!!!
There is a very good thing with a pump that's not working. You won't have any water leaking! And thus no risk for more rust
This is very true Rolf! Maybe it's a blessing in disguise!!! đ
Hi just thought I might say that when you were saying your turning the water on you were turning it clockwise which is off but that is not your main problem the pump is obviously not working as they are bloody noisy you would of heard it so you may have a wiring problem or the pump has had it
You are spot on, I did realise this at the time and corrected it but must have forgotten to film that bit! Thanks for mentioning though. That's exactly what I thought actually. I expected there to be some noise irrespective of everything else which made me wonder if its an electrics issue... The investigation continues!
Yippee it's my crazy couple
Hehe!! Here we are!!
Chuffed to bits with this vlog, I got my Hatches fix for 2023, not the last I'm sure or should that be hopeđ€Ł Pity you are miles away from me, I'm a Joiner by Trade so you could call me "Expert Dave", I would of come along and have done some Chippying for you two and I would even sharpen your dodgy Chisel đ Keep up the good work
Hahaha! This comment really made me chuckle!!! Such a shame! We would have loved to welcome you to our panel of experts!! Thanks so much đ„° Yeah those chisels really need sharpening. I did tell Chris but...!!!
Cris the way u are progressing,u won't need becksđ
Ha! But then who's going to cook the dinner??
You need the P-trap on the bottom of the sink. This trap will hold water and prevent odors and gasses from coming back up from the wastewater system. Good Job!!!!!!
Ahh ok that makes sense! Thanks so much for that âșïž
Not really needed if your sending water straight out through skin fitting, no odours to come back. Would stop spiders though coming in
Yeah that's what I was wondering, it's all just an awkward height to do any other way!
You wonât get odours if no trap because it goes outside not into a sewer .
Also get yourself a multi meter so you can check your voltage etc
Thanks Adie, this is my plan. I think it will be a useful tool to add to my arsenal!
Does the accumulater have enough pressure. You said it needed to be a few psi down, maybe yours is too far down in pressure
Thanks Garry that's a really good point I shall check it again. I have a feeling though that it may be an electrical problem as I expect the pump to make some sort of noise... The mystery continues!
@The Nomadic Crobot it would make a sort of buzzy noise when the tap is turned on, so yes it could be the electrics.
Hmm this is what I suspected. Thanks!
Check the gate valve, it looked like you closed it rather than opened it
Thank you I did indeed realise this at the time and turned it back but just didn't get it on video! Thanks for the thought though!
turned off at the mains?
Il have to have a bit of an investigation...
You can't end it like that....... did it work, is it sorted, is Bex ok????!!! ahhhhhhh
Haha! I'm ok!!!! The investigation continues for the moment!! In the meanwhile il keep dreaming of flowing tap water! đ

That's so incredibly lovely of you to offer thank you so much and for your lovely words.
