Well, it doesn't have enough range to call your home planet, but at least you can be heard when one of you is working a lock and the other is on the boat. That adds another possibility to your videos.

Beat me to it😂 My first thought was that I hope that they’re waterproof, Chris does have the occasional “incident”! I also wondered how much will need to be edited out 😂. All adds to to entertainment.
Remember to turn it off when in the heads / toilet. The sound quality was good and clear great upgrade

Hello Crew! 1.27 - the clip-on microphones plug into the Transmitters, not the Receiver! The foam covers for the mics aren’t much cop - Rycote do a great range - check out their lavalier windjammer which come in black, grey and white - very good and recommended and they also do specialist covers if you’re just using the TX without the cable mic. Also, the system uses the 2.4GHZ frequency range…. Guess what else is on that license-free frequency range? - yep, Wi-Fi! Do a good sound check before any recording to make sure you're clear of interference as I’ve had a lot of issues and you may get “warbling” at best. Should be good out in the sticks but take care in populated areas. Keep up the good work!

@@TheNomadicCrobot No crew - not FOAM covers - you need fluffy covers! Imagine a bald person and then someone with hair - who will feel the wind? Yep. mr baldy. The hair dissipates the wind energy of which you will find a lot once Wombat is up and running! Remember the winds blowing across the fens when you bought the boat home? Foam won't cut it as it's just a light pop shield. Happy cruising (eventually!)

Was going to say you outta check out the noise canceling mics that Robbie Cummings is using but when you did the test right above the engine, the noise was comparable, so looks like you guys have a winner there.

I've used the Lark 150 when shooting short drama films with an amateur film making group. For the price & in my experience, they are excellent when either connected directly to a camera or an external recording device. The built in battery in the box is a welcome benefit for easy charging. However, I switched out the Lav mics that come in the kit for 2 x Rode Lavalier GO mics. Thanks for the review :)

Hi you can get a hospital silencer fitted they are brilliant people often ask us if our boat is electric as it is so quiet but it comes at a very high price.

Exhaust noise depends on the muffler/silencer - do you have one? if so is it burned out ? For engine noise - self adhesive foam sound insulation - all are sold on ebay or your local narrowboat marine store - or go w/ earplugs & sound damping headphones

They were so good ! Think you’ll have no issue now. Only thing is you left us in a cliff hanger last week and here I am still on a cliff hanger ! Lol get your butts in to gear and show us what happened to the plumbing !!!!

When you test th range you must take a swim. And dive when talking, how does that Lark work then? (and how will you work after that test...)

Yes this is something we have considered. We were waiting till the summer when it would be a bit nicer to get into the engine compartment ...let's face it, it's gonna be me (Becks)!!! 😂
@@TheNomadicCrobot I suggest that you make sure that whatever type of soundproofing material you use make sure that you seal the edges ( foil tape works well ),otherwise the material can absorb water and become heavy and fall off ! Also it works best if you can put the insulation on all surfaces ,not just the underside of the deck boards.
has your exhaust got a metal heat shield on it and is the fastner loose? hard to tell from the sound alone at 2:37 could also be top end noise , but it sounds very fast for a canal boat engine.
its a ford transit engine so a bit louder than your mormal, but quite reliable by what we hear, no we done seam to have a metal heat shield

I was asking Chris this same question. I think the mics are fairly one directional rather than having like an orbital pick up so that's why it seems to pick up our voices and cut out the engine sound pretty efficiently! We have talked about sound insulation, we were going to look into it once the weather warms up a bit!! 😂
