Like others have already said, JK wrote this song as a love song for ARMY. But I truly love you guys' interpretation of it, as you are right, it does fit in those methods of love as well. And I really felt moved to tears when you mentioned parents. That IS how a parent would love their child, wanting the best for their child, giving their all for their child. And then, in their old age, losing that drive and forgetting to love themselves the way they loved us. I've had to fight with my aging parents to take better care for themselves, and what you guys said really made me feel that. Thank you.

The song is based on the book “Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart by James R. Doty”. Its about the lessons the author learned from Ruth, a woman he met in a magic shop, who taught him how to open his heart and inspired him to become a neurosurgeon. It is a great read!

hii thank you for another great reaction!💜 i love the lyrics “you gave me the best of me, so you’ll give you the best of you” so much. in my opinion in it’s about how armys supported them since their debut when even they didn’t believe in themselves, and now we brought them to the class of world stars, so they want to give it back to us. the only thing they can do for us is give us music, but it’s on us to truly understand their lyrics and their words, so at the end we ourselves have to give “me the best of me”, with their help. it’s on us to improve ourselves, it’s on us to learn to love ourselves, and they will be by our side on that journey.

In the song they say that when fans feel tired, if they look there’s this place called “Magic Shop” in their hearts, where they can find love of all the BTS members.
Magic shop is a place where your fears are exchanged for happiness.

Here BTS is showing that they do truly understand what it is like to have a mental illness or traumatic event that they were ashamed to tell anyone about.
They say that they know you are scared to tell the truth because you fear that everyone will then only see that event when they look at you. Many people can relate to this because no matter how hard they try when people learn about suicide attempts, rape victims, etc the first thing they think of is that event when the person it happened to popped into their head.
They then go onto to say that they also understand that saying stuff like “find strength” is not helpful to work up the courage to face these things. So they will tell us their story
These lines are simply to show that BTS understand. Both RM and Yoongi have talked about mental illness, suicide, and self hatred. They truly want army to know that they know how scared you might feel, how ashamed you are and how useless other people are when it comes to fixing you. They want you to know that this song is not another video or textbook or person saying “just be happy” or “feel less useless” or “push through” this song is them showing you their story.
I WILL LET YOU HEAR MY STORY, LET YOU HEAR IT
BTS have always been quite clear about their struggles and mental health state, in order to remain honest towards their fans. RM and Suga have thus admitted in their respective mixtapes (RM - 2015 and Agust D - 2016) the suicidal thoughts they once had and the depression they were fighting at the time.
This will to share this more fragile side of themselves took a further step with the Wings album (2016) where each of them participated in writing their own solo song which uncovered their respectivve insecurities, such as self-hatred, permanent guilt or the fear of seeing each other suffering.
With the Love Yourself series, they aimed at teaching ARMYs how to love themselves by applying the message to themselves first.
This line thus summarize the goal of their music: by revealing their own battle towards self-love, they hope that people will follow their example.

BTS debuted in 2013 but had a rough start, not reaching fame for a few years. Each member had their own mental problems and a one or two hinted at possible suicidal thoughts. Now, they say a lot tat ARMY is what keeps them going and keeps them strong. It’s theorized this lyric means that - the ARMY is the reason they didn’t step off the cliff. The cliff can be looked at as giving up on their career as a band, or giving up on their life. Metaphorically We kept them alive.

IT'S OKAY TO BELIEVE, THE MAGIC SHOP WILL COMFORT YOU
This is a reference to James Doty’s autobiography Into the Magic Shop. In this book, the third lesson he learns whilst in the magic shop is the importance of opening your heart. Having grown up in poverty, he found it difficult to forgive and love himself. He ignores this lesson of opening the heart during the majority of his life. However, when struck by misfortunes, like a near-death experience and losing his wealth as an established neurosurgeon, he realizes the importance of the love and compassion that comes with opening the heart.
“I opened my heart and found that my heart had the ability to connect with every other heart it met.”
THIS HERE IS THE MAGIC SHOP
Magic Shop is the psychological term for exchanging fear into a positive mindset, which makes sense with the mv. They each trade their character’s worst fear/weakness for something that makes them happy.
What Jin trades in isn’t clear, but it looks like the earbuds he had in Awake. (A song riddled with doubts and fears that he will never fly) It isn’t shown what he gets in exchange, but it looks to be the journal of the girl. The journal was a reminder of happier times, before he lost her.
Suga trades in the lighter that he tried to burn himself to death with. In return, he gets a lollipop. (A reminder of the girl who he pushed away because he was scared he would get too close and hurt her.)
J-Hope trades in the Snicker Bar his mom gave him before she abandoned him. He gets a birthday cake that he gives to his friend in Best of Me.
RM trades in a piece of the glass from Reflection (Another song riddled with regret and fear). In exchange, he gets the hairband that he gives to the girl in Best of Me.
Jimin trades in a picture of the woods from Lie. (Most likely the Observatory his character seems to be scared of) In turn, he receives the umbrella he chases J-Hope in the rain with.
What Taehyung trades in isn’t clear, but it most likely is the cellphone he tried and failed to reach RM with. (His character had just stabbed his dad because he was scared his sister would get hurt. Not being able to reach RM afterwards meant that he had to handle this guilt by himself.) In turn, he got the bag the girl had in Best of Me.
Nobody can even begin to guess what Jungkook traded in, but he got a key to the room Taehyung was in during Singularity.
5/7 of them got items in turn that had to do with love.
J-Hope and Jungkook got items that allowed them to bring joy to others lives. (Which really shows to their character) Their happiness is based on the happiness of others around them.
MY GREED THAT WAS MY WEAPON SUFFOCATED ME AND ALSO BECAME A LEASH
This line sang by Suga refers to his will to succeed in the music industry back to when he was a trainee and the newfound feeling of confinement due to his idol status that occured later on.
This darker period of his life was expressed in similar terms in the title 마지막 (The Last) from his mixtape Agust D (2016) :
“I’ve exchanged my youth for success
And that monster demands for more wealth
At times it puts a collar on my neck
To ruin and swallow me with greed”
BUT LOOKING BACK ON IT NOW, TRUTHFULLY

At first, BTS thought their only purpose as a group was to be the ‘best of the best’ (most talented, most popular etc). But now they’ve pushed aside this mindset due to discovering how powerful and influential their music can be. Inspiring others and delivering important messages is their new goal.

BTS is trying to tell us that we,ARMY,made them how they are today and saved them from giving up and that we can save usselves from giving up too. “You found me” means that luckily we found their music and their group before it was too late and they were giving up.

RM has talked repeatedly about the idea of every person having their own galaxy inside them. He uses a similar line in “I Believe” the last track of his 2015 mixtape RM. Before that, he used the similar metaphor “the real realm in me” in his pre-debut track, “Glory.”

Its more of like BTS being an inspiration to armies, armies being the inspiration for BTS. Its a give and take relationship, process between army and BTS of which can be translated to other relationships in general like what you mentioned.
