definitely the biggest surprise for me in the military was the drill instructers. instead of the yelling abuse at my inability to run, instead there was encouragement. the PT instructer stayed with me the entire way and even though I didn't make the time, was very encouraging about a second attempt, which is something else I did not expect to get

Yeah, I have a couple knee and feet problems where it slows me down when I run, and I’m feeling nervous about that part, but this helps calm those nerves that there will be encouragement and help!

Hardest thing about Air Force basic training for me was staying awake. Seriously, my mom yelled louder than any of the TIs.
It's interesting, it's how each of the service do things from there own perspective that can lead to misconceptions, like using the star for instance. For example, the army sleeps under the stars, the navy navigates by the stars and the air force judge their hotels by the stars.....

How has your experience been?
2:00: I served just over 20 years in the Air Force, most of it in Tactical Control and Combat Communications (a.k.a. the "muddy boot Air Force"), including a couple of months deployed to Bosnia (receiving combat pay), and never heard a shot fired in anger.
I’ve been thinking recently on joining the Air Force, and not going to lie you’re really selling it for me!
Was a Crew Chief on F15s. Loved it! My pilot was Capt. Dale Cooke and went on to fly with the Thunderbirds.

@@christopherbradley1922 We did go to Red Flag in Nellis and visited a couple other bases but not much. It might be different now but not sure. I did get selected to participate in a joint Air Force /Navy program called ACEVAL/AIMVAL which was an Air Combat Evaluation and Air Intercept Missile program. The Navy brought their F14s , we had our F15s and we had an "Red Force" which was flying f-5 Aggressors. They were basically looking at the effectiveness of cheaper/smaller aircraft and looking for a replacement for the AIM 9 Missile. We were there 90 days and had a blast.

I’m also a crew chief for the f-15es, to better answer your question, depending on your airframe (plane) you’ll be stationed at different places. For example, I’m stationed in idaho currently. My unit deploys about once a year, and do small deployments called TDYs a couple times a year. There are bases in most European countries so while it’s definitely not guaranteed you’ll be stationed over seas, it’s definitely a possibility. Make sure you’re absolutely sure you want to Crew Chief because this line of work can be very mentally taxing

@@SnakeArmy6655 oh man so many. A big one is definitely CE red horse. Security forces (do not recommend this career field). My job does deploy depending on bases and their missions. I was weapons same thing applies to Crew Chiefs and Specialists. Services always deploys. Anything having to do with Supply. But Civil Engineering is always deployed. Just do your research and read forums on experience before joining. Reddit youll always find mfs that went thought shit and tell it like it is.

A lot of my fellow airmen were upset about their recruiters. My recruiter never lied to me, because I never asked him any questions; I did my research ahead of time, and told him what I wanted to do (okay, this was 40 years ago). Coincidentally, I ran in to my recruiter about 4-5 years after I enlisted. He was working at a alternate command post on our compound, and we often did "favor maintenance" for them so they didn't have to call out their own maintenance people for something simple (like somebody kicked the plug out). He remembered me as one of the first people he recruited.
I also ran into other people I had been stationed with, related to someone I had been stationed with, or knew someone I had been stationed with. It's a small Air Force.

Awesome explanation of misconceptions in the Air Force! The “One team one fight” motto is also common between all branches performing together with Joint (Different US Armed Forces working together) and/or Combined (Working with Foreign Allies) missions. Love the editing of your videos.

The Air Force is more of a support type of branch; other jobs in the air force besides pilots contribute in some way to supporting pilots mission and success. That's why you hear "support wings" and "maintenance wings", etc

Just wanted to say.
For Number #3. So yes, typical deployments are 6 months. But that depends on what MAJCOM you fall under and which mission you're apart of. Most AEF deployments are 6-7 months. SOF missions are typical 4-5, sometimes less. We also have what we call "365 assignments" which last a year and are mostly volunteer (depends on rank as well). There are also "short tour Unaccompanied" overseas assignments. These last I believe 15 months to places like Lajes Field, Thule and South Korea. These assignments come with a "priority selection" of a follow up assignment. So basically, by getting selected to one of these bases without your family, the AF will reward you with priority selection of a base of your choosing. If you ever wanted to go to Japan, volunteer for one of these bases and you'll get your chance to go. Now, you can bring your family to some of these bases, but it'll turn it into an accompany tour and you'll lose that "priority selection" for your follow up and you have to be there longer. Essentially turning it into normal overseas assignment. Very few airman do this though.

I used to live in Tucson long ago and would always see them flying those A10 tank busters coming in and out of Davis Monthan AB. My father was Army Special Forces back in the 50s and he was stationed at Ramstein AB in Germany the whole time. Used to have some friends who worked as DOD contractors out at Buckley AB space ops out in Colorado. They control all of the ICBMs. Lots of things to do in the Air Force and airmen have the best benefits out of all the branches.

1. How "working" days are distributed? (Mean its 8 hours duty near aircraft during 5 days? Or there are some quantity hours which you must present at air force base? Tell about how much time, do you spend at "work", and how much time is free for you. You can go home or you stay at base on few days or weeks?
2. Salary. If it a military secret, tell approximately. And please show it after all taxes. And tell about salary-growth year after year. What does it depend on.
3. Is there any quantity of flying hours per month or year?
4. Contract. How the years are counted ? U can stay for 2,4,6 or more years? Tell about this.
55 years ago I left home (for the 1st time) to enlist in the USAF during the Vietnam War. There were incoming career field openings and a lot of incoming enlistee's who, like me, wanted to escape going to Nam as infantry cannon fodder. Based upon how you did on your tests the recruiter gives you, you were given a career field. Where you were stationed was also a function of "who was needed where". You can "choose" whatever you want. What you'll get is what the Air Force needs. That being said, I'd put my faith in what the Air Force decides they need vs. what the 20 year old version of myself wanted back in the 1960's 'every time'! The Air Force gave me confidence, self-esteem, self pride, a "can do" attitude to accomplish any task given to me and a sense of accomplishment for succeeding. That served me for the rest of my life. It was the greatest mentor I've ever had.

Never served due to a disability. But I grew up in an Air Force town. Mather AFB on one end of town, McClellan AFB on the other(Sadly both are now closed). Travis AFB just about 45 minutes east, Beale 20-30 north. I have friends in all branches. While disciplined, I have been told Air Force Basic is a bit more relaxed than than the other branches. Relaxed being a relative term. I love the USAF!

Can you do a video on Security forces and pararescue? For pararescue, what’s the 2 years of training like? Do you get leave at any point during those 2 years? For security forces, what are the best ways to move up? What are the biggest misconceptions of security forces? Can you do airborne school in SF?
Hey, I used to be SF for 9 years. Since no one answered your question, ill do my best to help you.
Keep in mind, SF primarily focuses on Security. It used to be two separated career fields, one focusing on security and the other focusing on law enforcement. However, in 1997, they were merged. Along with Law Enforcement, every base requires security to protect aircraft and some other AF assets. Keep in mind, security takes precedence over Law Enforcement. However, you'll do plenty of LE if that's what you want to do, but if you get assigned to a "nuke base" like Minot, you most likely will not do LE.
The best way to move up in SF is to knock out your QC for your role asap. I think you got like 60 days upon arriving to your unit. CDCs were removed I think, so don't worry about that. Once you do that, volunteer for patrol, get as much certs you can and when you are knowledgeable and trust worthy, ask to get put on the desk (aka, BDOC). Once you get BDOC experience, you'll move up very fast. That's if you are assigned to a LE unit. If you are assigned at a Security Unit at a nuke base... I have no idea. Never been to one.
For airborne, kind of yes. SF is a VERY versatile career field. Though, I think Airborne is an Army thing. So if you are attached to an Army unit, or close to an Army base and your unit has enough funding to send you to the school, sure... however, you might have to justify for going since budget is VERY limited and if there is no need for you to go, they aint gonna send you. If you are asking about being on planes, then yes. Google "Security forces Ravens" and see if that's what you are looking for. SF Ravens are attached to AMC bases. There is another one similar called SF DAGRE which is an AFSOC thing.
Furthermore, I am not PJ, so if anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but from what I heard that after 6 months of Tech school, you qualify to start taking leave. How that works? I have no idea. But essentially, yes you can take leave during the 2 year pipeline for PJs. But I think you have to do the first 6 months first.

As a fmr ANG SSgt, what AFSC could you see Swayne enlist in, if he decided to serve AF Res or Air Nat'l Guard? It would be an ideal position for him, as his life relates to yours. As a current civ pilot, I don't see him interested being an AF officer, but w/COVID seemingly w/o end, Swayne in a reserve component AF/ANG job would give him a 2nd income & another uniform w/great benefits & status. We both know there's ideal positions 4 him if he choses a minimal commitment in USAFR (or ANG @ his home state) like Illinois where I served 6 yrs, had free BA/MA split education coverage & chances to deploy to exotic/fun locations such as the Pentagon/Andrews/etc (as I volunteered TDY to both & others on temp active duty during summer semesters off college. I just think it'd be a cute combination for him, in the capacity you know one another! ✈ 🛫 🌈 🌎 🌝.

In the air force you can move out of the dorms after 3 years. In the navy I believe you can move out after 4 years. In the army and marine corp you can't move out until E-6. It'll probably take you 8-12 years to make E-6, possibly longer. Crazy stuff.

Hey Sam started to watch videos more and more! I have a question though. I want Security Forces as my mos as this and TACP is really my only interest.. Problem is the Asvab seems to be difficult for me haha. What would you recommend a good routine for studying? Also if SF is in demand what is the likely chance I'll actually get that?
There are some great online study materials for the ASVAB! SF has quite a few slots I believe

i took algebra 1 in middle school. freshman year i had geometry(normal year ended with a c+)then sophomore year i had algebra 2 (the teacher was fired when the year started so no teacher for 7 months), then junior year i had probability and statistics(teacher got cancer so she only taught about 2 months), and now i have pre calc virtual. what im saying is math isnt my strongest field so how do you recommend i study for the asvab ?

I feel F-22 Raptors are far more lethal & classified to US-only use than, say, F-35s that my cousin works on in Lockheed civilian side. Yes F-35s are made in AF, NV, MC variations, but don't have the agility, weapons payload or shear fighter capacity that F-22s have as 5th Gen Fighters. Raptors aren't sold to even our allies, since they're so lethal, but initially designed to replace F-15s/F-18s in the cold war.
How do you get that f22 model in the background?

I was a plumber in the Air Force We took care of where the Air Force personnel lived The one place that was dangerous was I was stationed in Viet Nam in a unit called Red Horse We built Bases it was 554 Red Horse in Phan Rang 1968 1969 in all I enjoyed my time 1967 to 1971

Hopefully one day we’ll get there! You’ll sign a commitment of 12 years if you’re a pilot, but if not, it’s like a 4 year minimum contract

Hey Sam still a little confused on Job selection. How would it differ from let’s say the army when it comes to selecting your job?
It’s very similar. You work with your recruiter and depending on how well you score on your ASVAB in addition to what jobs are available you will know going in what you’re going to do

Hey Sam this may be a dumb idea/question but I’m really curious about it. So I recently been interested in joining the Air Force, but with more research, the more I’d like to go to the Air Force academy. I’m a senior in high school and honestly I didn’t put my best efforts into school. I looked into the academy’s requirements and in order for me to reach them, I’d have to take classes like chemistry and physics. I have a gpa of 3.5. My question is could I go to community college for a year, take those classes, and raise my gpa? Would that be a smart idea? With the intent of applying to the academy and is that allowed?
Yes you can! You just have to be younger than 23 to get into the Academy

Well ... U don't need to go to the AF academy to be able to join the air force. And plus, the academy is for people who has gotten their bachelors degree already.

It all depends on what’s going on in the world and what the mission is as well as what your career field is. For me in public affairs it’s like once every 5 years or so. However, for other career fields you may deploy every 3 years.
AFSC (job) is a big factor on how often you deploy. Deployments can run short (30 days) or long (180 days). It all depends on the needs of the Air Force at that moment in time. Same with the ANG and AFRC.

The Air Force has it's own criminal and counterintelligence investigative agency called AFOSI. The first commander of AFOSI was the Deputy Director of the FBI. So AFOSI's roots are based on what the FBI was and still continues to be. We are eyes on the ground for the USAF and the DoD around the globe. A very small agency that typically works behind the scenes without much notoriety or acknowledgement

I have a question. If you enlist in the Air Force right after high school, and finish BMT, do you still have a chance to become a fighter pilot? I’m a 17 years old senior and planning to go into military service after I graduate.
You absolutely do. There’s been many people who have done that. You just need to earn your college degree through the Air Force (or while you’re a serving) and then you can apply for pilot training.
