Wait a minute. Are pan cars back in again? I miss my RC-12L.

These are Mini-Z/1:28th scale R/C cars. They’re just like the 1:12th scale pan cars, but a lot smaller (6-7 inches in size).

I'm looking forward to getting into mini z racing! How many years of experience do you have to drive that good?

I started Mini Z racing in 9/2007 and won a National Title a month later. Exact 12 months from winning the Nationals, I won a World Title. I spent 4-6 hours a day for 13 months of driving and learning how to tune the car and was an active driver from 2007-2011. I just got back in the Mini Z in December 2022. Total time to get to this level is less than a year and to get to Expert in Mini Z, you need about 4 months but a lot of track time. By that I mean everyday driving with other fast drivers.

RX28. Easy to set up. More driving, less tuning.

Worth the $500 for the kit?

Best to get the $340 RX28 (not RX28K). This way you can run it in slower class all the way to Mod class and be fine in all classes. The SE is 7 grams heavier than RX28 and in slower class, it can sometimes feel a bit lazy. Slower class for me would be our 2500 Lipo class which is spec Rocket 2500KV motor with 13/53 gearing, Blinky ESC. The PN Spec 2500KV class aka Super Stock is not that slow. It's 3/10 faster than our Rocket 2500KV class.
If you only plan to race Mod classes, get the RX28SE. It is an easier car to drive over the RX28 in Mod class.
