    Putting Botulus on Paule's Cafe is a good way to get the safety inspector to shut it down.

    Some fun lore - Broca's Area (referenced on Verbal Plasticity) is a part of the brain that deals with speech production, named after a doctor who noticed patients who had trouble speaking had also suffered injuries to that part of the brain.

    Dude, I love your videos! Thanks for covering this. Played a bit of netrunner and have a few hundred cards but I didn't want to relearn all the cards/art myself. Your detailed description with some lore etc is excellent for getting me into this again! Thanks a mil!

    Man, I'm so excited for System Gateway - the concept of Netrunner is so cool but it's absolutely just not how my brain works. I adore the lore and have tried so hard to learn the game but there's just so many options and so much going on that I haven't been able to grasp it. Really hoping that System Gateway will be the thing that does it for me!

      System Gateway looks to be a huge help getting people into the game - overall simpler card effects on top of a smaller card pool. If you're overwhelmed, and would appreciate a bit of help getting into the game, check out the Green Level Clearance Discord. If you flag yourself as a newer player, it's really easy to get a patient tutor to show you the ropes. The community is incredibly friendly!

    My guy, these vids are amazing. Thank you so much for not only talking strategy, but all the lore and references that make Netrunner such a unique masterpiece of a game! Kudos, likewise, to NISEI for picking up where FFG left off and taking the content above and beyond. Can't wait to get playing again!

    Botulus is my favorite new card. I used to love Knight in Siphon Eddie and this scratches the same itch to reach across and knock down my least favorite piece of ice.
    Feeling inspired to play big rig Shaper again. :)

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  Před 3 lety +1

      The first deck that I had any sort of 'competitive success' with was Siphon Eater MaxX. I have that exact same fondness towards Knight.

  • @anemptyeye
    @anemptyeye Před 3 lety +2

    Cool vid, I loved seeing the history of the viruses. The Anarch(ist)'s Cookbook is my favourite piece of flavour in this set, especially since it can be seen as a foundational document of the hacker movement.
    I have a little bone to pick with the VP / ERH comparison - isn't it a (slight) drawback of the Hotel that you have to spend a click and 4 credits again to re-install the second copy, compared to Plasticity which is just there for the rest of the game (unless they tag you+trash it)? Sure it's a dead draw, but the second Hotel more of an obligation than a live draw, it feels like to me. It's also not the end of the world to have a few dead draws, especially in Loup, and considering you want to pad your hand before facechecking a potential Karuna / Urtica Cipher (sucks that it's odd cost for going into a Diviner).
    I can kind of agree with the overall sentiment if it's like, "You want to run 2-3 anyway so you draw it as soon as possible, and then you're not punished for extra copies," but (I wasn't sure that's exactly what you were saying.) EDIT: i brainfarted and missed where you said exactly that, sorry. I do still the "Loup doesnt mind a few dead cards" sentiment holds (even if ERH is better overall)

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  Před 3 lety +2

      You're totally right that re-installing Earthrises adds up compared to a single Verbal Plasticity! The hope is that you end up saving a lot of clicks with the Earthrises not drawing cards, so that price sort of balances out. No worries about the edit - the few dead cards in Loup is quite alright. I still feel like those dead cards could have been 'not dead' cards, which could still be fed to the Carnivore. But it's Gateway - the card pool is small, and you'll take all the draw you can get.
      I regrettably glazed over the historical importance of the Anarchist's Cookbook, and just sort of explained what it is. I'll try and do a better job making it clear why these references are cool, as opposed to just what the references are. Glad you've been digging the content!

    Thanks for all the insight :-) I don't think that it is normally possible to "Contaminate" your "Fermenter", since it gains 1 virus counter on the start of your turn, except when the Corp purges on the runners turn or other shenanigans with virus counter consumption/movement (e.g. Freedom Khumalo).

      Hey David! I'd recommend hitting up the Green Level Clearance Discord - discord.gg/fSUkWRZspR - It's a fantastic entry point to meet Netrunner players from all around the world. Someone there will no doubt be able to push you in the right direction. NISEI also has a Community Page that has links for many different regions - nisei.net/players/around-the-world/#de - Germany has classically had a really prominent Netrunner scene!

    HI! Sorry im a bit confused. Is android netrunner out of print or not? This is just an expansion or not? Im totally lost. xD This game looks very good (I like the style and the theme and TTCG / CCG as well), but if this is an out of print then how could I play with it? Thaks in advance the answer.

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  Před 2 lety

      Hey Ferenc! While Fantasy Flight Games stopped producing the Android: Netrunner LCG a couple of years ago, the fan-run group NISEI has continued to support the game ever since. They release new cards, run organized play, and a lot of other great stuff. While their cards won't show up on your FLGS' shelves, you can have them professionally printed through services like DriveThruCards, or get access to print-and-play documents. You can find a lot more information at nisei.net/
      Furthermore, if you want to play Netrunner online, check out jinteki.net/ - a community run platform for digital play.
      If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

    Holdup, you can install stuff mid run? 🤯 (With special programs).
    Great content!!!

    • @patrickjsklar8315
      @patrickjsklar8315 Před 3 lety +1

      Yup! Not with the usual basic action to install, of course - that takes a click, and can't happen while you're in the middle of spending another click (the run you're making). But cards like Self-Modifying Code, Simulchip, Paule's Cafe, and so on don't cost clicks to use - and therefore can be triggered in the same action window you'd use to, say, break ice subroutines.
      Corps have similar "ourside of click" abilities - they can rez non-ice cards almost whenever they like, and use their non-click abilities immediately after. That's why cards like Spin Doctor (in System Gateway) are so frustrating for the Runner to deal with

    • @truce11
      @truce11 Před 3 lety

      @@patrickjsklar8315 @metropolegrid Please make a video describing these timing windows! Does Step 4c where the Corp can rez non-ice cards still work when the Runner passes last ice just before approaching server? (I want to say yes). Also, I found when I was teaching; it helped to "talk out" the steps of the timing window to normalize the timing windows. The instant-speed stuff was not practiced when I first learned, so I don't want to mess it up with new players.

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  Před 3 lety +1

      This would be a pretty interesting video to put out. I try and spend some time during the livestreams to ensure that everyone understands the timing windows, because they are pretty nuanced. Regardless, I think we need to wait for NISEI to put out their comprehensive 1.5 rules document before we put anything to tape just yet.

  • @Dexstarslab
    @Dexstarslab Před 3 lety +1

    Do you need any of the older stuff or is Nisei on it’s own?

    • @Skippan
      @Skippan Před 3 lety

      System Gateway is an standalone set, yet it can be mixed with any other product. It's best entry for beginners.

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  Před 3 lety

      Just like Daniel said, System Gateway is specifically made as a standalone entry point into the game. If you want to branch out further than that, Startup is a really cool format that only includes all of the NISEI cards, which are all available through their website - you can have them ordered from professional printers, or pay-what-you-want and print-and-play. I'm a big fan of Startup. The older FFG stuff is pretty hard to find nowadays, so proxies are entirely permitted in organized play. So even if you want to dip into the old FFG stuff, feel free to get them printed out.

    With Botulus - do the hosted tokens get 'used up' or do they stay after breaking subroutines? 🤔

    • @GameOfDroids52
      @GameOfDroids52 Před 2 lety +1

      You spend the virus tokens on botulus to break subroutines; they do not remain. The botulus will gain more each turn though, so you'll be able to get in again in a turn or two.

    • @MetropoleGrid
      @MetropoleGrid  Před 2 lety +1

      Andrew has got you answered there! As a general rule, any time you see bold text like 'hosted power counter:', or 'hosted agenda counter:' preceding an ability, that means you need to spend the power or virus counter to gain the effect. Spending the counter is the cost of using the ability.

    I come back to play after 2 years and sadden to me that fan base design commit the same mistake making cards that made unviable the glacier stereotype, botolus and boomerang are very unfortunate designs in my opinion. Strength of the ices always should be important, in other case you unbalance the economy and make unplayable the expensives ices. I pay 7 or more for a big scary ice and you pass almost free and the strength and type is irrelevant for you.
