Directed and co-written by four-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke, WILDCAT invites the audience to weave in and out of celebrated Southern Gothic writer Flannery O’Connor's mind as she ponders the great questions of her writing: Can scandalous art still serve God? Does suffering precede all greatness? Can illness be a blessing? In 1950, Flannery (Maya Hawke) visits her mother Regina (Laura Linney) in Georgia when she is diagnosed with lupus at twenty-four years old. Struggling with the same disease that took her father’s life when she was a child and desperate to make her mark as a great writer, this crisis pitches her imagination into a feverish exploration of belief. As she dives deeper into her craft, the lines between reality, imagination, and faith begin to blur, allowing Flannery to ultimately come to peace with her situation and heal a strained relationship with her mother.

That’s great!
Congratulations!
I’m looking forward to seeing it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Congrats 🎉🎈😊
Congratulations 🎉
From u.k.
Glad for you!
I’ve been in 5 or six films myself.
Only small productions, I wish my mum or dad
would have been around to see me in them!
Even though I didn’t start acting until I was in my
late 50s!
Take care.
@@madcyril4135 I know the feeling! I just started making a movie so late in life that mine are not here either!
I can’t wait to see this. My grandpas old car is in this movie. He has passed from this realm many years ago but I know he had a hand in getting his old car in this movie.
Oscilloscope has been on a roll this year with the recent release of "Sometimes I Think About Dying" (which has Daisy Ridley in it by the way, which I recommend) and now we have "WILDCAT" releasing soon. The trailer for WILDCAT looks Fantastic and i like the performances from the cast (Maya Hawke, Philip Ettinger, Rafael Casal, Cooper Hoffman, Steve Zahn, Vincent D’Onofrio, Alessandro Nivola, Christine Dye, Willa Fitzgerald, Levon Hawke & Liam Neeson) that are in the trailer. Ethan Hawke is the writer ( Shelby Gaines is also the writer too) and director of the Flannery O'Connor Biopic. I hope we see Oscilloscope continue to pick up more independent titles with mainstream actors or well known actors in it; for theatrical release.
Her incredibly vivid description of a Peacock always amazed me. So, seeing the Peacock's tail in the trailer gave me the chills.
Maya,Ethan,Vincent D'Onofrio... Great Story!Flannery O'Connor was a gem!
O'Connor is my go-to when I feel excessively happy, joyful, or hopeful.
Or would be, if that ever happened.
Flannery said that she saw her novels and short stories as being very hopeful. Many of her readers didn't see what she saw in her work, though, and they took her to be either a nihilist or a misanthrope. She was decidedly neither.
O'Connor is one of the few authors that can comfort me when I'm neck-deep in the tragedy of life. She paints pictures of real hope in the face of real pain.
@@thomasritchie9756 I hear you, very much, about Flannery's writing. If you have never read the novels of Walker Percy, you might like them too. If you're not familiar with him, like Flannery, he was also a Catholic, based in the South, and Flannery loved his first novel, "The Moviegoer." She was right-- it's a masterpiece of philosophically/spiritually-oriented literature. Like O'Connor, Percy's writing is sometimes dark, sometimes funny, but with real hope, as you wrote, in the midst of pain.
I hope they do her justice. I do not believe there was a better short story writer in the last 100 years and there have been some greats-there are equals but none better in the modern age in my opinion. My first journey into the World she created was almost 50 years ago with A Good Man Is Hard To Find-it was a life changing event which fits perfectly into the core of her work. At the heart of all the pieces I have read is her Christian belief that the rejection or acceptance of grace is the fundamental question of a human life. She was able to place this reoccurring theme in brilliant stories made as perfect as diamonds filled with black comedy and satire. If there are more subversive writers, I don’t know them. Plus, it came in the most unlikely of packages-a frail spinster with a thick southern accent who lived a quiet life raising her peacocks. If this film gets one person to read her stories, I applaud the effort. Don’t let the strong Catholic themes throw you off. The most unbelieving of atheists or agnostics can love her work i.e. no less an auteur than John Huston turned her novel Wise Blood into a movie.
Everything about this trailer is stunning. O’Connor’s Catholic faith permeated each and every aspect of her life, from writing deeply convicting stories to carrying the cross of lupus…she is indeed a mystery of a person, and that’s why I love her.
I studied Flannery O' Connor in a class called "Moonlight and Magnolias" at UCLA. It was about Southern writers and culture.
I saw the movie yesterday and it was everything l had hoped it would be. I am a writer in Oregon and have been a devoted O’Connor fan for over 30 years. I offer you folks my respect for your grasp on things and your approach to her story. My thanks as well.
sooooo incredibly excited to see cooper hoffman in this, literally cant wait
THAT'S ME AT 0:33 ON THE LEFT

1:36 - I wonder how awkward everyone on the set felt during the filming of this scene))
This is THE BEST movie I've seen coming up.
Especially as an English Literature graduate.
It’s interesting you say that since all the “professional” critics rate the movie less than flattering. Us “unpaid” critics seem to find it just fine.
Ethan is really hitting his stride...his work in "First Reformed" was stellar...he's making great choices and we're all benefitting from it.
Looking forward to this film and to see Maya...given her parents, I doubt the apple will fall far from the tree with regard to acting skills.
This looks AMAZING.
it really is. saw it last weekend. going back again
FINALLY A TRAILER!!!!!!!! I am so excited! So pumped!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful. Can't wait!!!
This looks amazing.
Ethan Hawke is one of the few famous celebs who has evolved into something really great. Good to see him transition into directing and on top of that he seems like genuinely down to earth guy who just wants to make great art. Much respect!
You’re totally right! I was lucky enough to work on this film as 2nd Assistant Cameraperson and had the best experience. Like you surmised, Ethan really is such an amazing, down to earth dude who just wants to make great art, which he has definitely done with WILDCAT. Cheers!
This looks so good 🤌
Oh, yeah! Sold!
This is a work of art. The scope was a great choice. The fall off is classic anamorphic and the distortion of the seats in the church when she was sitting was great. Wow!!! Hawks has one, both of the Hawkes.i want to see it
Beautiful trailer. Love this company! This was shot in my home state and can’t wait to watch it.
My wife is so excited...this movie is all she's been talking about lately. She bought the books, watched the documentary, and is counting the days until we go to see it.
Fantastic!
I think I could name every story referenced in this trailer. My favorite author I've read her surpassing material over and over.
Looking forward to it, also I'm so happy that Rafael Casal is in this!
I so hope this gets a physical release on Blu-ray.
THIS is how you make a movie about a Southern Gothic novelist.
We just don't make movies like this anymore and it is a shame. This is a film I am looking forward to seeing.
Oh?! The trailer just took me on a journey. Looks really good. 🌸
This trailer made me tear up. I can’t wait to see it!
Had a major crush on Ethan in the mid 90s after Reality Bites and then Before Sunrise (mostly the character Jesse). Glad to see an actor who actually appreciates art for art’s sake. Looking forward to watching. And Maya is beautiful-just like her mother.
This looks wonderful! I have to see it!
phenomenal movie with phenomenal message.
Can't wait . . .
Love Flannery O'Connor, and this looks like a serious effort to do her life and work justice. As a Southerner, I have to say that the accents sound off though; the speech comes off as almost a caricature. If I wasn't from here, then maybe I wouldn't notice.
I think it would be great if Maya Hawke was secured to read the complete stories of Flannery O’Connor for audible.
This Looks, Like; Never Gonna Snow Again, Monday, Mothering Sunday, Let the Sunshine In, Dreamland, Broken Circle Breakdown, Empire of Light, Brimstone, Ain't Them Bodies Saints calibre EXQUISITE.. . Hopefully it'll stack up. 🙏
Looks good…Is Flannery O’Conner public domain now?
Looks phenomenal! Release date?
Looks so intriguing and quirky....and yes....Original!!
Where and when can I see it?
Oh my…
maya looks more like toni collette here
not a fan of nepos but it was a pretty inspired casting, her as Flannery
I miss Milledgeville.
Try “Paris Trout” it was a prize winner and set in Milledgeville .the closest Flannery would allude to it was her story “The Partridge Festival”
@@danielyoung5137 She's buried very close to Marion Stembridge, the killer who inspired Paris Ttout.
Is that Michael J Fox at 1:47 ?
Nevermind... Steven Zahn. Looking at the cast list.
Why does this movie looks like First Reformed?
Looks good. And please, guys- NEVER drive drunk. Over 11,000 die each year. You could be next...stay sober on the road!
The life you save may be your own.
Too many movies with the same name "Wildcat".
The trailer looks like the other dark and depressing movie made in Oklahoma “Osage County.” Descriptors such as “gorgeous” and “stunning” does not synch up with reality.
It is SO HARD to get past the terrible accent that Maya Hawke has in this movie. Why can’t actors do an authentic southern accent without sounding like foghorn leghorn? Sheesh. So bad.
terrible fake accent. either cast an actress who has a southern accent or let the character not have one.
As a Southerner I've rarely been pleased with any actor's southern accent. But it usually doesn't make me not like a movie if everything else is good. My main complaint about movies these days is unnecessary sex scenes. I loved Oppenheimer but hated that sex scene at the hearing.
Maya Hawke became coo coo for coco buffs IRL during the filming of this movie
And you know this how..?
Somebody needs a basic spelling refresher. And some critical thinking.
