      I agree. I don’t know why, but every repair tech training session I’ve ever been to or taught has at least one guy that cant keep a lid on it, adding the most pointless comments and jokes at inappropriate times. At least the trainer here has patience.

    To anyone who found this video out of frustrations over R600 repairs...
    These new compressors have everyone in the industry thinging they need all new tools, new protocols, new hoses... you dont.
    1. The Lokring tool is awful. Terrible product and the connections arent near as reliable as brazed joints. Dont let them scare you into thinking you can't solder.
    2. R600, unlike R134, is butane based which is a very dry (and yes flameable, stay with me) refrigerant that runs through a compressor with mineral oil. Mineral oil is very very sensitive to temperature changes. Its smartest to replace the entire compressor in a sealed system leak because it barely lubricates itself as it is and is super sensitive to air. Air in the system will cause a floating restriction and ruin the windings SO fast. Use copper cutters to remove the old compressor, solder in the new one. No burns / housefires. Not dangerous.
    3. Don't buy all new tools. Seriously save your money. Learn your hoses and the capacity when using R600. Charge by your pressures and dont let air in the system (again these compressors are sensitive). Buy a 20 dollar T valve on Amazon, purge your lines, and TAKE YOUR TIME. You cant whiz through these like you could R134.

    Is $1200 R600a Charging Kit a must have for a technician for the future R600 repairs? $1200 seems excessive for what this kit comes with.
    Can someone recommend a cheaper alternative for r600a repairs?
    Appion Core Removal Tool x2 @50 =$100,
    Kitchen Scale $20 or Mastercool 98202-290 High Precision Charging Scale $102
    Uniweld H2SSM 24" Service Hose x4@20ea=$80
    Mastercool Single Gauge Manifold with 1/4" Ball Valve for R600a x2 @43ea=$86...Unless a regular 4 valves manifold like Fieldpiece SM480V SMAN can be used instead???
    I couldn't find an adapter that connects r600 can to 1/4 hose. Maybe another $50?
    The total comes to around $340 or $420 with Mastercool scale.

    I think its funny how people are so afraid of a tiny amount of pantane. I once dropped and shattered a completely full glass 4L bottle of liquid pentane in my basement when removing it from the freezer. Pentane has a boiling point of 96.7 degrees fahrenheit and is as flammable as butane but it is quite hard to ignite as vapor in the air above 35% humidity. The amounts being worked with in refrigerators is so small that it would likely not be ultra dangerous. Biggest risk would be shapnel from an explosion of a compressed cylinder or a filling cylinder. I've worked with barrels of pentane as well in sub optimal conditions. Just be careful and be safe so you dont have to be afraid.

      Hello! Cyclopentane is the gas inside the insulation polyurethane bubbles to up the U value.. Refrigerant is isobutane (The label R600a tells it's isobutane. It's way more common compared to R600 which is butane..and i believe the video title is just missing the 'a') ..it's true that it's not worth the money on the demo model on the vid, but the small demo model is convenient to train on and haul around to provide the training. When You have a real, more expensive model, maybe from midrange model to high end, it'll become worthwhile and way more sustainable for the owners wallet and for the environment..which we are losing on accelerating level.

    what's the thin refrigerant charging hoses brand?

    • @Sc-db6lv
      @Sc-db6lv Před 3 lety +5

      They are made by Vulkan Lokring. The hoses are smaller in diameter and also much shorter than standard service hoses. Keep in mind the R600a charge is close to 1/3 or 1/2 of what a R134a charge is. If you use standard hoses most of the R600a will be in the hoses and manifold causing system diagnostic issues.
