This is a true story ,This song tells a story of an orphan:
A cable car at a scenic spot in China Guizhou Province crashed in 1999, at that moment a couple used their hands hold up their two and a half years old child, so he was saved, but his parents died. Later, Hanhong adopted that child. she composed the song 《Daybreak》, Dimash covered the song
I will never forget the first time I saw this performance ,I was really in shock ! I relived the loss of my parents and sobbed uncontrollably until I got it out . The song “Daybreak,” performed by Dimash at the 2017 Chinese “I am Singer” competition, is dedicated to the tragic event that occurred in the mountainous province of Guizhou in 1999. The tragedy occurred on the funicular. The parents were able to save their 2.5-year-old child by pushing him out of the cabin, but they themselves died. Having learned about this story, Han adopted the child.
The story was close to Han Hong herself, because she herself lost her father at the age of 6, her mother was a singer, and her grandmother was involved in raising Han.
In this song, Han reflected the story of an orphan, but you can also see the story of the singer herself.

Here is a link to a song he did also in Mandarin called A Thousand Miles, A Common Dream taken from a poem written in the Ming Dynasty I believe. It is so calming and beautifully performed. You just kind of float while listening to it. Not sad, just peaceful and beautiful.

Thank you, Angie! Such an amazing song. Have you heard the story of how the songwriter adopted the child from this historic accident? Dimash touches hearts and souls when he sings. Imagine, he is conveying such emotion in a language he doesn’t speak. I lost my mom unexpectedly when I was 12. 😢

“Daybreak” - At his first concert in Bastau: This song tells the sad story of a Chinese boy (Quon Yan), who along with his family, suffered a cable car accident in Xingyi city in Guizhou province, where many people died, but the boy's parents held him up with their hands and he survived, though the parents died. The song was written and composed by the boy's adoptive mother (Han Hong) and Dimash sang the song for the first time in Mandarin on “The Singer 2017”, but he had a sore throat and sang through injections. The doctor said that if he sang high notes, he would never sing again... He sang! Then he made this wonderful version, already cured, at his show in Bastau!
I'm so sad the one who requested this song didn't tell you there is another version from The Singer competition with the story behind or whoever recommended the video to you didn't seem to give a backstory. That's really a shame. I could cry every time I see this recommendation without context.
In the Singer version he was so sick and had a severe sore throat and fever. He lost his voice the night before his performance of Daybreak. I heard him say in an interview that it was very painful throughout the song, that his throat feels like shredded glass but he didn’t want to disappoint the people who stand behind him and so he pulled himself together and went on stage. He got 5 injections from this doctor in the hospital. And the doctor told him not to sing high notes. You can see how concerned the other competitors were and they suffered with him. They knew he was not doing well and one of them even gave him a very expensive Chinese medicine from his own inventory. The problem was his busy schedule between the performances and he didn’t have enough time to recover. He made very good friends there and many friendships still exist today. After the performance he lost his voice again.
It’s unbelievable how he always manages to convey emotions to such a degree. Though I think in this one particular version the emotions he shows are mostly concern about his voice keeping up with the song and the pain he must have been in doing it.

This song tells a very sad but true story. You really have to watch this with subtitles. It’s really important to know what the song is about. It’s about a cable car accident that happened in China in 1999. The cable car was completely overcrowded. The max capacity of the wagon was 10 but there were crammed 36 people onto it. To make the story short, the car slid back and crashed 100 meters down to the ground. 14 tourists were killed. Including the parents of the boy this song is about. The boy only survived because his father lifted him high to soften the fall. The little one was 2.5 years old at the time. If you want to know more about the story, here is the link

Han Hong, a Chinese singer wrote this song from the surviving boy's point of view when she heard about the crash. Later she adopted the boy.
