How is this an improvisation? Looks like a routine to me.

Obviously the side-by-side bits have some choreographed elements, but the middle part is all lead-and-follow, and even in the side-by-side there is leading going on. Look at Alice's eyes at 4:36, she is clearly watching Thomas intently to see what comes next. At 4:38 she even holds out her arm in case he is going to take it and go back into a connected pattern. Then she realizes he's not and immediately puts her hands up in the air instead. They are just that good.
