    Ty. I probably just do this going to LAX instead of flying to LAX or Uber. I have a question how about luggage? Because I will have a big luggage with me since I'm traveling outside the US😂.

    Live in Portland, my wife and I do road trips across USA, once or twice we do short road trips to California. Thinking of taking the Pacific Surfliner from San Luis Obispo to Oxnard for a round day trip on March 13, the day after the beginning of daylight-saving time. What time do you recommend me to take the train. I tend to stay in Irvine when visiting LA, do you recommend me take it from Irvine Station or from LA Union Station to San Diego for a day trip. San Diego is one my favorite cities in USA.

    • @TwoGayExpats
      @TwoGayExpats  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for sharing! We would take whichever daylight option best fits your schedule. One tip is late afternoon if heading southbound (sitting on right side of train) or northbound (sitting on left side of train) may be in direct sunlight. I believe our trip northbound was midday so no issue enjoying those stunning views!

    Big luggage is okay for business class?

      Thank you! The most current Amtrak policies can be found at www.amtrak.com/carry-on-baggage and we’ve always found the reservations agents at Amtrak most helpful by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL to answer any clarifying questions.
      We’ve only personally taken standard sized luggage as carry-on (similar size to what’s typically allowed on a plane.) The current policy is listed as 2 personal items (Up to 25 lbs. and 14 x 11 x 7 inches each) and 2 carry-on bags (Up to 50 lbs. and 28 x 22 x 14 inches each
Pacific Surfliner: up to 28 x 22 x 11 inches each). Heavier bags above 50 lbs.may require you to repack and, depending upon the origin and destination, there may or may not be checked baggage service. Safe travels!

    are you able to check a suitcase from SD to LA?

    • @TwoGayExpats
      @TwoGayExpats  Před 10 měsíci +1

      We’re not sure as we had carryons. Best to contact Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL as to not provide incorrect info. It’s not like the airlines, they answer very quickly ;)

    How does it work? Is it like check in in a plane?

    • @TwoGayExpats
      @TwoGayExpats  Před 9 měsíci

      You can checkin online or at a kiosk to obtain your boarding pass. Then you simply walk on the train-no security to go through typically. So you can arrive as late as 10-15 minutes before although we recommend more just in case any delays in transit to the station. We find trains so relaxing and no hassle and love city center to city center travel! 🙌

    Is their any checkpoints or border patrol? Or verification for legal documents?

    • @TwoGayExpats
      @TwoGayExpats  Před 10 měsíci

      No, as it’s a domestic route so the conductor just checks your ticket.

    Is it a good idea to buy a round trip tkt?

    • @TwoGayExpats
      @TwoGayExpats  Před 5 měsíci +1

      We find one way tickets on Amtrak to be the most convenient in case we need to make changes; There is typically no difference in price for one-way as with a round-trip ticket. Safe travels!

    Can you take the same train from Old Town?

    • @TwoGayExpats
      @TwoGayExpats  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes, but double check the specific train as not all of them do. Here’s what we found: “Of the 22 weekday Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains operating in San Diego, 18 of them stop at the Old Town Transit Center, though the Surfliner trains operating at Old Town do not offer checked luggage service, and stop at Old Town to board passengers (northbound trains) or detrain passengers (southbound trains) only.”
