I was holidaying in California in October 2023. Great train ride, wish it was longer.

It’s great that the Surfliner service includes a snack in business class and that there is a cafe’ car for sandwiches. Sometime soon, I will be planning a long distance trip to San Diego from the east coast as a result of your video.

I don’t remember any tunnels I don’t think. It mainly goes along the coast near the beaches. Some parts though are closer to city/road traffic so you would see cars going by but I can’t remember any tunnels. Double check with the Amtrak staff and thank you for watching!

Do you need to be at the station earlier for bag checking?

I don’t think so. No earlier than you normally would arrive for a departure. They work very quickly to load the bags on board the train which is great because the seats on the Oceanside of the train are first to fill up.
