20y ago I raced this river several times in a B Class. This video had me sitting on the edge of my seat trying to help them navigate this difficult river. Watching Gimp straight line it made me smile. Excellent Video! Thanks for that.
The gimp and dweeb show for sure.... Very very good!!! Loved the part where the driver indicated to the navi take control of the boat... Priceless. Not that has ever happened to me more than once ;)
So do they have prior knowledge of what route to take? Does the navigator have notes? Or is it all by-the-seat-of-their-pants and hope not drive into blind inlets?
They do pre-run the rivers a few days prior to racing, but the rivers in New Zealand change course all the time, it can be different from hour to hour. Some of the prior running helps, but a lot is just read it by the seat of your pants as they race.

I've boated this river and it is hard enough to navigate at 50kph let alone 150kph.
fkn awesome. haha Dweeb and Gimp are the best there at the end. too funny.
Some big testes required to keep the foot down in some places there.
@ 26:30 the "Dwaines" were hilarious!
Crazy shit. Love it. Wish i could afford one. 💯👍
When do they actually go from idle speed to full speed?
Wow awesome race
Looks dangerous, what’s the bottoms of those boats made of?
What do you do after you go desert racing in the boat to get it back in the water?
+brianbirc hope you are strong enough to push it back in, or have a bunch of guys lift it.
What a ride!
Are they actually running in shallow water?
Holly Taylor yes, only inches deep in some places.
like.. 45mph in a boat feels fast as hell.. I can't imagine this.. and it's in a puddle! Miss the corner.. that's fine just drive over the sand bar..
So, today I learned I could power boat down the street after a stiff rain.
What are the bottom of the hulls made of, are they designed to blast over rocks at 100+kmh??
I would guess an aluminum skid
Pablo HDPE or UHMW plastic skid plates, slides over rocks like ice on ice
Chuck Norris old underware
I mean.. they seem to be doing it.. so I'd say this isn't the first time out in a boat.. so ya..
