I hope this makes developers take HDR on PC more seriously.
Even if the Steam deck is not really dominating the PC market, this will increase the install base quite significantly. Probobly will push some deves over the edge.
And.. well this is basically the bar for any newer device.. and really also screen to pass over
@@matsv201 every new handheld will try to emulate the hdr and beautiful oled and picture quality , which is a good thing imo
@@zhon5311 yupp.. and it will happen. Everyone that dont will be a automatic no buy for basically everyone
Proud owner of a Steam Deck OLED LE now!
Update: I really love the LE but it has 2 stuck pixels on it :(
I just order the 512 OLED model! :D
That thing sold out so fast glad you were able to get one
Congratulations. I got the 512 model because I do not like anti glare on Oled displays. Takes away from some of that Oled goodness. Plus if you put a screen protector on the anti glare it will negate some of the anti glare. I can see why some like it but I don’t have any issues with gloss.
I got one too!( OLED LE) Cheers mates!
same here
You sir a legend. Your review is like David Attenborough talking about wildlife. Such a calm voice
Im the opposite. Im glad Valve is making a mid revision. It goes to show any new parts that can be added over time to make or better for a refresher is a good thing. Instead of being stuck too long with old tech like nintendo.
Yeah people are opposing innovation and it baffles me..
I like the huge amount of additions Valve put time into in this revised version. They could have just upgraded the screen and called it a day. How unexciting would that have been compared to what we are getting. Keep up the good effort, Valve!
Would suggest to those people complaining: Buy what you need/want when it satisfies those needs/wants. Then you don't have to worry about what comes next, because you aren't buying into future promises and expectations. Which is setting you up to being disappointed.
your messages sound like "stop being poor". people don't want to buy a device just to see the maker stop supporting it in a year in favor of a new revision. glad Valve did the opposite keeping the core of the device the same.
Nintendo are lazy and riding off their brand name. I would have probably bought a Switch by now if Nintendo actually updated the hardware properly or done a big competitive price drop over time.
"lazy", it's still selling well, why on earth would they drop the price? Look at the sale numbers man @@skycloud4802
Well i gues best comentary was Steam pulled nintendo,.. so you made 2 year refresh, and i dont see NEW deck going out whittin 3 years. so in the end it will be 4-6 year deck shelf live. and its fine i gues.
The argument of the Deck vs Ally vs Legion for me is simple. I want the Steam Deck to play games when I'm mobile / not home / not at my office / not around a computer.
When I want power - I play on my gaming rig at home, or my gaming laptop at work. Any other time I'm more than happy to sacrifice performance for longevity of play.
Now what I think would be really nice is if they did double the performance of the deck but gave you the option to run it under-clocked / de-tuned by 50%. So when plugged in it could be a beast, but when mobile it could still last a long time on battery. But I know what people would do - they would crank it to the max and complain about only getting 45 minutes of playtime.
That is what the ROG Ally has chosen to do and the battery in that is 40 Wh. Doubt Valve could fit 50 Wh in the Steam Deck if they had to include a larger cooler for the CPU. So battery life would be similar to the Ally.
@@noer0205 the ally doesn’t perform as well as the deck at 15 watts in my testing. I had the Ally for a bit but returned it. It’s nice but I preferred the steam deck experience.
@@MikeDQB my point exactly. Valve cannot just throw in a chip with twice the performance and underclock it to lower power levels, like you suggest. That is almost exactly what the ROG is, and it proves that the detuned chip will not perform as efficiently at those reduced power levels. You cannot have both, man.
Edit: "can" to "cannot"
Well the Legion Go, out the box unoptimized, just about does.
So, that speaks to me because it’s not far behind at 15 watts in both performance and battery 🔋, so, it’s just a matter of additional tweaking to narrow that gap further so that yes, when on the move you can have reduced battery anxiety while offering in addition, the ability to go much further in performance as an OPTION by indeed tethering to a wall, being much less cumbersome than a laptop or definitely desktop!
The Go is nice, I just wish Windows was better on mobile devices.@@rwiley71483
valve said vrr didn't happen because the display is MIPI not EDP.
maybe we'll get another upgrade if they can get a vrr panel for SD
So funny to see how giddy Richard gets when he talks about the OLED. Probably the main reason I got the LE. Thanks a lot Rich 😂
Steam Deck vs ROG Ally isn't even a question for me. SteamOS is just far less janky. I don't expect my handheld experiences to be top of the line (and if I wanted that, I could just stream from my gaming PC to my Deck), but Windows is just a mess on handhelds right now. Hell even my gaming PC has a bug with the Nighttime mode in W10, where it will save the settings of nighttime mode, but the bar is always at 100%. I hate Windows and it's jankiness.
SteamOS is only great when playing games directly from your Steam library. However, when it comes to playing games from other sources (ie. Epic, GoG, Ubisoft), trying to run older games or any game that requires you going to desktop, then you'll soon find out that you frustratingly have to jump through a myriad of hoops in order to get those games even working. Far more so than with Windows, where it's a breeze in comparision. And I'm not even going to get into the amount of effort needed in order to get some Apps working on Steam OS (if you can at all).
SteamOS is far away from being perfect and can be equally as "Janky", dependant on what you are doing
@@fafski1199 Windows is god awful
@@jaimiepotts7638 Again, it depends on what you are doing. There is currently no OS out there that is 100% perfect at everything, all have their pros and cons, along with thier strengths and weaknesses.
Windows for all it's flaws is second to none, whenever it comes to software, hardware and driver support. As for gaming, again show me any OS that has anywhere close to the amount of support or the vast back library support that Windows has.
If you are looking for game compatibility and for the shear amount of games that are supported by an OS, then you simply can't beat Windows, try as you might.
Waiting for mine to get delivered here across the pond got the 1TB one very happy this exists it feels like a dream
Just ordered the 512GB OLED. Did want the 1TB but want the full OLED experience that the anti-glare screen seems, by all accounts, to dim slightly. Happy to upgrade from my original Steam Deck even though it's only just over a year old as it has become my main (exclusive actually) way to play games. I've not played my PS5 since I got my Deck!
The best part of the steamdeck, and the main reason you'd maybe choose to use it over a gaming pc even if you're sitting at your desk.
Is instant suspend and resume.
I can pop into a game for 5 minutes ever hour, as a break from work or some other task. Not something any gaming pc or windows handheld can do.
It doesn't exactly take ages to boot up a game and load the last saved game in most titles, when running off a SSD these days. 20- 30 seconds max maybe, if your PC was on standby and you skip over the intro titles. It's not like in the past, where it would take you 3 minutes just to boot up the game.
@@fafski1199 it's enough of a barrier for my adhd brain that i play about 5x as much as i used to now that i have the instant resume feature.
windows pc isn't my daily os either
so i have to swap keyboards and change monitor inputs
@@fafski1199try doing that in Forza. You'll be spending 2 minutes watching a loading screen every time 😂
I was able to successfully get my order to go through. It wasn't easy though, it took 39 minutes of trying.
Could of sold you mine mint launch 256gb Deck for $380 with a steam library shared account with over 400 games.
I bought limited edition 4 hours after release not sure if still in stock
Anyone noticed any differences with Cryo Utilities on the OLED?? Cant wait for my 1tb model to arrive 🙂
I got one of the limited edition decks today!
It's annoying that new games look worse than older games but are far more graphically demanding. Developers really suck at optimizing their games.
Most modern-day AAA games in general suck azz. I only stick with indies and emulators of classic old video game consoles(before PS4) these says.
This. Literally if the game is not using Unreal or some other engine that had a recent shit storm, games just run like ass or you end up like cod and take up all full quarter of your 1TB drive lol something has to give at this point
Honestly even on top tier pcs you have issues with games. I got a 7900xtx and some games still need tweaking because they look like shit, same thing with my 4080 laptop.
But I’ve been around long enough to not really care about the graphics anymore, as long the game don’t tear and the gameplay is smooth and engrossing, you forget about the graphics.
The Steam deck OLED fucks. Really hard
I ordered the 512 for the glossy screen. If I use the DBrand screen protector, will it still look good?
I've never used a screen protector on anything, just look after your devices and you'll be fine. A screen protector can make something look tatty quite quickly as it can pick up small marks the actual screen would resist, especially if not applied perfectly.
It's not perfect but my son wants a PC for gaming for xmas. Now way I am going to buy him that but this is probably good enough not to mention all the Steam games I already have. I think it has great value when it comes down to it. Excited... no system right now is perfect.
I Love the Steam Deck overall but I switched to the Rog Ally because it just has better performance capabilities. Especially at 18-30 watt. Yes the user experience isnt as good outside of gaming.
But playing Elden Rin on 50-60 FPS, or Hogwarts Legacy at 45-60 FPS, even Remnant 2 at 45-60FPS at better setting aswell makes such a difference to playing in the low 30s.
The only thing thats completely ass about it is Asus firmware updates, I hate them and avoid them unless I read up on it and its a good upgrade, but even then I hate them. Other than that its not so hard to start it and press the game shortcut of the game I want to play and play for a few hours.
Yes the initial setup is a bit of a pain and disabling memory core and stuff like that but its a one time thing and in the end you will play your games with much better performance.
I guess it depends a lot on how you travel, I spend a lot of time on trains and they 99% of the time have a power outlet next to the seat so the battery thing isnt too much of an issue. I can see accepting the downgrade in performance of the Deck to be able to play for twice as long if you cant easily recharge it. But even then 2 hours or so game time if you travel will still have you needing to recharge at least once or twice so neither is perfectly portable really in that sense.
Wonder how great streaming shows and movies on this will be.
Just got my 1TB ordered :)
Same!

Wish I could natively play Genshin Impact and Honkai Rail Star on the OLED display of the Steam Deck.

I'd love to know if the Steam Deck OLED suffers from the same green tint and discoloration as the Switch OLED does at lower levels of brightness. I haven't seen anyone cover this topic as of now but it would be pretty important to know. Don't want to play display lottery with a device that has long delivery times and costs upwards of 500 dollars.
i suppose at least unlike the Switch, you'll be able to calibrate the colour space & tint manually on the deck.

nice screen but i'm waiting on deck2
I bought a 512gb oled model. Probably should not have because i have a upgraded deckhd lcd deck already, but the screen looks to good.
That's exactly why I didn't buy the original steam deck back then, lcd is horrendous after you tried even ips, after oled even more, so I just waited and then the asus rog ally almost bought me because it haves an ips that just destroys lcd, but then the Lenovo legion go that had even bigger screen that asus so I was soooo convinced about the legion go until this came out of nothing with OLED, so now I'm decided because I have the switch oled and after oled nothing can compare to it, so I don't care the Lenovo one being more powerful, steam deck oled all day
@@Qghsts
Well in a year you will be playing games in 720p bc steam deck won't be able even handle games in it's native res you should of went with either Asus or Lenovo. The screen on both have no light bleed like the lcd on the og deck that light bleed on the og deck is horrendous.
720p hdr looks ass
@@mosthated8848 assuming is for idiots, I have my main pc with a 27 at 1440p, if I want to play rdr2 I'm clearly not using the deck for it because even if the Lenovo haves the biggest screen it doesn't compare to a real monitor, this is just for games that are more casual feeling that I won't have the mood to play for when im using my desktop but the mood to just be chilling in the coach
For me the vrr of the Ally does not matter nearly as much as the oled of the steam deck.
Most of the time on either device id be limiting the display at 40 or 45 or running at the full 120 or 90 in less demanding games.
At max fps frame drops wont matter too much and the ally does not support vrr below 48hz. So for the demanding games where id need vrr i wouldnt be able to reach the fps necessary to take advantage of it. For less demanding games id prefer 90fps on an oled over 120.
I just ordered the 512 OLED model! :D

The delivery time just increase for new orders..
Same. I cannot wait to play zelda on that screen. Hopefully there will be an hdr mod available.
Me too! I was going for the limited edition. When that failed I was going for the 1 TB. When that failed I tried for the 512 GB, and after some struggle it finally went through. I'm low-key happy as I hear the OLED looks particularly sharp through the glossy glass, as opposed to the etched.

really sucks for Valve that their customers now hatin them for making a better product lol like heck, I would welcome that all companies were even able to release a better product than their old, especially in gaming thats a rarity.
It's because ppl are bad at having some patience and need to buy the new thing now, now, now, instead of having common knowledge that a refresh or a new model will come down the line within the next few years.
Instead they but it, then when a new model comes out, they put the blame on them, instead of their own decision to purchase.
@@dirge7459 I don't completely agree, you can't foresee the future. A more or less minor refresh like this is very unusual and unexpected. Also if you want to play and can afford it, then do it now, don't wait years till there's better hardware or games come out, you could have no time by then anymore or be dead or something.
@@DasJev No we cannot see the future, but it has become more common knowledge these days that devices get refreshes and iterations released over the span of 2-3 years for mobile devices.
Nintendo is the only player in the mobile market sector that is sticking with the console lifespan mentality rule, while everyone else has their refreshes and sequel products like any other mobile device would do.
Even Valve seems to be following the market's way of doing things, instead of strict home console rules of 6-7yr lifespans before getting a sequel product.
I would say for those who do not own one to buy the OLED model, and for those that currently own an existing OG model to simply wait another year or two till the Deck 2 comes out (Valve said the next model is up to 2-3yrs away anyway).
People just need to stop instilling themselves with buyers remorse, especially in situations like this.
@@dirge7459if those people didn't buy the first model, valve wouldn't even have released another one. they did it because of the first sd success. so even if they are mad because some are born that way, you can thanks them at the same time so you can have improved system. same goes for everything.
@@chuck25 Yes, and this is why they are called "early adopters".
In any industry this happens in, they will be called as such, and they get the benefit of having something before anyone else does, and that's really all they get from being an early adopter.
People just need to learn what being an early adopter means, instead of just screaming into the void that is any industry and how they operate.
I feel like i fiddle with the Steamdeck more than any Windows device but i actually enjoy trying to get stuff to work in SteamOS.

Will games run better than the rog ally? I might want the steam deck but I heard it's weak
I can run Lies Of P 1080p no fsr at medium settings and, 60fps with vrr. Also using 15 watts with my steam deck at 800p low it still can't get 60fps. I have to lock it to 40fps. That goes for almost every game plus Arch Linux is ass for gaming. As much as folks grib about windows it's still much easier to deal with.
All of the Z1 Extreme handhelds while at a higher wattage will put out anywhere from 25% to 50% more performance in most games. In several of the slew of demanding AAA titles that we've seen come along this year, that extra bump from the Z1 handhelds has made the difference between several games being still playable on them, while being barely even playable on the Steam Deck. Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 are all recent prime examples, where the Steam Deck seriously struggles and will often put out lengthy dips down into the low 20's at times, while the Z1 Extreme handhelds can pretty much hold a constant 30fps+, while using the same settings. Unfortunately that's likely going to be the same story from now on, until the Steam Deck 2 sees daylight.
Don't get me wrong the Steam Deck is great when it comes to most games. However, don't expect too much from it, especially when it comes to highly demanding AAA titles.
@@mosthated8848 I have the rog ally. And personally I think it's perfect. I never gamed on a PC and now I am going to play valorant, csgo, and a boxing game called undisputed. @@fafski1199this is why you stream from your pc with the better wifi chip than even the ally. I’ll be playing cyberpunk with HDR leveraging my 4090. Now the better battery comes into play making it be able to play a fuck load longer and have it look better.
ROG Ally definitely has substantially better performance, but it's not quite as seamless of an experience, and if I recall does not have the little conveniences that the Steam Deck has like the sleep feature.
If you got the money and are looking to play new (2022 onwards) AAA titles I'd definitely get the Ally, but if you have a AAA-capable PC already and want something to take on the go and/or play older or less demanding games, the savings from getting a Steam Deck is worth it.
The screen change instantly turned me from a dismissive critic of the deck to an owner of the limited edition.
I don’t want to sit all day and be stuck playing games in my room. Then Valve comes up with the Steam Deck and it’s got me out of the house and even when I’m not playing on it everyday, I don’t have to choose now between being at home and being able to play (even if I don’t) or going out and not being able to play if I get bored at some point in the day (watching CZcams then instead). But I never liked the LCD display on my Steam Deck and now that is also resolved!
Man, an OLED with 1000 nits of brightness, like Rich said it’s an LG OLED TV on the go. That reason alone puts the competition (even with better hardware) out of my sight. The only thing I wish is better performance of course. Well we will have to wait maybe 1.5 to 2 years for a Steam Deck 2, possibly with RDNA4 or maybe the new upcoming ARM SoC from NVIDIA. How great would that be, being able to play RTX „path traced“ games on the go without cloud game streaming. Of course not in 4K, who needs that resolution on a handheld. 720p/800p is perfectly fine for me, I guess Valve will push the display to 1600p and make use of perfect 1:1 pixel scaling from 800p, so making the best use of the hardware instead of throwing most of the power away on resolution.
RDNA4 is a ways off as, from what little I've seen, Zen5 is gonna have RDNA3.5
Simply streaming from a good gaming pc to a device like logitech g cloud is better.

Same benefits as long as the FPS divides evenly, so 45 and 30FPS for a 90Hz screen

i 100% agree @@zanderman2009
You know there's already a version of the Switch with an OLED screen which has been out a few years? If there's a Switch 2 in development I highly doubt they'd go back to LCD.
While steam deck is lower in performance, the fact that steamos is better support wise and games have better mobility support and longer battery life without making it look like a huge brick makes it worth it. Aya neo air while it has oled battery life is an hour
the oled model is only to get people who didn't have one get 1 & make people upgrade they will come out with SD 2 with removeable batteries
I'm glad this released, I'm a primarily PS5 player that has a portal also. I have always wanted to dabble with the steam deck and I was able to pick up an LCD one fairly cheap (256gb) and I have to say I'm enjoying it. I can well see myself upgrading to an OLED once I've built up a competent steam library or maybe after a year.
What if Valve made a rosetta layer for linux? and run on qualcomm chips? This could get us steamdeck 2 performance sooner
We would lose more in the translation than we would gain. Maybe ARM is the future, but it's not the present... For PC gaming at least.
Valve is following the Nintendo playbook, now their next move is to deny the existence of a new product for the next 5+ years.
Timeline is condensed though. Switch Oled wasn't released till four years into the lifecycle of that console. This came about two years in Steam Deck.
GeForce now makes the steam deck the king by a landslide. I can play DD2 at max settings using only 20% gpu and cpu

It also has no trouble running x86 operating systems, apps and games with 3D acceleration using 86Box PC emulation software. It is seriously impressive. The only caveat is 86Box doesn’t support modern versions of Windows such as Windows 11, so I use it for emulating vintage x86 operating systems.

Glossy or matte...
Glossy all day when it comes to Oled. Having matte on Oled looks just not the same depth or clarity no matter how you slice it. I wish that it was more of an option rather than on specific devices because I would’ve liked to get the Limited edition model.
Glossy is my preference for sure.
The lack of VRR makes it a hard sell. I've been using VRR in some form for half a decade and going back to a non-vrr capable device is always such a downer. Being able to just dial in your settings so they get above your VRR minimum and forgetting about it is transformative to me personally. It's so much nicer than fiddling in the menu's trying to nail a specific FPS target to keep the game above your vsync or just having to deal with screen tearing. I don't wanna go back ;p
It's such a cool time for handhelds so there is options with vrr aswell.
It may come later in a firmware update, as Sony did with the PS5 months after its release. VRR is a tricky one to get right as it can sometimes exhibit anomalies such as screen flickering, so maybe they want to get it right before rolling it out. Will have to wait and see.

Sounds like there was a massive rush a couple of weeks ago! I also ordered a 512GB model last week with no trouble and it arrived in a few days - Valve appear to be managing demand well considering the time of year, I was slightly concerned they may sell out quickly but stock seems good.
People are still going with the ally or GO device because the SD can’t get 60 fps. Power is not there.
Lmao yeah that's not true at all
Instantly this OLED at same price makes Sony’s PS Portal seem overpriced and already somewhat obsolete the day it launched.
PS Portal makes PS Portal an obsolete product. It was a horrible idea from the start as it is a niche product that doesn't even do it's niche well
Steam Deck OLED 👀 PS Portal
There is one very annoying thing with the Steam Deck though and that's FINDING the save data for non-Steam games, which can be a real pain compared to how things would normally function on Windows. Its not as easy as just doing a simple search for the save file.
Not even in the ball park. The rog ally’s screen still looks better, is more color accurate, has vrr for hyper smooth gameplay. Also plays all games over 15fps higher.
I like that it has better performance in games, but the screen definitely isn't better than the OLED in the new steam deck models.
John is such a boomer.
To say the original lcd screen is bad is just ridiculous. I’ve found it to be absolutely fine and with the screen vibrancy decky loader plug in it looked great. Blokes just being a total nerd trying to make out its poor. My Oled comes tomorrow and I’m sure the screen will be a big upgrade but the original was in no way poor.
ROG Ally is more powerful and has a proper joystick design and faster screen.
Wait till you see the non-etched screen on the 512 GB OLED Deck. Just wait :)
17:45 .... My biggest grievance, the only one in fact, is that Valve launched this whilst still selling the LCD model and slashing the price of the LCD model. Leaving existing owners to take a double hit to the resale value of the device, so if they want to upgrade they have to base their asking price based on the revised new price. To me, that's a bit of a kick in the teeth that was entirely avoidable by simply selling their existing LCD stock first.
In short, instead of taking a 100 dollar/euro hit I have to take a 200 dollar/euro hit. Thanks Valve !
So they should instead keep the old prices for the LCD models?

Tbh 720p oled was my dream, would be perfect for older games, movies and anime, but I wish it had Windows because you can only play games on it
There are sooo many windows handhelds available. And there have been for years...
Did you buy one of those?
The large part of the reason why the Steam Deck is much more popular is because it has SteamOS instead!
Was this really needed though I don’t believe anyone was asking for this. Power and performance pretty much the same
Very slight performance bump, but the real focus here is the display and battery life. Those were the main pain-points with the LCD Deck, and they've been addressed beautifully.
Vibrant Deck got the job done for the lack of colors, I guess an extra hour battery life maybe worth it for some @@The8bitbeard
Holy cow Control low-med looks TERRIBLE.. 😬
no
The footage is scaled up to a computer screen. It will look comparatively much better on the 7-7.5in screen of the Steam Deck.
Windows is a great experience on my rog ally and people forget you can buy add on battery packs I have one with a lead running out of my backpack into the ROG ally and can play starfield for around 3 hours which is plenty enough for me. Also I have a gaming PC but still mostly use the ROG ally at home since I bought it because it is that good. imo. I have 2 steamdecks I am gonna put on ebay and buy the steamdeck OLED or maybe Legion GO haven't decided. Probably the steamdeck OLED. I never had to put a keyboard and mouse on my ROG ally the touchscreen windows experience has been. fine. People are saying these things who don'rtt even own one by there own admission. lol
Exactly, I love my Ally I have all 3 just got the Legion go last week cause I wanted a bigger screen but, the software is shit right now. I'll give until January when my return windows is about to close. I have a launch Steam Deck it got put to the side once I got the Ally the sound stage and, the vrr screen playing most games at above 60fps is night, and, day could not go back to my steam deck. Plus I hate using Linux for gaming haven't had one issue with windows gaming even on my 4090 gaming desk or 2080ti desktop windows gaming has been fine for me.
@@mosthated8848 I have found the deck is a bit smoother with navigation and with UI. I love my Ally, but I use my deck more because of the battery life out and about or when I fly. Comparing a 4090 or 2080ti and saying you have not had issues is not fair. I have a 4090 and had a 2080ti. When you are buying the Rolls of GPUs you should never have an issue. I have had issues. Older games can be a pain in the neck on windows at times.
I take my Steam Deck nearly everywhere. I use it in the living room, outdoors in broad daylight, in hotels and conference rooms, bars and clubs... all sorts of lighting conditions. The display is bright enough to see what I'm playing and that suffices. I simply do not have the opportunity to appreciate the visual fidelity of a tiny 7" OLED display in all of those conditions, AND NEITHER DO MOST EVERYONE. Saying the LCD display is "bad" is pure snobbery.
Legion Go is better
I disagree to an extent because when people spend $700.00 on a handheld gaming product, they're not expecting a massive upgrade a year and a half later. Most could've waited. I definitely could've waited. Remember for many of us it took 3 months or more to receive our Steamdeck. I'm happy for the new consumers because they are getting a fantastic handheld console. I truly am. The Deck is really cool. I personally feel jaded and not happy with Valve's communication about the original Deck's lifespan. I know some will disagree with me but this is how I feel.
Laptops come out with new models every year. I don't see how this is any different. Valve should be releasing new versions as they are able to improve components of the deck while keeping the cost to the consumer the same.
Yeah, Valve really hided their true intentions when talking about revisions... not cool.
Don't have one yet, but totally see that
This is why I bought the Legion instead, way bigger display and hardware to get the top-notch performance it will produce
Nope I'm also pissed. I bought og deck aswell they could gave us early adopters a way to trade in our launch deck for few bucks off the oled ones.
@@blastu2fool Yep, I think if I was in the market for a new PC handheld, I'd sooner opt for the Legion Go as well. The Steam Deck hasn't really held up very well at all during the recent slew of demanding games this year, while the Z1 Extreme handhelds have all held up fairly well.
Yep, the battery life is more of an issue on the Legion Go, however I wouldn't class it as being stellar on the Steam Deck either. Plus, you can always use a power bank, if you are travelling anywhere where there isn't a mains/USB socket nearby. Either that or just play Indie, emulated or older titles at lower wattages, in that situation.
Its not, but ok for you! You know Legion go and of course Rog Ally are way better...
Faster, yes, but "better" is subjective. They achieve that extra performance by brute forcing it with more wattage. Worst-case battery life on the Ally is only 40 minutes. On Deck OLED is about 2.5-3 hours. Not to mention at lower TDP the Deck actually outperforms it.
Actually, with the latest bois, the Ally is impressive at 15 watts. I'm getting an extra 30 to 45 mins in most games. With more tweaking Asus might even get it dialed in even more in the future. Right now the Rog Ally is the clear winner once Lenovo gets its software outta beta that one will be the clear winner. Until a newer chipset is out.
Worst purchase experience of my
Life ! Specially with steam guard enabled every failed purchase required a new code in my email box ffs 🤦♂️ got one in the end, I love the 1tb edition but I’ll prob be able to get a case that’s exactly the same as the limited edition for cheaper 😂❤
I dont understand the steamdeck fever of the channel. Its actually significantly underpowered vs many other handhelds at this point. Also so much emphasis on the screen when competitors like Rog Ally have VRR
" Rog Ally have VRR" You dont get the point of steam deck being the king at actually being a portable device. The only reason you would use ally or legion as better device is to be plugged in all the time to play at high settings, which is like downgrade of actually having laptop or desktop pc.
@@doroza2lol and here is me sitting here right now enjoying actually playing my Ally at low TDP right now unplugged. I dont hate steamdeck at all but I also do not understand why there is such fanboyishness about it
@@azalith8645 Nothing wrong with that, and since your Ally is running Windows there are a few games that don't play well on Linux that you can enjoy, like Fortnite, Destiny 2 and COD. I'm a Deck fan, and I would personally recommend these Windows handhelds to someone who wants to play those games, as otherwise they would be disappointed.
What you're seeing is a counter-attack to a weird negativity campaign against the Steam Deck, which honestly I think is mostly just trolling. A loud minority of people are spreading FUD regarding the Deck, and fans are responding in kind.
Enjoy your Ally!
@@The8bitbeard thanks. The oled deck seems nice. I always slip into FOMO for tech easilly. However I think culturally there is the opposite of negativity to Deck generally and I feel like a lot of the typical positive comments made about it just arent true. Like unless you are happy to do what Valve really wants and just be tied to their store, you're going to have to do tweaking in linux and its very limiting.
Value dropped off a Unit and, a decent check to shill for them. I have all 3 pc handhelds with maybe returning the Legion go if they don't release a patch for the dead zones but, I use the rog ally more than any of them but, rather play on a 8.8ich screen locking the frames to 60fps on the Legion is fine for me but, having the vrr on the rog is also awesome as long as the frames don't drop to 30fps my gaming experience is fine.
Rog is the clear winner at the moment.
Steam deck is not a PC handheld. It's a Steam handheld.
Its not a pc so can we not call it that
how is it not a pc
My AOKZOE A1 Pro with a 7840U, 64GB of RAM (16GB allocated for VRAM), 4TB SSD, & 8” 1200p display is superior in every respect to my Steam Deck.
My Steam Deck has gathered dust since I received the A1 Pro.
There is no material change to the ‘new’ Steam Deck which changes this equation.
Cool. Nice device, but you also paid over a grand for it, and with a 28 watt TDP you'll get a worst case scenario battery life of about an hour and a half. The Steam Deck can double that. Plus Valve has good reason to support the device for years to come, while the Chinese company you bought that from has zero incentive to continue support beyond the initial sale.
But I'm not crapping on the A1 Pro. It IS a nice device, and I sincerely hope it gives you a long time of enjoyment.
paid by Valve
* *Laughs in higher frames on my Legion Go* *
FACTS 💯 💯 💯! These “reviewers” are paid shills, no doubt!
I'm kind of confused. Why are people saying that the Steam Deck OLED is the far best PC handheld? I mean yeah, it's a great device and the interface is wonderful as well, but there are many other devices out there that are more powerful than the Steam Deck and feel better in the hands (in my opinion.) I own the Rog Ally, Steam Deck OLED and the Legion Go. So far, The Ally is my favorite. When it first came out, it wasn't the best and even though my micro SD slot died the other day, I still enjoy it more than the Steam Deck. Also, he said amazing acoustics. The Rog Ally again beats the Steam Deck in this as well. Again, I love my Steam Deck, but I've drifted back to my Ally over and over again the past couple weeks. The reason I'm not saying anything about the Legion Go, I don't like it and it's not my cup of tea.
Dude said “By far the best pc handheld” CAP! DF must have stock in valve…can’t trust em
It is. Legion and Ally arent real Handhelds. They dont even have the stop and go feature, their battery is not as good, are bigger. They are way more powerful but for portable play? I wouldnt want them. On the couch in the house near a power outlet they would be amazing
Wow .... Digital foundry just like to crap all over things the majority liked ... Was the steamdecks screen and battery really that bad ? Shill for value the Steam deck is the weaker outta the 3 mainstream pc handheld consoles. Asus Rog Ally is the clear winner. Once lenovo gets the software kinks worked out on the Legion go that one will be the clear winner until a new chip set is released.
Somebody is getting a kickback from Valve... My Rog Ally is leagues better than a Steam Deck. Outside of having a Steam Library, you can't do shit else with it. Hence why I sold mine.

Steam Deck 2.0 better have a 16:9 screen. Valve went weirdo 16:10 with the deck because the tablet screen was cheap for them to buy. Please bring it back to the widely accepted standard.
