DIALOGUE @ NATION NEXT with JEETENDRA: Ahead of his charitable programme 'Celebrating Jeetendra,' at Mankapur Sports Stadium, Nagpur, (On January 12, 2019), Bollywood's yesteryear superstar and TV and Film Producer Jeetendra speaks to NATION NEXT about his film career, turnarounds in his life and his friendship with Rajesh Khanna and Sridevi. In this 'tell-all' interview, while Jeetendra tells why he won't ever write his autobiography, he speaks about how he couldn't be a part of the growing-up years of his children Tusshar Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor.
As Jeetendra speaks about his transformation from being ‘Jewellery Supplier Ravi Kapoor' to becoming the ‘Bollywood star Jeetendra,' he also reveals how he overcame his vices like drinking, smoking and gambling in one day!

I always found Jeetu to be an endearing personality. I was a 12yo and there was a shooting going on outside our school entrance, during the PT period. As I neared to spot where the shot was being canned, I quickly recognized that the movie star was Jeetendra. They had just shown the movie 'Kinara' that previous Sunday on Doordarshan, as was the custom in those days. Such was his aura during his youth, that everyone kept starring at him. He gave the shot, which was a happy scene and was getting ready of the next shot & he had to change his costume for this next scene. It was something like he was coming to the same spot to pick up his kid from school, further down during the story & this time, it was a sad scene. There were no vanity vans then & they realized that if they wait any further, the final school bell at 4pm would go off and there will a huge crowd of kids coming out of the school to go home. Jeetu, just told the director to have 4 people hold some cloth & he will change right there. Immediately, right there in the middle of school entrance. he changed into another suit and shirt. It was a hot & humid day. He had not eaten & was hungry. He asked somebody to get some curd (yogurt) & there he was rehearsing his dialogue with the AD, eating yogurt in between and getting ready for the next shot, with make up man giving final touch up on face etc. All within minutes. There was no fuss nothing. Professionally, he for sure was dedicated & that is the fact I saw at that young age.

You never had a chance and yet you shone like a star in films like Aasha, Dharam Veer, Arpan, Farz aur Kanoon, Sanjog, Mehandi Rang Laayegi, Khudgarz, Justice Chaudry, Deedar e Yaar, Apnapan, Jay Vijay, Judaai, Nishan, Dharam Kanta, Jeeo aur Jeene Do...to name just a few of your fabulous films that we enjoyed immensely during the 70's and 80's. It's a great shame you couldn't make a film with Amitabh. Dostana or Naseeb would have been incredible with you and him, chalo, never mind.

After his appearance, his first sentence grasp me due to his respected words to his host and then his honest and humble words made me admire him. Wah wah. Who just discloses the basic human insecurities like that? No actors I know today. Amazing. I am sure like all of us he made tons of mistakes too. But he made me his fan without following his movies. Nice to hear the philosophy of hard work then Naseeb, inshallah and etc. After all these years he has turned out to be Okay (and just Ok to be an human takes a lot of experience in life)
