Genosuke (Tadanobu Asano) dispatches a rival gang leader in cold blood as his employers watch from nearby.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Beat Takeshi Kitano directs and plays the title role in this tribute to the wildly popular "blind swordsman" of Japanese cinema who was the hero of more than 20 movies and a television series from the early '60s to the late '80s. In Kitano's version, Zatôichi wanders into a town harassed by criminal gangs, and helps two geishas take revenge on the men who murdered their parents. His mission leads him to a final, bloody confrontation with the gang's mastermind and his hired assassin (Tadanobu Asano), a swordsman with a reputation as lethal as Zatôichi.

Asano Tadanobu is a great actor. He really mastered the spin sheathe. It's too bad the movies he's been in in North America haven't been that good. You have to see him in Ichi the Killer, which is the movie that made him famous.
I love it when every time he throws that tanto to the target.
He shaken his sword but it still has blood on it. When Zatoichi does this, his sword always go into sheath clean. Subtle detail.
"why did I throw my sword at that last guy? Now I got to walk over there and pick it up"
The part where the dude puts the sword back into its sheath--I just couldn't stop watching it. So cool
it's simple to make but he's speed is incredible o/
he did it utterly wrong in every sense of technicality and also safety. but I give them credit for keeping the blood on because that flick doesn't really get rid of the blood.
@@i.c.y. true about the flick, but a swordsman wouldn't have put the sword into its sheath covered in blood like that anyway. It would warp/rust the blade. So even THAT part was done wrong

This film's cgi blades are like a fistful of salt in the eyes.
my understanding has been the spurting blood and shiny blades are meant to be moderately ridiculous
I was a member of Kendo club at school when I was still in Japan, and the scene where he sheaths his sword without wiping the blood still bothers me to this day☹️

Wiping comes after the battle. He flicked the loose blood off, as is the custom in Iaido and sheathed his sword, ready to draw and strike again. Nobody stops while there are enemy around to carefully wipe their blade 😂

And he wasn't preparing another strike, everyone near him was Dead already, and the one survivor fled and got his small blade.
Probably more to play up his badassery "I don't care about blood on my sword, it's already drowned in too much already." Or something.
Probably didn't care about wiping just like he didn't care about killing random people.
He could have just used his fingers while putting the sword back into the saya

Am i the only person who likes the CGI effects in this film? I mean, it's so exaggerated it's incredibly awesome, and in some scenes they combine CGI with practical effects blood and gore and it just looks so cool, also if you combine that with Takeshi Kitano (One of my favorite action directors) you get a very awesome movie.

CGI could have been made to be realistic, that was not the point. But the thing is they bear only illustrative meaning, whereas a viewer is offered to enjoy the atmosphere of the episode itself.

В этой сцене две ошибки. Первая чисто техническая. Одежда носящего фонарь от поражения мечом осталась чистой. Меч острием не доставал стены , однако на ней след остался.
Вторая. Самурай вложил в ножны сильно испачканный кровью клинок. (его в таких случаях обычно вытирают в согнутой руке рукавом или платком.)
Но и третья (не существенная сценарная) второй носильщик мог бы слинять и раньше.

Visual effects are pretty poor. You can see clearly that the the blade, the wounds and the blood are post production cgi.

He should be carrying a rice paper piece or fabric cloth to clean the blade before re-sheathing.
But since he's supposed to be a rogue samurai/ronin, guess that's why he's shown as not caring much about traditional sword care.
In reality thou, any samurai would try to keep his sword as best as possible, specially if he expected to use it with some frequency.

They could have at least made real blood spill, Kill Bill visual effects in the crazy 88 scene are much much better and they were made around the same year as this movie.

die CGI in this movie is laughable. I like this kind of film, but this really takes me out of it. The way he stabs the guy in the belly and the throwing short sword just look ridiculous. pity.
