He's not wrong and to be serious for a moment...modern high speed rail would cut down continental U.S. plane travel, which would be good for the environment...so we won't do it because we prefer to let our outdated rail system have derailments instead.

❤ THIS! I'm sitting here wondering / daydreaming about how sustainable this energy is! I can't recall recently - if ever - grinning and nodding appreciatively for pretty much the entire show.
I've always thought of myself as a cockeyed optimist but this recurring Podcastration™️ might be the cynical infusion I've sought all my life. Optimism is nice but can get exhausting.
*One serious question* though: can this be done live? or does it require post-production clean up for the (I assume) intercontinental lag?
I'm asking bc if done live, a comments section might well provide the powder keg needed for a much needed New Revolution that Jefferson (?) endorsed. 😂

As a half breed American-Brit who moved to the UK after 20 years in NYC, this fulfills all my political news/opinion needs. I adore everything about expanding the franchise to these excellent people. And bloody hell, Lovett got some excellent jabs in there. Now get Rhodes on there to discuss the monarchy already.

I was watching this video and my husband walked in from work and without seeing the TV said “OMG NISH!” He’s stoked that one of his favorites is joining the Crooked family.

Omgggg yall dunno how excited i am for this. Ive been keeping up with UK politics for years and as an American watching Donald and BoJo at the same time but no one around me having any idea what I'm talking about when ranting about "THE LIES ON THE BUSES" and only vaguely aware of the US relevant rants, man its been a rough 7years lol so happy to see US reaching out across the pond.
I often tell my UK friends that we (progressives but also just moderate lefties sick of authoritarians and populists) NEED to start at least educating each other on whats going on and ideally helping organize, build movements, etc. While we may be able to hold off the authoritarians this go round, i think the only way we'll be able to next time they threaten democracies at a similar scale, it will only be through international awareness + solidarity that we hold the line. 🇬🇧💙🇺🇸

I really hope Pod Save the UK explains the details of how things actually work...like the house of Lords, first past the post and constituencies etc and then the pros and cons of our system. Pod Save America is really good at explaining the technicalities something that I have never seen in the UK. There is always the assumption that we already know how it works... Though as it's never been explained at school or the news I am not sure how people are meant to find out.
'First past the Post' is, essentially the same set up for how the country chooses the President.
Lots of smaller elections (across each state) and if a candidate wins enough of those smaller elections......they get to be President (via the EC confirmation).
And in both cases it isn't necessarily the person/party (UK) that gets the most votes who wins, just whomever racks up enough local election wins.
This was so much fun! 2 of my ‘fandoms’ colliding. I’m Belgian, and I was always a huge fan of Nish on the Mash Report.

I think PSUK is a worthy and wonderful addition to the Crooked Mediations. As Milton Jones has said, "Nish Kumar...sounds exotic, just a bloke." As this shows, a smartass and a smart person. Coco Khan is every bit his delightful match. Carry on.

Shoutout to the soundguy who tamed Nishs laughter, it sounds really pleasant when its not double the volume of everyone else. The bugle episodes with Nish are sometimes really hard to listen to because Chris doesnt know how to do that.
I suspect that the Pod $ave fellows have a post-production budget. I get the impression that Producer Chris operates more on love, piss & vinegar.

I swear, humor is always what pulls ppl in. Almost never just facts. Humor taps into the motivational force of emotions. Anger and fear do the same, but those emotions are stagnating and corrosive. Humor frees you up to be creative and kind as well as motivated for action. . . . I am hoping he can pull in the likes of Jon Richardson, Richard Ayoade, David Mitchell, Henning Wenn, Roisin Conaty, Miles Jupp, David Tennent, etc . . . Henning Wenn might be too tart . . . I love how uncomfortable he makes me. . . . . . I think Richard Ayoade does a particularly good job, like Nish, of balancing pointed opinion, humor and sarcasm.
Agree especially re: Henning and Richard. Would also add Sara Pascoe and Frankie Boyle.
