Why You Need To CHANGE YOUR FACTORY CAR SPEAKERS IMMEDIATELY!!

  • In this video I show why I think you should change your factory car speakers immediately! If you're like me, an audiophile of sorts, then you've probably noticed how dreadful your car, truck or SUV's factory speakers are. The process to change them out is relatively similar for most vehicles and can sometimes even be easy. In this video I work with my 2005 GMC Envoy (same as Trailblazer) and swap out the front component factory speakers for a brand new Infinity Reference REF-6522EX set that sound incredible.

      Some of the Monsoon stuff is ok-ish though. Doesn't look fancy, but plenty loud and clear enough for a stock setup. However some of the speakers use dual coils that are trickier to find drop-in replacements for. (Basically leaving you to re-do the whole system including the head unit and amp if you decide to go for something else.)
      In my case I stuck with the stock style system, but using a set of revised replacement speakers. The early stock speakers were prone to separation where the cones attached to the basket. That was the only problem and time I had significant distortion on it. No problems since changing it though.

    Being an open back speaker with no dedicated box, the door is it's box, so:
    - removing the tweeter creates a new hole and that is a bad idea;
    - as others already said, the foam around the speakers HAD a purpose (manufacturers HATE spending a single cent if not necessary);
    - seen as you have no idea what size box the new speaker needs (mentioned in tech spec as "Vas" if I'm not mistaken), sound deadening, as mentioned also by others, should have been installed as it successfully compensates for volume too big or too little (to some extent) and sound deadening is a good idea anyway;
    Also, so that you know: thin paper makes the membrane of some of the most exclusive speakers in the world and is sometimes preferred to high tech materials, the fact that is also the choice of cheap speaker manufacturers is just a coincidence.

I grew up with cars that only had AM radios, so for me factory speakers in modern vehicles sound just fine when they work. That being said, not wanting to go through having to deal with a new set of fctory speakers quitting for the same reason the old ones did I'll use aftermarket speakers, but I'm going with Rockford Fosgate 5.25 inch speakers because I can get all 4 plus all the hardware needed from Crutchfield for less than $100.00

      @Tom Smith theres no way youre dumb enough to think an audio signal is comprised of just "a+, a-"...
      Full range signal you SPED. 20hz to 20,000hz.
      Having done a full custom HQ build in an 06 Trailblazer very recently... im expremely familiar with the factory audio in this vehicle.
      The Envoys, have tweeters in the dash. The ones in the doors are unused. Simply there for ease and cost of manufacturing and assembly.
      The signal to the door speakers is 35hz to 2800 hz at a 6db crossover on the top, and 12 db at the bottom.
      For your kindergarden brain, that means the tweeters are not functioning. And his new woofers are not getting the full range signal that they can handle (down to 20hz).... and up to 3000hz.
      For these GMs, you need to rob the soeaker wires from the tweeters in the dash and run them to the doors. You also need speakers with seperate lugs for the tweeter and the woofer.... so you can run all 8 front signals to the front doors. Tweeter R woofer R tweeter L woofer L. If this was a chevy he'd be fine.
      Why dont you go learn litterally anything before arguing?
