Recently copied Goya's 1812 portrait of Wellington. The eyes are a perfect pair from normal distance, but zoomed in close they are completely different!

Another tip from John SInger Sargent..."build the eyes from the outside to the inside", it worked very well in my works !

    Interesting video.
And no doubt Nerdrum made some amazing works. But if you say "the greatest to ever live" you then have to make a video explaining why. You can't just leave that there without further details...

Storytelling and liveliness. If you see his paintings in person they have intense gravity and feel like they’re actually living

I just thought the same and this can be said about the whole 'kitsch-movement'. And apart from a few exceptions
their portraits rather lack liveliness IMHO. Renaissance and Baroque painters achieved such a look because they
worked under not optimal conditions in their darkish studios with bad lighting. Not really beneficial besides the chiaroscuro.
But that's just art: Its all a question of taste in the end...

Blah blah nonsense from Nerdrum cultists who think he's on Titian and Rembrandt's level but he's not.
