    As you can see, monitoring and replacing your cam follower is extremely important. This weekend I will post the DIY video on how to check the follower, high pressure fuel pump and camshaft - AND replace the cam follower.

    If the follower is wearing down, the cam lobe is wearing down. I would add that IF the follower is worn down Audi/VW extended the warranty of these parts so check with the dealership to see if it's covered. These parts have all been updated to resist premature wear.

    It's really simple to replace. Make sure you clean the housing where the o-ring from the hpfuel pump goes. Having that not seeded correct can cause that pressure sensor to be thrown too. Audi B7 185k; replaced diverter valve for turbo fault for a peirburg after market. Replaced pcv assembly, and on my third cam follower, usually good for 50-60k miles. The first gen engine isn't flawed just the specs on the first cam followers, they have higher tolerance to wear and tear and should last for 60k before throwing the p0089 fault. I usually change mine when I see that fault or I assume it's bc of that.

      Jan oosthuizen might be air intake mass sensor (a good mechanic with a computer diagnostic device should be able to tell if he knows what he is looking for)
      had it happen on mine, there was residue on the sensor (party my fault as I did not see the hole in the air filter) witch was preventing it from properly detecting airflow but it was enough to not throw a engine management fault but not high enough air flow voltage at the air sensor to let the turbo open (has to be enough air flow for turbo to open up if computer thinks there is not enough air flow it wount open the turbo at the correct RPM, it spool but that's all)

    Why not build a follower that has a roller on it....problem solved..... or if those Engineers had any bit of sense they could have done this with an electric fuel pump.... I mean seriously you see thousand horsepower turbo cars all day long that don't have a mechanical fuel pumps.... that is a bit of ignorance to me.... bad engineering...a total fail not to mention when the damage is done it cost up to $1,000 in parts to fix it how stupid... I have one of these cars but it's a Car Lot car so it's going to be fixed back to factory specs but if it were my personal car I would eliminate the mechanical high pressure fuel pump and find a better way around that shoddy engineering..... I mean surely you guys got to agree with that. who pulls their fuel pump off every 10,000 miles or so to check it I'm sure a 50 year old lady wouldn't have a clue to do that....that's what happened to the one I have,an older lady had it...140k miles.....

      @vindieu Před 3 lety +1

      the size of the electric motor needed for the 150 PSI of fuel pressure overcosts the cam follower. in terms of energy it would be stupid to use a motor since the power comes from the alternator, so you're having an even longer, failure-prone, power chain to the pump with that choice. (accessory belt + alternator + cables + ECU + motor | versus: follower & shaft)

    • @motersickel
      @motersickel Před 3 lety

      Well I have an electric fuel pump that pushes 110 PSI very easily I've had it for 6 years and use it for different things and it would be much easier to replace an electric pump than it would to have to replace the entire camshaft when it wipes the camshaft out... that's what happened with the car I had... had to replace the intake camshaft
