Roland TD-50X with DWe Drums and Cymbals - Must See!

  • Roland just came out with an update for the TD-50X which allows the TD-50X module to be used as the controller with DWe kits instead of a computer. It also allows one to use Roland cymbals with a DWe shell pack as well. It works great and it's a free firmware update for the TD-50X module that is out right now.

    Yes you can still of course trigger the DWe or other software using the TD-50X's USB/MIDI or MIDI ports. Good question!

      Agreed! We feel they should put the wireless tech into Roland cymbals but still make them able to be plugged in as well so they work with older / other modules.

    Great info! What they need to do…. Since DW and Roland are the same company now, is make the Roland cymbals wireless with the DW cymbal underside and Roland top cymbal so that you can have wireless DW drums with wireless Roland cymbals. Also, make that update for the td27 as well. Maybe you guys could send that up to DW/Roland as a suggestion
    Thanks, Jim

    Thanks for this video Erik and team! One question, can you still trigger sounds from DW SoundWorks software with this setup? Like by maybe plugging the TD-50X to a MacBook Pro and choosing the TD-50X as the input to trigger sounds on the Mac? That will allow to use both, either module sounds or DW sounds by turning Local Control Off, maybe?

    Those DWe cymbals don’t seem to natural rebound like real cymbals. The Roland 706 cymbals seem to have more realistic attack and rebound. Am I correct? This is a big factor for me whether to purchase the Roland kit or the DWe kit. I hope to hear from you….thanks!

    • @Edrumcenter
      @Edrumcenter  Před 3 měsíci

      The DWe cymbals are metal so the stick feel is more akin to an acoustic cymbal. However they have an undercarriage which makes them stiffer and heavier than both acoustic cymbals and the newer Roland "thin" cymbals. Give us a call to discuss!

    Other than getting direct outputs for FOH, what are the pro's of sending the wireless into the 50X module as opposed to sending to the PC soundworks directly? Isn't the Soundworks drums samples superior to those found on the 50X?
    Really just need the Roland thin e-cymbals & hi-hat mated to the DWe kit and make them wireless as well. Getting an upgraded wireless hub that includes direct outs would seem the way to go.

    • @Edrumcenter
      @Edrumcenter  Před 9 dny

      This is the only way you can use a DWe shellpack with Roland cymbals right now. The other benefit is you can use the Roland TD-50X direct outs ( all 10 of them ). Saving you having to buy an interface for more outputs. If you want to trigger the DWe Soundworks software you can still do so by using the MIDI out of the TD-50X.

    • @Ken-jj9lo
      @Ken-jj9lo Před 9 dny +1

      Maybe real cymbals should be included with DWe sets or VAD706 series and include a wireless mic that attaches to the cymbals stands to patch them through. That way you get the best of both worlds. Just thinking & throwing out ideas.

    Can you use Soundworks samples in the TD50x, or is this only for what sounds you already have on the TD50x? I already have an expanded VAD706 kit, so it would be great to have the shells wireless & also use the new DW sounds with the TD50x module. Last question - Can FoH control the shells from the sample outputs at the back of the module? I currently send all 8 outputs to our splitter/monitor desk & FoH can mix toms, kick, snare respectively.

    So there is no delay from the wireless? I used CME bluetooth and there is a noticable delay from contact to sound.

    • @Edrumcenter
      @Edrumcenter  Před 3 měsíci

      I don't think you can ever say no delay on anything wireless but in this case it's so low that it's hardly more noticeable than using a cable. Keep in mind that even while using cable the electrons need to move from one place to another so there is always some latency.

    Is there any benefit to doing this versus using the midi connection? I’m wondering if there’s any additional latency doing the midi method. I’m not too keen on dropping another $2800 to get a module if I can use the midi output with something else (like an eDrumin 10). Any thoughts?

    • @Edrumcenter
      @Edrumcenter  Před 3 měsíci

      The triggering with the TD-50X was incredible. No latency at all because there's no computer involved. That's the benefit. You also get the TD-50X's direct outputs as well as the 32 channels of Audio or MIDI over USB.

      @@Edrumcenter Thanks! Do you see any benefit to using the direct/usb method versus the mini-midi jack on the DWe module? Since the TD-50x only has 3 digital inputs, it seems a shame to "waste" one of them on this if you also had the digital Roland ride/hihat/snare pads. OTOH, if you bought the DWe shell pack you could use its snare instead of the Roland. Anyway, just curious if there is any noticeable difference between the 2 methods.

    This is why I am hesitant to purchase a VAD 507. I feel I am on the trailing edge of technology...be it hard wired setups.
    You can see the overall future is wireless. The fact they could mate up their high end module to the DWE is a sign of things to come. I'm sure youe going to see wireless VAD sets to come. The triggers could easily be dropped into VAD shells w some kind of dedicated module/brain.. They just proved they've been working on it. I'd prefer a wireless VAD kit w a dedicated module vs laptop and hybrid DWE. I don't need acoustic capability and its additional cost. Just a wireless VAD 507.
