I think fighters like GSP and Stephen Thompson have proven that you don't have to trash talk your opponents to stand out and make a name for yourself.
Honestly, I just wish Ian Garry would stop trying to emulate MacGregor. I get that they're countrymen and that MacGregor is a superstar so it might seem obvious to emulate him, but there's dozens of UFC fighters who are just as obnoxious as MacGregor who never became superstars, so clearly the key to success isn't trashing other fighters.
How is he emulating Connor here? If anything his mrs is like the polar opposite to Dee ?
To be fair, you will lack support from the promoters if you don't create dram and that is the biggest issue. Being nice is just very difficult in that industry

Conor was lightning in a bottle and will never be replicated and fighters need to understand that.
The funny accent was the smallest piece. He was making wild predictions and executing them perfectly, was absolutely cleaning his division and dominating bad matchups against him, was quick witted and had some of the best trash talk of all time in his heyday and had an insane confidence and belief in himself. Not a false arrogance like he has now, but true confidence in his abilities. Everything just aligned perfectly for him in an impossible way.
Many others before, it was the norm before in Japan during the K1 golden era and even in pride FC or a bit after it wasn't necessary to trash talk to be a super star .
Yes some rivalries between fighters got dirty sometimes but most popular fighters were humble champions like Fedor, crocop, nogueira, shogun etc...
Ernesto hoost, peter aerts, mark hunt , Sam Greco, ray sefo , mike Bernardo etc...
And of course the most popular fighter in K1 and foreign athlete in Japan was Andy hug , and he was an introvert, humble guy and the most popular foreign guy in Japan during 90's .
Because Japan was ahead of time in kickboxing and MMA a champion was a mainstream superstar doing tv show and movies , K1 fighters were on big screen in Tokyo street and Shinjuku station .
It mostly depends on audience, anglo-saxon fans love trash talker so they ask for it and fighters feel good doing it .
In K1 the level was very high and audience prefer fighters who are like hero ,so trash talk wasn't necessary.
Concerning marrying older women or men it's not same cause biologically men and women have many differences , athletic, brain is different, and fertility is different. So if there is big age gap kill n a couple it's better to have the woman younger. (Small age gap is of course better)
Ian Garry is trash and can't be best striker in MMA or in the world . Fight in a division and organisation where striking is weak level (only old wonderboy and Leon Edward are great).if wonderboy was young he would smoke him.
Plus if we talk kickboxing many guys would f him.

A number of people who have dealt with this couple on a daily basis are coming forward to let the world know how NOT GOOD these people are.
She wrote a book about being manipulative and it appears that Ian has been manipulated. I think her saying the book was satire is an excuse. There are even videos where she has stopped him from speaking so it does appear that this lady is very controlling. Based on what I'm seeing it's not a good look and the whole Neal Magny sutuation is also there.
I honestly think Ian Garry is absolutely a really skilled and talented fighter, for anyone in the division, but overall, I think in real life, he is a really nice guy, but in terms of trash talk, it is a bit too much forced, because he gets really personal with his trash talk, and you sometimes really think, he means what he says, especially, when he said he wanted to fight Wonderboy, to be the best striker of the division, overall, I think he can sometimes get a bit too mean, but overall, a nice guy in my opinion!
