My River Table went Viral (Because I did it wrong)
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 23. 10. 2021
- I made a River Table using real flowing water. Apparently this is not standard practice in the world of River Tables as I eventually learnt because it turns out that River Tables are infact made from Epoxy. I wish someone would have told me sooner.

Before you ask. Yes, I do plan on putting gravy in this. What would you put through this table if you had the chance? đ€
Whisky. Best party ever!
A squash ball to see if it would shoot out the other end
a light under the river to also see water gliding on the ceiling
Being so close to Hershey, one could have a chocolate river.
phone charger ....prepper for more calls ..
I think this might be the ONLY river table build I actually liked. You can play Pooh Sticks!
Yes!!! đ Iâll make that a priority this week.
Hey random verified user I had no idea anyone still knew what pooh sticks was, I'm glad you brought back the memories.
Liziqi made a river table i really liked with a circulating river around a center piece that she used to float appetizers during a dinner party was seriously cool worth checking out....i think she used cement tho lol
Dude, I see you all over the place and I'm starting to think that because I Binged your videos for like 3 weeks straight, YT must think anything you watch must be something I would watch.
Anyway, I enjoy your videos even the non-scambait ones.
@@MattEstlea it needs a bridge!!!!!!! But deffo my favourite river build I have ever watched and I have seen a lot lol deffo would love to give this a go for myself!!
The first half of the czcams.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
Honestly jokes on the river table community. They make figurative river tables, making it look like a river. You make a literal river table which is clearly harder and cooler than a normal river table.
This is the only river table design I want to have if I were to have one
I saw this video and thought "finally"
This table makes me want to make a proper fish tank river table
@@lolzasouruhm179 oh gods.
@@lolzasouruhm179 With live catfish, so you can just sweep your table scraps into the center of the table. Hehe, or those fish that clean sharks and whales, then you can just drop your dirty dishes in the tank and they'll be spotless for your next meal.
You betooled chaos gremlin, this is absolutely PHENOMENAL. Not only is the entire concept beautifully unhinged, but the cinematography looks exactly the way being in the shop with too much addy and Red Bull and not enough sleep feels. Itâs Avant-garde fuckery and Iâm HERE for it. Love the story telling, love the River table.
Love this comment
surely this is one of the most relatable comments I have seen.
Itâs ok I guess
I just spit my beer out laughingâŠ
Do you get an appearance credit, supporting actor?
Looking forward to see Matt fly over to collaborate in Matt's workshop. It'd be great to see two of the best get together and make something.
Lmao

The brutal honesty to showing all the hilarious mistakes you've made just earned you another subscriber, even though this is the first thing I've watched from you. Please continue to be awesome.
Totally agree
I took the exact same approach as you and this another subscriber is born :)
Well that makes three of us new subscribers on the back of this video
That makes four of us
Definitely makes six got my lady friend inspired by this video to make her own
Hell yeah. Can add another to the tally here
As someone with cats, I very much want a river table like this đ€Ł. World's most expensive cat fountain. They'd love it.
Just be sure to use food safe resin. I think that would be an amazing idea, my cats refuse to drink still water!
Mhm cats on the table where you may eat not soo hygienic I know cats are clean animals but they walk an the floor like we do and out feet aren't supposed to be on the table because of hygiene and therefore respect
@@TheLtVoss Cats will wind up on your table one way or the other if they want to be. If they're not on the table while you're watching, they're on the table when you're not.
If you own cats, it's always best practice to wipe down your eating surfaces before you use them, because there's no way to guarantee your cats haven't been up there.
I just let them go where they will and make sure to clean any surface before I use it.
Edited for typo
@@deongeiss12 my cats prefer water from an outside fountain, but only after it has turned green.
This should win the award for woodworking video of the year. Itâs great to see something that Iâm sure started out as a joke over a pint and turned into something absolutely stunning.
He fkd up loads
@@a3kid but somehow it made itđ
@@a3kid hater. Go watch something else.
Damn dude. Taking this content creation to the next level. Impressed.
Me personally i would have put a glass top over it so the entire table could still be used but over all very cool build
Glass would be easy solution. Crystal clear Epoxy would be awesome
@@guyod1 I feel like putting glass would be better because you don't have to make it permanent and glass doesn't scratch as easily as epoxy. The reason I mentioned the glass not being permanent is because the table uses real water which most likely has minerals and other things in it causing hard water deposits which will be a lot harder to clean if you put a big thing of epoxy permanently over it.
@@Letfordlay I hear ya. Its functional. But tacky. Could use distilled water.
@@Letfordlay Also, it probably a lot more fun to use and look at in this state, but more practical with glass over it. So it could just have glass set over top when needed?
You'll have to consider condensation and the effects maybe somthing other then water
This is legitimately way cooler than any other "river" table I've ever seen and I'd much rather have this than a fake river table
"How to be as cool as Jonathan Katz-Moses" will never get old đđđ Thanks for letting me give you a thrashing (gents/ladies). xoxoxoxo
Your performance was outstanding and I loved that you broke the 4th wall continously by looking at the cam the whole time XD
We all need goals.

This was a great blend of comedy and legitimate woodworking. The table looks amazing! Great job Matt!! Hoping this goes viral for you!
Thank you!
Really enjoyed this one, great to see mistakes and the way you deal with problems. Not medieval of course, but I watch a load of craft type videos and your work is very entertaining and educational!
I always wanted to see a river table with actual flowing water. Now I want one.
Finally a river table worthy of the name, outstanding.
Just wanted to pop in and say not only does Matt have a unique vision for videos, he's also a determined, patient, and gracious woodworker. It was an absolute slog of a project at times, but the man's perseverance seemingly never waivers. And what an awesome edit!!
Are you in the video?
@@CeeJayThe13th thatâs me!
@@saramulry neat! Nice work!
@@saramulry , such a real effort by everyone. So impressive.
I think your take on this is way more creative even with the challenges of combining water plumbing with woodworking. No one is going to make a better river table than that one.
You should add a couple of holes for potted Bonsai trees, the combination of tranquil water flow, river bed, living and seasoned wood would be a stunning center piece for any room!
Bonsai forest river table, lighting would be an issue, other than that it would make a beautiful center piece....hmm I might try this... Thanks.
This would have been an amazing project just in concept alone. The fact that you added the comedic elements really took it to the next level. It was great to see the mistakes and the revisions too. All around great job. Hope it hits the viral button for you Matt.
This is becoming one of the most entertaining woodworking channels lol, that intro was amazing
Appreciate it Erk! Thank you
Its perfect! If i could afford to have a gigantic custom made table this would definitely be the one I'd go for. Definitely deserves to go viral.
It's crazy how I'm discovering random new communities. I don't know a single person in this video. It's awesome
That looks absolutely fantastic!
agreed .. fantastic table.. i love it!
never expected to see you here nordern! cool!
I absolutely love the cameos - what a wonderful community of creators.
bro, EASILY THE GREATEST RIVER TABLE IVE SEEN ON CZcams! LOVE YOUR CONTENT, YOU'VE REALLY HELPED ME ENHANCE MY WOOD WORKING! ILL BE SHARING THIS ON MY IG FOR SURE! Also love the video work and scripted contentâđŸâđŸâđŸ
This is by far the coolest river table I have ever seen and this video is criminally under viewed. I just got it recommended to me so hopefully that means a lot more people will have it recommended.
I love how the Bourbon Moth theme song is playing while youâre making a river tableâŠ. We all know how much Jason loves river tables!! Lol
He also loooves sanding.....lol.
Oh, nice Easter egg! Didn't notice it before.
Exactly what I came here to comment. "He's making fun of Jason hating river tables! Sweet!" Also? Jason needs to just buy the rights to that song
I was thinking the exact same thing!! đ
I'm sure it's a Kevin McCloud song but to me it's the Bourbon Moth theme so it had me tripping for a second.
This would be perfect for my cats and dog! They love drinking from moving water. Cracking good job on this build. Also as a very novice wood working I really appreciate seeing pros make mistakes. It helps me remember that being good isn't the absence of mistakes but the skills to fix them.
That's a great shout! Cheers Ryan :)
This video deserves 1 million views! Positively epic, mate!!!
Honestly this is the best thing I've watched this whole year, it was clearly a tremendous effort.
This was one of the most entertaining woodworking videos I have seen in years. Yes, we learned some things, as I suspect most woodworkers are looking to accomplish watching these videos, but the pure entertainment of the story, the comedy, the cameos, and the fantastic result, brought the viewers an experience rarely seen in the woodworking community. As much of a joke as you were making about the need to go viral, this truly deserves to. You have set the bar high Matt. Great Job!
It sure was comforting to watch someone else struggle, sometimes I feel like it's just me that's always shooting themselves in the foot. The important part is where you are at the end, not how many times you cursed in the middle. Great job, Matt.
I'm so glad there's an actual physical River in there With water Instead of just resin
Your workflow speaks to my soul
Absolutely amazing, and the first river table I have ever seen that I would actually love to have in my house!
You gotta get it in first, ITS SO HEAVY! Thank you though, means a lot!
Same. Can't stand river tables but this one is just too brilliant.
Faaaaaantastic! This one cracked me up! Love to see all the hard work and headaches paid off. Nowadays we see videos and forget all the stuff that goes behind. Super happy for you and really hope this goes as viral as you deserve. Hat off to you!!
Iâm so glad I found you, this is the first video Iâve seen from you and itâs dyne definition of perfection!
Glad to see you having tons of fun with your videos again! As always, great content and a pleasure to watch.
Now finally an actual river table! I've been saying for ages it would be soo awesome if someone did this!
Thank you for this video Matt.
It means so much to see people admitting that a project didn't go smoothly. That mistakes were made.
So much of woodwork is correcting things that went wrong.
Just because something has gone wrong, it doesn't mean that you are bad at this. These things happen. You find ways to fix it and move on.
(Also, you are right. River tables have water in them)
This was epic! The process, the "flow", and the edit.. and not to mention the cameos! Loved every bit of it! Amazing result!
I like how your so transparent with the reason you need to make it
This is beautiful, and you consistently make me laugh. This video deserves to go viral.
Glad you enjoyed it Nickolas!
This is just outright ridiculous Matt, great fkin job! o.o
Thank you mate! I'd love to say it was a fun one, but nope!
Can you calculate the Curl of the water stream? That would be an interesting video?
This is the best and coolest river table I have ever seen! I love it!
Haven't watched Matt for a while. This one was special. Thanks, Matt!
Great video Matt! Can't wait for the next project!
You can p155 the River Table community off even more by adding a few rocks just under the surface to make the flow more organic - like a real river table would be...
Nice project, enjoyed the production. Worth waiting for!
Amazing results, love it
It seems like the algorithm has finally picked up on this amazing video. Just got it on my home page and I rarely watch woodworking videos. And I gotta say that is one banging end product. Looks absolutely stunning.
Glad to see you back, Matt! Amazingly funny video and very well put together. My body aches at the amount of work I know you put into making this work of art. You are awesome!
Thank you! Really means alot!
I don't even have words. This was SO entertaining! And the project is pretty cool, too.
Hands down one the absolute best rivers i ever seen brilliant work
i have to say i love this SOOOOOO MUCH!! this is actually a RIVER TABLE IT'S A TABLE WITH A FRIKING RIVER IN IT!! THAT'S AWESOME!!
Here Matt, have a comment for the algorithm. This build is spectacular, and I like how you've managed to change up your content for the better. Lets hope it goes viral - truly one of a kind this project.
Mind-blowing!
You pulled it off and I love it! Well worth the 4 month wait for a video â„ïž
Thank you Chris!
Great production all around. Thoroughly entertaining. This is the first video of yours that I've come across and it definitely earned a sub! Thanks
Bro, this is incredible. This has now become the meta for river table designs. Well effing done
For all the work, problems and disappointment involved, it looks great!
This is freaking awesome Matt, totally deserves to go viral đ
IT BLOODY BETTER DO AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE IVE JUST HAD
Finally somebody that knows how to make a river table!
My god! I added this video to my Watch Later playlist and it sat there for quite a while. Man do I regret sleeping on this! You sir are amazing! This video was a complete ride from start to end. Your amazing use of voice over and montage struck the most perfect balance of pacing I have ever witnessed in a maker video. Not too long and descriptive to be boring but also not skipping so much that you gloss over what really happened. To maintain this pacing while also weaving a humorous narrative throughout the entire video without being "pandering" leaves me awe struck. You get my subscription and I will definitely be checking out more of your content!
This is so cool. I've always thought "river tables" were dumb, but I would genuinely want this in my home. I love this build, and this definitely is worth subscribing forâ€
I'm happy to see that someone finally made something like this. I've been wanting to make one for a decade, but I don't have a workshop. :(
I definitely would have inlaid a clear plastic or glass cover over the river, but it looks good!
This is hands down my favourite wood working video on youtube. Thanks man, this was clearly an insane amount of work
Just discovered this channel and this has got to be the most entertaining wood working video Iâve ever seen.
Omg!! I regret not watching this the second it came out! I love river tables, I love YOUR river table! The cameos were awesome, your editing is fantastic, and the commentary and phone gags are hilarious!!
You absolutely crushed this project Matt! Keep it up brother!
Thank you so much!
Great job Matt (and Sarah) fantastic piece. you may even win over some of the river table haters. you certainly have me. Great to have you back
This is by far, the nicest river table ive seen.
I was honestly expecting you to cover the river with glass or plastic but honestly, I really do love the open look you did a great job of this and can't wait to go back through your old stuff now that i've found ya! Keep it up
This is awesome. I love the jokes with the other CZcamsrs. Great job Matt!
wow!! what a video!!! Great to see you making so many mistakes and needing the brains of the outfit to fly in and sort it for you!! the cameos from the boys over the pond!! those acting lessons you've been doing over the last few months have really paid off!! do bafta do a CZcams award!!?? looks stunning!! HECK YEAH BEST TABLE EVER! I've always been a river table fan but you good sir have taken it to the next level!
Absolutely Amazing Matt!
That is f*cking amazing. Best Table Ever. I hope this goes properly viral.
I see so much possibilities: garlic sauce, ketchup, vanilla custard, peanut soup.... and a large bowl with slices of baguette. Great job!
I cant wait to see how it holds up after a year of feasting! please do a throwback / progress video!
Dude, you took building a river table to the highest level ever! I gotta say, I'm totally inspired. You just got a new subscriber lol great job man, looking forward to seeing more of your work
Genuinely the only river table I'd say is truly one of a kind, great work Matt!
Great video Matt! Finally back and really liked it. Nice to also see some things from back when you started, like the Google Earth thing, in this new editing style.
Damn! I remember you right from the beginning! Glad you pickup up on it. It's been fun revisiting the roots recently.

Looks stunning!!đđ
Matt, what an absolutely beautiful table. The production on this video was brilliant and the end product was the perfect cherry on top of a delicious cake. Hats off to you. This video was worth waiting for, for sure. Well done sir.

Hooray, Matt is finally back!! Great video as always, fantastic table as an extra win đ Now, back to work and get those videos flowing again. (see what I did there!) Has Rob recovered yet from his kick in the chest and little fall? đ
Oh no, he's proper dead now. Cheers Andy!
This is the most awesome take on a River table I have seen. Brilliant! Difficult, full of challenges, and the most awesome cat watering fountain ever! It also prevents people from not paying attention and just setting stuff on the table.
Well I guess it worked, I haven't seen you pop in my feed for the longest time, and here I am watching that whole thing, congrats!
I love this table. I would put a piece of glass of something to cover it with though, just to avoid dropping anything in the water, but the table itself is awesome
nah, let the honey-nut cheerios be swept away by the current to drown in the cold rapids.

Absolutely stunning Matt! Well done! After seeing some of your pain on the live stream a while back, it's so great to see the final product!
It's so good to finally get it released. What an utter nightmare this thing was!
