I love this song. It is one of my favorit songs in The Singer competition. Dimash is really a master in performing. The lady gasping for air towards the end is me every time I watch this video. I gasp for air and start to cry 🤭.
The next episode is called Daididau. In case you are interested in the history of this song.
This song is very sad and it tells about a very dark time in the history of Kazakhstan, not so long ago. To understand the song, I always advise to take the link from Gloria Wu’s channel again as it shows the background story and also has English subtitles.
The Kazakh poet and writer Magzhan Zumabayev was sentenced by the Russian regime to 10 years in prison for conspiracy in 1929 and imprisoned. While in custody there, he was falsely (probably more intentionally) told that his wife (her nickname was Daididau) had left him. If I am correctly informed he is said to have written the lines of the song in prison (as a letter to his wife), probably to express his deep sadness and despair over is.
Although he was released in 1934, he was arrested again a few months later and was executed 1937.
The lyrics of this song are so sad I could cry every time I hear it. It never leaves me unmoved. Even after hearing it so many times.
I was at his concert in Düsseldorf and he sang this song with us Dears there too. This song is one he always performs in his concerts, plays the Dombra (a Kazakh folk instrument), and asks his Dears to sing along with him in his Kazakh language (he looks like a Kazakh Prince with his traditional clothing). Every Dear knows many of his lyrics in Kazakh and loves to sing his songs with him at his concerts.
I find it incredibly impressive and wonderful how a single man manages to bring together so many people from meanwhile 150 different countries and continents with so many different views in politics or religion, with so many different languages in a common group and to celebrate peacefully together and to sing in his own language. You always can see how proud he is of his country and how happy and moved he is when the audience sings with him in his concerts🥰.
There is another version of this song that I would like to recommend, but you don't have to do it yet if you don't want to. And that's the one from his Bastau concert. This concert was his first solo concert after performing in The Singer competition in 2017. He has invited about 100 dombra players to this concert, who together with him perform a short instrumental, Adai, before Daididau. That's also very impressive.

Just for your information, Daididau is also the name of a restaurant that run Dimash's little sister Raushan and his family in Astana, Kazakhstan.

There is so much to learn about him. He is a nice, intelligent, respectful and humble person. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills. But there are greater experts than me🤭. But I really enjoy sharing my knowledge. There are very few songs that I don't like as much as others and I can't say much about them😳.

I just can’t wait 😀
One of my favorite performances because he is almost desperate to get a first place in this round. He received a 6th place the previous round doing Bruno Mars’ UpTown Funk - even though the audience was singing along and dancing in place. At that time anyone with 7th place or lower was sent home. Dimash poured every ounce of his energy into Adagio. You can see the exhaustion at the end in his face and body posture. When he got back to the competitors’ viewing room he collapsed onto the couch. My heart always goes out to him. AND he got first place! 😃❤️ The 500 members of the audience were all professional musicians, and they were the judges. Their reactions to Adagio said it all!

You are absolutely correct.😏 Dimash scored very badly with UpTown Funk and he has a long history before this competition of always coming in first at every singing competition.🙄😉
I suspect that caused an internal "fear" and created this performance that appeared as if he was singing for his life.
He chose his suit with the blue/gold colors of Kazakhstan for luck.
He chose this song because he had long experience listening to a Lara Fabian record as a preteen.
I recommend that if you need a short break for variety, try her original performance which one of the other Dears has provided a link for. There is a really good reason why Lara is one of Dimash's idols.
This was the performance that made me realize that I would never survive a 3 hour Dimash Concert. ☹️😔

I just knew it . I’ve watched reality TV shows and I can suspect when someone is fighting for survival. This was a brilliant show he put out for real. It was so unreal 🥶🥶.

Also, although Dimash was here only 22, he’d been on stage since 2, competing since 6. So he’s no newcomer to the stage. Singer 2017 was pivotal in his career in the sense that Hunan TV out the entire show in CZcams, which brought Dimash to the attention of the whole world.

He did so badly in the previous round (Uptown Funk), not merely coming last but aggravating the producers because he sang banned lyrics (which are censored in the video you just watched), that he was due to be dropped from the competition unless he made it impossible for them to do that. And that in turn threatened to collapse his life story into a puddle of tears. He must have felt enormous pressure, despite his total belief in the meaning of his life being performing on the world stage.
So he poured the pressure back on the producers by picking blue and gold to represent his country (he's super proud of his country, and knew the Chinese authorities wanted to foster good relations with Kazakhstan), and picked a song where he could showcase himself playing piano (he won a national piano playing competition when he was 6 years old), and topped it off by sending a message to Lara Fabian (who he fell in love with when he was 12 years old) who had written the song Adagio, and the audience (if you pay close attention to them they speak to the audience both literally, in English, and emotionally, in musical terms).
So what you saw is one of the (many) pivotal moments in his life, and he rose to the occasion, as he always does.
I just knew it . I’ve watched a lot of music reality shows and I know then someone performs to save himself. This performance was a superb survival performance and I doubt anyone would have been able to resist him, from his outfit to his composure and poise then down to the vocals.
It was an absolute demolition 😂😂.
