      This is glorious, been searching for "is it hard to sing and play piano?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Poneyton Introductory Preeminence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great exclusive product for discovering how to master the piano minus the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.

    My favorite practice tip is from Robert Schumann’s “Musikalische Haus- und Lebensregeln.”
    “When you have done your musical day's work and feel tired, do not exert yourself further. It is better to rest than to work without pleasure and vigour.”
    (Original:
    “Hast du dein musikalisches Tagewerk gethan und fühlst dich ermüdet, so strenge dich nicht zu weiterer Arbeit an. Besser rasten, als ohne Lust und Frische arbeiten.” )
    Schumann also advises;
    “Das »wohltemperirte Clavier« sei dein täglich Brod. Dann wirst du gewiß ein tüchtiger Musiker.”
    I believe in this adage because of two legendary adherents of this rule, namely Pablo Casals and Andras Schiff.
    (3:07, 4:01 Cannot help loving these “eTiffany” moments😂)

    I really enjoyed this practice video. I’ve never sat with or sat through someone’s practice time other than my own. And, you’re right about not having a routine. I actually tried to set one and then I felt so bored that each time I practiced I had to purposely do different things and the practice became more rewarding and I got more out of it. I can see why many people were asking you about doing this video. It answered so many questions. Everyone wants a bit of guidance from you to be able to play well. For those who did not have a routine now feel more certain that they are on the right track. At the end your message was to do what works for you. As I can only speak for myself, after listening to what you said, I no longer feel guilty that I’m doing something wrong with my practice. As it is, I have little time these days to get to the piano each week and so what you said made a big difference for me so thank you so very much! If you have time and don’t mind, I would love to see another one of these practice videos!!!

    My main struggle is finding enough motivation to keep practicing to get a piece from, say, 60-70% to 90-100%. I don't normally struggle with motivation at the beginning but my motivation dies when I get to about 60%, and I get bored. If anyone has any tips on how to overcome that, I'd love to hear them :)

    • @jamien.5528
      @jamien.5528 Před 4 lety +19

      Yes actually! I’ve struggled with that a lot myself, so I’ve found that playing the piece EXTREMELY slowly with lots of expression helps with boredom. Also, if you keep drilling a piece from beginning to end over and over, you WILL get bored. So maybe try doing the slow practice on different sections. Sorry if this was too long 😅

    • @MrsMuniaa
      @MrsMuniaa Před 4 lety +6

      I have a digital piano where you can transpose the key, so when I get bored I just play the song in a different key. I don’t know if that’s actually good for practicing but it makes it less boring and it does keep me motivated.

    • @starros1
      @starros1 Před 4 lety +3

      I have the same problem. I find that, first, take a break, rest your mind, a nice walk in nature somewhere, and I use youtube to find artists I love to listen to whether Classical, Jazz or Pop or Country. I also have some online mentors that help me. In addition, I try to pick music that is not to far above my grade level. And to finish, I really like to watch artists who are happy with what they are doing. That motivates me and makes me happy too. If you have friends to watch it with you , that is even better. Enjoy your journey!

      Either leave the piano to do something else like eating food, take a rest, or shoot a video clip of you playing the 60%, send it to your teacher or friends who plays better piano than you to ask for advice, so that you can improve. This is usually what I do. Hope it can be helpful to you, or to anyone who needs it.

      When I practise I never play the whole piece. I like to focus on some concrete fragment and then go to the next piece. At the next day I play the fragment that comes after the one I practised day before. You can’t play everything at one day bcs it would take a lot of time and would not be precise. (Sorry for my english)

    Tiffany's ideal practice sounds exactly like the ideals from my Piano teacher Dr. Herbert. The freedoms of music and yourself allow you to develop guidelines for yourself and the music, which is true! there isn't only one way of teaching a student how to play a certain way, traditionally majority of music teachers strictly teach with the reading of sheet music and analyzing primarily for classical pieces. However there are teachers teach you the ability to read and understand sheet music and use it as a tool, it's like you're expanding your music theory knowledge without even realizing it. I've seen some people on CZcams and students from my school begin to make their own arrangements or transcriptions for new songs that appear on the radio or shows since there always isn't a constant source of sheet music around for the newer generation of music. Both sides show the beauty of music and freedom. there shouldn't be a set in stone routine of practice for each instrument. Don't restrict yourself as a musician! Beautiful playing as always Tiffany keep up the good work! When my school year starts again I'll be looking forward to your uploads after school like always!

    This video really gave an idea to what i really do even though routines are boring and somewhat great unless if you are willing to prioritise most of the time as this point i couldn't agree even more.
    "I can be a bit lazy when it comes to practice" 😪
    We all need a break at some point and plan what you need to do is what i mostly say to myself.
    Sometimes I find it really hard to compromise just because "A routine is not going to work"
    We're not robots, just ourselves that make the use of being productive and control things from how we want.
    Everyone is a unique individual
    Great video Tiffany ☺

    Very good video, enjoyable and instructive. I like the concept of NOT following a ROUTINE...any routine becomes boring in the end. My biggest problem with practicing is getting motivated, inspired and ambitious. And seeing as I am a church organist, the piano is quite the opposite experience with the attack and decay of the organ sound versus the piano sound. So when I practice at home with my piano keyboard sometimes when I translate to the organ, it doesn’t work out because of the issues I described with just the attack and decay of the organ manual versus the piano keyboard. Anyway, this is not about me, but how you, Tiffany, are a very gifted player and that you’ve really got it all together at such a young age. Awesome for you! Keep up the great work with practicing/playing/performing and making these vids.

    Totally agree with you! ❤️ You are such an inspiration. It's a relief to see this kind of videos because there is no "right way" to practice, cuz everyone does it differently. And there is also no way around practice in order to become better;))
    I think that "we are used to" seeing this one-sided and unhealthy environment of how a musicians day is supposed to look like. I am really happy that you share classical music with the world in the way that you do... Most musicians put up their most perfect videoes, because "you don't want to put a failure on the internet, it stays on there forever".... I'm not a huge fan of this mindset, so I love and respect a lot how you encourage us to "see the truth", and THINK!!! 😅 So thank you... this video is one of my all time favorites! 🎶❤️ P.S. Whenever I talk to other piano students they always want to know what my piano routine is and how many hours I practice everyday...I always felt like I never had a specific routine...I don't even practice for the same amount of hours everyday, I mean, sometimes I feel like playing 3 hours, but sometimes I can only play 1hour (like today). Sometimes I play what I'm supposed to play, others I just mix the new pieces with pieces I already know. When I explain this, there's usually another piano student that looks at me like I'm crazy and doesn't really believe it (but you MUST have a practice routine, but I'm sure you play more or less for the same amount of hours everyday...) which always made me feel kind of guilty and irresponsible. As always, Tiffany, you make more sense than everyone else, and I absolutely understand the way you feel about practicing. I mean, of course it's kind of a "job" and one has to take it seriously to get better but, at last, what we do it's called "play" for some reason... isn't it...? At least that's how I feel ,and I really believe you can't tell a kid how to play :D
    So glad you made this video, it made me feel a lot more understood and less insecure. Hope to see more week practice videos, they're so cool (I love how you jump from one piece to another). By the way, your Ravel is just amazing. :)

    Cutest pianist on earth. Never seen Talent being so sweet. Keep up your efforts, they're so inspiring for all of us, even a crappy pianist like me! :-) btw ain't Ravel's creations the most visionary ever? Hugs to everyone.

    For me, I found sometimes putting too much thoughts might be counterproductive, so just relax inside and show the most natual part of you.

    Love the video! Sometimes, it's not the method that makes a great practice, but the focus and intention within it.

    Been loving Chopin nocturnes recently. Especially Op.9 No.1. And something else with wonderful trills that I have no number for.
    Has she thought of buying a small microphone to attach to her handheld. The replayed sound is always far greater quality. It captures more bass. Such microphones are easily transportable in back packs. They take up little to no room.
    Thanks for these lessons in classical piano. They have helped broaden my appreciation of this genre. ☯️

    Thank you for introducing me to yet another new concept of life (new to me, anyway) in the negative influence of routine on dynamic living beings. While non-mobile entities like plants and machines may require routine for photosynthesis and assembly, routine is like a nail in the coffin for dynamic beings. Excellent vlog filled with interesting thoughts, and I'm definitely going to apply aversion to routine in more areas of life from now on because routine can certainly be a creativity killer, especially when used unnecessarily.

    Dear Tiffany, nice, in fact awesome, lovely. My motivation is getting up in the morning and trying to play the melody which is sailing, crossing my mind. Having a good coffee and starting to practice, and starting again, and again and again. Nice watching you, I think you send me the right message of feelings to practice day by day and getting each day a little closer, a little, little closer to what they call perfection, but what is in fact living the sound and music. Cheers Tiffany, well done. Don't leave the hard work to send out finally a wonderful message of music interrupted by silence an silence interrupted by waves and wings of music.
