- Dragonball fighterz was recently released on the Nintendo switch, but is it a good port?This video is my review of the new dbfz port on switch and aims to answer that exact question!

Just a couple of things I wanted to add on to the video!
- This is more of a port review, If you are brand new to fighterz and want to know if it is the game for you go check out some of the old game reviews! The port was handled really well so those should all apply to this version of the game as well!
- My experience with switch ports has been very poor so if I sound shocked that I enjoyed this one its because I was. Lowkey I really did expect this game to run like trash on the switch, but was pleasantly surprised with it!
- The controllers were by far my biggest issue, but thats coming from someone who has always hated the joycons. If you have more experience with them they may not be a problem for you at all. That said if your like me you may want to look into getting an adapter for your controller of choice.
- I didn't show any footage of the game undocked because I don't know how I would show that other than random cellphone footage which I don't think would've worked too well!

Comment that isn't related to the switch: you should check out desk's 17 combo video! It has the vanish whiff combo as well as some other CRAZY combos I never expected which would work with your team cause some of those combos need beam assist.

i get a hour break an usually one of my friends from work pulls out a switch to play a fighting game. i already own fighterz for the ps4,but i will be buying a switch and fighterz again because of the portability.
@@deethegamer8699 I get 30 minutes and it's definitely worth it I questioned it when I brought it but you're skills will stay sharp. A little advice buy a pro controller they are $70 but perfect for fighterz.

Jorge Cadme I feel like smash might be more worth the money tbh. Especially since there will be a larger player base for that game. Don't get me wrong, dragon ball fighterz is great, but if you're more into smash I'd probably just go with that. Or just get both if you can't make up your mind 😁

Good review, I've been playing it on my Switch since Wednesday, I also have it on PC and PS4. I've been playing with the Pro Controller and the Hori Fight Stick for Switch, I deleted the game off my PS4 yesterday :D
Definitely, they're a lot more comfortable to hold, can be a little iffy at times with the dpad but that's something you can get used to :D
Why did you delete ps4 version? Do you play online often?

Definitely gonna get it when I get the chance, I tried the open beta back when it was released and I got a really good impression out of it, and seeing you agree with me that it's a good port just helps me solidify my choice, so thanks for the review Doya! Can't wait for the next video ;)

This is to practice combos on the go and work people at airports/on the plane
I waited for the switch version since the game was announced and had to play it at friends... i knew it‘ll come and man, did the wait pay off. at some points you notice a slight fps dip but it never has interfered with the gameplay. BandaiNamco did an outstanding jop
I really wanted this port but I don't want to rebuy the DLC I already own.
That is an issue for a lot of people!

Nice review, DotoDoya! I was also very impressed with this port! At least at my side I don’t have the stutter issues in the lobby, and the simple combinations might be their way of a trend that I’ve seen in portable versions of fighting games like SSFIV 3D Edition for 3DS and the iOS SFIV where they have “shortcuts” to perform special moves and supers. Still, it is not my thing either.
An accessory that I would recommend for handheld mode is the Hori D-Pad left Joy-Con. I got it the same day DBFZ for Switch was release, and it works great!! I play DBFZ on PS4, and although I still prefer a controller with a good d-pad on it, this Hori d-pad joy-con works great when playing this game on the go. It’s very responsive and feels very good. It doesn’t have wireless capabilities, but for handheld mode it’s great! Way better than the regular left joy-con.
Yeah the "simple" controls thing seems like a big mistake, I feel like it confused more than it helped, idk what the plan was there, the controls are already really easy to pick up and learn

They know the joycons are crap that's why they made the simple mode
The one thing that killed me about Simple Controls was not realizing when or even hpw I toggled it on or off. Especially in Story Mode where I hit a shoulder button to activate it but have no clue what it did. The controls "magically" changed every other map until I FINALLY figured it out.
1:16 the part that shocked me was how the F*ck yamcha was going in on goku black...... super saiyan rose at that😂😂😂

I know this vid is over a year old, but man did you hit the nail on the head. Recently my girl got me a nintendo switch as a gift and I dont have as many connection issues as I do on my xbox one. I feel like the xbox version doesnt get as much love as the ps4 and let alone the switch. Sure there are drop in frames on some matches, but as you said, there are more good matches that make up for it imo, and of course no constant disconnection issues that I experience on the xbox one. All in all 9/10 worth the $16 since its on sale
I think the simple controls were trying to make is similar to the other nintendo fighting games. Directions and buttons is how Smash Bros and Pokken Tournament do it.
It is on sale on switch this week, I'm heavily considering whether i should buy it or not
Simple control mode is likely for people who do not have the capability to pull off the necessary button commands.
read DB manga times after times when I was young... As a 30 years old guy, this game brings me back to the old times when I was practing to perform “kamehameha”... One of the reasons for me to get a Switch.
The simple controls are because I don’t don’t know if it’s just me, but it’s hard to swipe to buttons to do a super, and this way it’s easier. But then you can’t do super vegetas dash kick where he does more than more than one kick.

The reason they added simple controls was due to the lack of buttons on a single joycon. If you play with one joycon and you don't turn on simple controls, there will be some commands you won't be able to perform. Simple controls was made for this reason.
I don't have a PS4 or a good PC and i wanted to experience fighting games other than Smash, i'm glad that the port is really good and i'm loving playing it (although, transitioning from Smash to DBFZ is a bit strange, i feel like i'm mashing a bit too much but hopefully i'll start understanding how the game works) it's just fun to play online and offline (i'm brazilian so there aren't many players on ranked mode but it's still fun to play and there isn't so much lag even when fighting someone from far away) i want to learn more about fighting games and i think DBFZ was a good place to start.

It's always good to have different options when it comes to fighting games, it's nice to have one for pure casuals.
Yeah, I'm not crazy about fighting games, but I love DBZ, so I really just wanted to play this game for the story. It's nice there's an option to make it easier for novice/young players.
The simple controls option matches the button combinations you perform when using a single joycon. Probably aimed to those who don't want to learn 2 different button configurations if they play in tabletop mode regularly.
I’m surprised they even decided to port it to the switch especially this late into the game.

the game is very polished looking and i am surprised how fun it is. i never played it in other console before and agree that joycon isn't the best for fighting game ( love the sf aniv collection but the input inaccuracy is a pain in the ass still). it looks and feel so much better than any of those marvel fighting games i played before. i think the only reason why this game looks so good is that the downgrade in resolution is harder to be noticed in cel shading graphic.
Dude I got dbfz on sale on the switch for $9. Simple controls are definitely for my wife and her friends that just want to see some flashy moves while mashing buttons

I find it hard to use controllers for fighting games i always assumed the joycons would be harder to use considering their size
It'slate but the Nintendo sells a Switch Pro Controller which is an actual controller so if you don't want the trash joy cons you can pick up the pro controller. It's a bit pricey but worth it

A lot of people tried telling me that FighterZ can’t work with 6 buttons but that’s far from the truth! I’ve been playing FighterZ with my old SNES controller for awhile and it works perfectly, which meant playing with one joycons wasn’t much different, albeit slightly smaller.
How did you get an SNES controller to work with your switch? I wanna try that.
quarter circles are not basic building blocks for fighting games. Dragon ball fighters tries to do away with them by simply having all characters have the same inputs, they only do different things. Meanwhile you have street fighter where 10 different characters with essentially a shoryuken inputted completely differently, or attacks that should not have such an input has the same inputt or reverse version of it.
Inputting motion just to do a special attack has always been such an old remnant from the arcade to me. There are games out there who make do without having these motion inputs.
Sorry, i got triggered. Its one of those things I keep thinking about in fighting games, and why we still feel like having them.

Motion inputs in fighting games are definitely outdated remnants from arcade days, fighting games need to start giving options to move away from them like this.
The joy cons don’t register diagonal movements very well. Which is bad for blocking low or for extending combos. Dpad is recommended if your joy con has a dpad lol

@@dexsea24 the base game was 15 bucks, and the ultimate version was 30, and the dlc packs were both 12. I bought the ultimate version (usually 100 bucks) for 37, and DLC pack 2 for 12 (usually 25). All in all I spent 50 bucks for the game, extra features, and both dlc packs. Good deal.

Simple controls is clearly for playing with single joycon it’s practically a necessity having only 1 trigger for left and 1 for right. How you gonna dragon rush and super dash with one right trigger? 🤔 think about that lol.
Well, you can superdash and Dragon rush like charging Ki and vanish, only it's with H+S and M+L

Yo the simple controls are an accessability feature for people who physically cant do a quarter circle. Not neccisarily for beginners
I got this myself and I have been enjoying the hell out of it! I use the pro controller so I can pull off most of everything
I use simple controls because i hate mashy games,and fighterZ felt mashy to me,but i want to enjoy a good DBZ fighting game on switch,and it kinda reminds me of the Budokai games,and its easier to me personally to controll

I haven't tried online or simple controls, so the main thing that bugs me is how some supers, especially level 3's, cause the graphics quality to drop MASSIVELY. Just use Base Goku's Kaioken and see what I mean, the quality turns to shit until a few seconds after the move ends.

really want to get this game but I'm not the type of guy that rushes to buy $60 games, and this game shouldn't even cost that much, it came out back in January. PLUS, I'm paying extra cash if I want the full roster. I'm spending A LOT for just one game.

My problem was ( I will have the switch tomorrow not today ) can play it with one stick and you showed me that it is really possible
I am the only one who get alot of software error, causing the game to close and bringing me back to the home menu ? It's so, sooo frustrating. It happens a lot in the training mode.
I cant beat arcade mode on the last difficulty cause it always crashes
I just bought it, loving it so far!! But I did notice something on my swich, neither the joy cons nor the pro controller rumble on any mode, docked or table top. Anybody with the same issue? Any workarounds?

I have a problem doing super dashes because of the pro controller when you flick one direction it goes the other way so sometimes I can't do 2 in a row

So my biggest problem. The characters. The game gives u a chunk of the original fighters. The great ones or favorite characters are downloads/purchases....at 5bucks for each character... that price on top of the original price paid for the game is way to much...cause who can get away with only buying 1 D-character....wish they would though in ss4 vageta and goku....
meanwhile im still over here unable to initialize the network to get online, even though the pc version works just fine
Your pointing out that it runs smooth undocked. There is no hw in the dock to give the switch more power fyi^^
Games often run notably worse undocked, though, with lower frame rates etc.- it's not that the dock has more hardware to power it, it's that the Switch itself has to work harder and on a smaller screen when undocked instead of just outputting the visuals to a TV.
So with the sideways Joy-Con, the SL & SR buttons are assist? I hoped they would make SL Dragon Rush, SR Super Dash and bind the assists to L/R and ZL/ZR...
Good thing I finally got it on sale I kept seeing it on sale on PS4 and never got it but today I saw it in Switch with a lot of the DLC on sale and its not that bad but the joycon directional buttons are annoying to do fireball moves in handheld plus the R button cramps my index finger and those are the move I have to do the most to get better in the game. I am using a Dualshock 4 which is way better than the joycons in Dock mode. I have notice in some cutscenes like all Unreal Engines from the past that the textures dont load fast enough but that's my only other gripe.

I havent played online yet, as I want to at least finish the Story mode before doing so (I suck at traditional fighting games, so that is a must), so I can't say anything about that just yet. As for playing with a single Joy-Con...I don't really like it. If I'm player 1 for instance, I would like to be able to map commands to the L and ZL buttons, rather than having it be a relative cluster-fuck.
