Beryl Gray had a body so in tune with todays dancer. The cuts between the two different generations of dancer was seamless.

hi Gari. your comment reminds me that that was also said about Felia Doubrovska - a long sleek body

This video was lovely to watch. I've always liked Grey, not so much Helpmann, though. Thank you for posting this.

Glad you enjoyed it! I always liked Grey too - Helpmann can be a little over-theatrical which gets in the way of truly expressing character and true and telling
      movement

Thank you! John, have you seen a footage of Pierina Legnani anywhere? I have years ago, it was owned by an English man. I've seen nothing since. Does anyone know any of footage of her?

her last performance was in 'La Camargo' on January 28, 1901 - so i doubt if any film exists - but i'll ask around :)

I think the film I saw was of 1900, but I am not sure, it was years ago. I remember she was very good but it was a very bad film.

she would only have been 37 in 1900 so would have still been very good, as you say. it would be fascinating is any film exists. I found what is most likely the only footage of Lydia Ivanova, Balanchine’s first muse in the film ‘Dvorets i krepost’ (1923) - so maybe footage exists of Legnani

Hello I am trying to trace a dancer with the Royal Ballet from 1960s called Derek Crowther, have you come across him in any of your footage ? Many thanks
