    I have never followed any lent traditions. So interesting the history about the taverns hanging herring as a reminder.
    Monika- The quinoa salad looks fantastic. And the lentil soup looks fantastic that even the baby loved.

    I loved your vegan menu for a day ! The morning juice with the blueberries, the oats and the vanilla powder is a really good option to start the day with energy! Your quinoa salad looks beautiful with all the vegetables you mixed and its colors ! I removed meat from my diet because I feel a bit tired, with less energy everytime I eat it, so to get the protein I need this delicious lentil soup you made is a good option ! Really good to know more about your traditions ! See you soon 😋👩🏻‍🍳👏🏼👍🏼

    This is such an interesting video sharing the cultural divergences around Ash Wednesday.. We have a tradition here that we give up something we enjoy for lent. It can be a food or an activity. For example one year I gave up all bread and flour products, another year meat and yet another year all shopping except for needed groceries. I think the shopping was the hardest. LOL

      Traditionally in Poland there was a strict fasting, in modern days it is still important but not as hard core. We do not party, no big events (ans I am not talking about Covid times). Usually people restrain themself from one thing, like not drinking, but kids also do not eat sweets (as much). I think we have similar idea, this year for me it will be meat and sweets I think 🤔 still have few days to make this decision.
      My problem is baked goodies!!! LOL

    I do lent every year and just give up one or two things I really enjoy. This was fun to see what you eat during these times. That quinoa salad I could eat every day, very yummy!

    This was so interesting to see what people in Poland do. We here have Fat Tuesday. I don’t know many people who fast here, though I do know a ton of people who give meat up for lent or at least on Fridays during lent. I love your recipes you gave us as a suggestion.

    Hi Monika! I actually fast every week day (and give myself a break at the weekends) and I have cut out most of the carbs (not gone full keto though), which is something I have done before with great success in the past, and so far I have dropped 3.4kg in 2 weeks. I just find the older we get the harder it is to process those carbs, with the metabolism slowing down. So it is really great to see this kind of content! Love it! 😘

      @polishmamacooks1019  Před 3 lety +1

      WOW!!!! You are so strong! I love carbs and bread!!!! Congratulations on 3,4 kg - I need to start!!! one thing- the smoothies that I make are a great help in the morning for me- I have never ever been on a diet in my life, for Lent I would just not eat meat, or chocolate or cakes etc. But after two kids it is time for me to go on one- I think!

      @@polishmamacooks1019 It's why I do fasting instead of a strict diet, as it is more of a lifestyle change than anything, and once you get adapted it is really easy to stick to. If you can do it, I wholeheartedly recommend it, as there are so many other benefits, besides the weight loss, that comes with it.

    It's okay with the Church if you don't fast in Poland during Lent? The only time it happened here is when St. Patrick's day wound up on a Friday and we were given special dispensation to celebrate. I follow the fast all year on Friday's as my Grandfather said his family from Poland did so. Love your taste tester - assistant. Happy Holidays.

      Hi, hmmm how do I put it... I know that it is encouraged by Polish Catholic religion to fast, pray and spend calm time during Lent. When it comes to fasting I think staying away from pleasures - chocolate, sweets, alcohol, parties etc. is enough.
      Yes there are also days when you can get dispensation exactly like you said. My grandma also did not eat meat on Friday - it was not fasting it was more no meat day, but she did it every Friday- I try!!! Thank you very much! Happy Holidays !
