WW2 Bunker Stealth Camp / Busted by the Cops!!!!! /

  • The plan was to find and spend the night in a coastal WW2 machine gun bunker ........... but plans don't always go as you expect 😆
The "just three words" locations of the two pillboxes I decided were "campable" are :
    Pillbox 1 : ///sometimes.goofy.quilting
    Pillbox 2 : ///sneezed.convey.laces
I would recommend you park at the Rattray Head lighthouse car-park or get someone to drop you off if you intend to do an overnight at these locations.

Its always the darned car. This is why I don't camp much. leaving a car somewhere is always a problem. Towing, vandals and thieves. Best to hike, bike or just get dropped off.

I often just hike in, however in many years of using the car and leaving it overnight all over Scotland this is the first time I have ever had a problem - and Ironically I was 3 miles from home!

@@buzz5969 Yep - I regularly bike in and get dropped off, I didn't park there for the drama - I genuinely believed it wouldn't be a problem as I had parked there before when walking my dog and it was literally miles from the gas plant.

Luckily nobody bothered me but I was up in the morning but yes the car……the fuzz are paranoid about parked cars they think everyone should be home tucked up in bed like little children. Here we simply don’t have that problem as it’s so remote and everyone goes fishing overnight or to a remote cabin. Nobody worries about cars and you can leave a note at worst case.

Seems like overzealous policing to me but these are uncertain times. If they went past your car several times and it was still there one can understand their concern not just because someone could be a potential terrorist but because the owner of the car was nowhere near it in the middle of the night.
Cool to camp in the old pill box, ours look so inferior to the German ones but as you said in the commentary it was just to slow things down, the reality of any invasion would be the pill boxes being take out in no time at all.

Why on earth up here in Scotland you would camp anywhere near somewhere that could get you lifted is beyond insanity. We've access to the best wild camping in the UK and it's free, unrestricted and you'll never get any grief from anyone. This just seems deliberately antagonistic. Why would anyone want to wild camp next to a shitty gas plant patrolled by MOD when you've got the most beautiful forest's and mountains on your doorstep to camp in hassle free is mental.

    • @theinvisiblecamper
      @theinvisiblecamper  Před 8 měsíci +5

I take your point but - I was no where near the gas plant and was on pubic access land at all times, I am interested in history and wanted to see and stay in the WW2 bunker which I couldn't move to a different location. I camp all over Scotland year round and this is the only hassle I have had in many years - and the hassle was manly down to a police Scotland officer who appears to have got the wrong end of the stick - the MOD police were quite happy and were mildly interested why my car was where it was. I like to mix it up as far as my locations and have camped in plenty of forests and glens too - I will be paying more attention to where I park my vehicle in future though!

It is healthy to go mental sometimes! And it is great fun too.
I loved the video, it was even very educational. It is not because you don't get it, that stealthcamping isn't a great thing to do.

Scotland has some amazing long beaches, really good for touring with a fat bike. I stayed near there in the dunes on a tour a couple of years ago. Probably just far enough away - was not bothered. Car was in Inverbervie. They can be a bit arsey around Peterhead power station too.
You dont need to be near strategic energy infrastructure to be hassled, during the photographer = terrorist paranoia of the 2000s, I had four home visits for photographing farmland. Was under orders to inform Police before taking any photographs of scenery. Aye right!
Been quiet the past 10 years though.

Sounds lihe Old Bill were a bit 'disproportionate' in their approach. I hope your going yo stick in a complaint? Because it sounds as though someone needs a bit of training in dealing with members of the public.

It's not just in Scotland, many other areas of the UK too, lots of examples of law abiding citizens being treated badly especially since the whole convid restrictions.

Why do these guys seem to have fetish for army surplus camouflage.
I am ex military, and never wear camo, got the t shirt, got video, move on with your life.

The game is stealth camping. I don't believe he has a sexual paraphilia for wearing camo. I think he doesn't want to draw attention to himself whilst "stealth camping"

By these guys I guess you mean Me - I wear surplus gear because it is good hard wearing kit, it is cheap to buy and the camo helps you blend in to the background which is the whole point of stealth camping. Oh yes I'm also ex military and never saw it as "getting the shirt" - I don't wear camo gear round the house, but when its the right kit for the job I do. Thanks for your comment.
