I still don’t know if I even fully understand the difference between anxiety and stress. If I’m all tense because I know my neighbor’s dog is once again going to bark all night, that’d be anxiety, right? But if I’m trying to finish a giant dog catapult before dark and it looks like I won’t make it, that’s stress, right?

@@derrickrr5516 Funny comment. 😄 As for the difference, I'm not completely sure what stress is defined as, but anxiety seems to be an unnecessary or excessive activation of the fight or flight response. I actually met Joey Votto when I was working in the mall. At first, he was very quiet and had this calming demeanor of minding his own business, like every other professional athlete that walks in and out. Completely understandable!!
I approached him if he needed any help like any other store employee attending every customer. I just quickly said that I’m a big fan of his but out of respect, I’ll leave you alone so you can be in and out. He actually appreciated that I recognized him under the mask (Covid times) and actually gave me the time of day which was really cool. He also offered a picture which I was not expecting but I did not pass him up on it. He wished me well in school and I wished him well on this upcoming season.
All in all, not just a great ball player but an awesome, genuine person. I’m not even a Reds fan but I will always cheer him on. Glad to see that this video is showing every casual baseball fan who Joey Votto is outside of the baseball field. He actually is as genuine as advertised.

Only a quarter of the way through the vid, so I figured I'd hit the comments with my Votto story during the ad break.
My family has enjoyed going to a different MLB stadium every year. So far I've seen nearly 20 of them. Of course the one's out west, (especially for a Reds fan), are kind of a big deal for us. Dodger Stadium being the Holy Grail. We finally made it out there the year my big brother graduated high school.
Of course my family got tickets for when the Reds made a trip out west. Not usual for us, so it was a bit of a treat to see our boys in a stadium so coveted to us. We got there early in the pregame, nearly kicked out for pregaming the parking lot, (this was right after that poor Giants fan got beat to death in the parking lot, so I can understand Dodgers security being a bit apprehensive about fans partying out there), and we're right behind the Reds dugout, first base line for some reason at Dodger Stadium. I'm not an autograph hound and never have been. In fact, I find fuckers praying for autographs all game to be particularly annoying, (looking at you San Diego fans), but it was during warm-ups and who else but Joey comes strolling up to the end of the dugout. This was in a particular part of Joey's career when he really wasn't too crazy about signings before games, or really ever for that matter.
My parents encouraged me to head down there so I dragged my older brother down there for a bit of muscle. Joey is absolutely mobbed by Dodgers fans, and Giants fans ironically enough, to have him sign cards and random shit they thought would be valuable. Of course some boys from the Midwest aren't gonna muscle our way through a crowd like that. So all looked at Joey and said, "Mr. Votto, we loved you with the Dragons, (our loyal A ball affiliate with the Reds), It's a pleasure to see you out West." Joey reached his lumbering arm over the entire crowd of people and reaches for my hat, signs it, tosses it over to me, and looks at me and points to my brother. I immediately grabbed my brother's hat off his damn head and tossed it to him. After those two autographs, Joey heads back into the dugout and leaves me and my brother absolutely speechless. Still to this very day I can't believe what a stand-up guy Joey is. This was before he started to let his goofier side show and approaching him for most people was rightfully rather intimidating. Joey went out of his way to make our game special for a few local fans from back in his early days who cherished his time in our little city. I'll never forget that. Probably the most magical baseball experience of my entire life. What a funny sport it can be.
Anyways, that's my blog post. I'll really miss the day that Joey isn't playing that corner. I remember the likes of Scott Hatteberg out there. But having a living legend as your first baseman and watching him every step of the way was something really special. You'll never see another Red like him again. Here's to the HOF Joey, you earned it.

The Reds are my favorite team and Votto is one of my favorite players of all time. His interviews with Jim Day are hilarious and insightful.
I think he is a 1st ballot HOF. The fact he is always experimenting with different ways to improve his game in the off-season says it all. The reason he took breakdancing lessons this past off-season was to improve his overall balance when on the field.
He is a legend who carved out his own path in the MLB.
