This movie is so funny. It has so many plot twists and so many funny scenes. All the actors here work so well together. A lot of chemistry. Jodie and Mel look so good here. Definitively this movie is very underrated.
I absolutely ADORE this film, and I must say that in all the movies ever made: every Romance, every Adventure, every Western, whatever - Mrs. Annabelle Bransford is THE most delightfully feminine, engaging and lovely female lead that has EVER graced the Silver Screen. Jodie is SO magnetic, so beautiful and hilarious in this film it is utterly impossible to not fall absolutely in love with her.
Mel Gibson is the reason Robert Downy Jr has a career now, look it up. Regardless of the media exposure of one drunk mistake, he's still a fantastic actor.
Of course he is an incredible actor. How many years did he convince the general public that he didn't have an hollow, ugly, charred soul? That's some incredible acting.
I love how the whole purpose of losing for the first hour was to pick up on each player's "tells" so that when he started really playing he would have the advantage.
Digital is better . They can shoot longer scenes. They can hide cameras or mount cameras a lot easier . I know an Emmy-award winning make-up and special effects artist . He says that the digital cameras are so good, he has to powder up actors more b/c the camera picks up so much detail that the actors look angry all the time b/c of the lines in their faces. Old classics are DIGITALLY remastered. That tells you digital is better right there. They digitally remastered Once Upon A TIme in the West and it looked incredible. 22 years ago is really not a long time to admire quality of films. Panoramavision has been around a long time then.
This one is already a digital format, I bet. I'm suggesting the celluloid in the 20's must be bad by now. Most of the stuff you see now are already digital conversion done years ago. And digitally remastered. Never mind the audio part.
Ya know this scene actually exemplifies one of the keys to being a professional gambler. Pro’s like Doyle Brunson, and Phil Ivey have both said that you shouldn’t just look to get good action, but to give it as well. If people have fun with you, and you pay them a bit, they’ll want to keep playing with you, and you’ll increase your long term profit because of it.
Jodie Foster is so drop-dead gorgeous it's heartbreaking. --In the summer of '95, I met her while riding my bike along " The Strand" in Redondo & Manhattan Beach. She had on cut-off jeans, a blue T-shirt, a baseball cap, & no makeup, but I recognized her right away. She was gorgeous. Her face is flawless. ---------------Wolfsky9, 70 y/o
Highly underrated poker film! While statistically possible: Trip 8's vs straight flush vs a Royal Flush. 3-handed all-in the odds of this happening are about 1 in 220,000,000 for that to happen on a poker table, especially with 5 card stud. Movie magic never felt so right. The hate-flirting between Mel and Jodie was hilarious xD
My favorite movie, I remember when I was a kid, my parents often watched it on VHS. The nice movie, Mel Gibson is great, and all these actors are great too!

Liam Redmond Obviously I am a lot more insightful in you than you are yourself.(And no, I am not exactly patting myself on the back for noting something THAT obvious.) And do you really think that would make your remark any less .... silly??? And you are very welcome! Let's hope it provided you with some, obviously much needed, insight in your own world views.:-)
Liam Redmond LOL And you really do think that reply was both a clever comeback (incorrectly using one of the most used American commonplaces) as well as somehow makes your remark less ridiculous, don't you? Even now you still don't get exactly why your comment was and is asinine..and on more than one level to boot! If I were you , I wouldn't spread the facts of your age and heritage that freely. You don't do yourself any favours letting us know you are well past your teens and you certainly don't do Ireland any favours either by demonstrating what foolish sons it has as well.. The end part of this scene when Maverick is intimidated by John Hardin confused me for years, until the internet came along and cleared up the confusion. John Hardin was one of the most notorious outlaws in the old west, with him bragging about having murdered 40+ men with the newspapers saying he killed around 27. In reality we don't really know how many people he killed, but he certainly was one mean murderer.
@@015Froggy most people who went out west didn't kill or steal. Many of them just wanted a plot of land so that they can farm and raise cattle and stuff like that.
