    Great explanations. Also, I appreciate your suggestion to dissect and learn. I've been fiddling with and trying to fix mistakes instead of learning from them.

    My pottery teacher lets us finish every ball of clay. Maybe she thinks it’s giving us a feeling of success. I secretly ‘mess up’ so I can practice centering...I’d like to cut some of my pieces to check wall thickness and evenness.

    Hey Dara, great info I just started a class and MAN it aint as easy as it looks. What is the weight of the clay you are using for these cylinders? Would you mind mentioning that at the beginning of each? Nevertheless I LOVE the way you teach. Thanks for the info!

    Can you re-wedge that ball clay once you've sliced the pot down the centre or is it best to start with a new ball of clay?

    • @DaraGreen
      @DaraGreen  Před 3 lety +2

      Absolutely! You can rewedge it until it is too wet to use. Then you just need to dry it out a bit and use it more!

    Do you start putting pressure with both hands right away or do you wait till the outside hand reaches where the inside hand is? Because the outside hand is always a little lower than the inside hand because the inside of the pot has more height. So it just seems like if you started putting pressure on both hands at the same time your two fingers wouldn't evenly be meeting up together because the outside hand is all the way at the bottom. Sorry if my question is confusing

    How tall should your cylinder be after 3 pulls?

  • @joysmith1213

    Do you start pulling up on the outside from the very bottom edge? I have trouble finding out where to pull from the outside, thanks so much!

    • @DaraGreen
      @DaraGreen  Před 5 lety +4

      The very bottom. Your outside finger tip actually remains a bit below your inside finger tip while throwing a cylinder. I hope that helps!

    hey, what do you do with the clay of the pot that you cut in half? do you just throw it away?

    What weight of clay ball do you recommend for this practice?

    • @DaraGreen
      @DaraGreen  Před 3 lety +2

      Couple pounds. Enough that you can hold on to it without your grip getting wet.
