- Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you how I converted a high-low hem on this dress into a straight hem, as per my customer's wishes. I am so thankful for this video. I had an alteration to do on a similar hem a few days ago. The hem was not even and I had a challenge. Most mass produced garments are not accurately measured. Clients think alterations are all easy and most of them can’t sew either.
Yes, not a lot of people are aware of the work and thought that goes into these alterations!

My friend as a scoliose and her spine is curved like an "s", so her dress is much longer on one side, I was wondering how to correct it and here you come exactly when I need your experience. I really like the dress both ways actually... I like hemlines that are asymmetrical because I find them more interesting, but love the end results as well. Totally appreciate the extra information because when it comes to higher hips, one of my own is higher and I struggle with a lot of uneven-ness in my body... these are things I never really consider when I alter my own clothing for my body, and I am sure they would make a major difference in the end results. Thanks for putting the extra time into these style videos. Greatly appreciated!

The dress is much prettier straight imo. I don't follow trends even if designers insist that they are still in style. I always learn something new when you explain the process as you work, please continue.

I love to watch your alterations. I have only been sewing about 4 years. To make extra money (on SS) I started taking in alterations. Whew! I guess you can believe the different kinds of clothes I have gotten. If it were not for you and a few others, I would be in the mental home. lol Thank you so much. I love the skirt of that dress, especially the way it appears to have more back gathering from the shirring, it looks bustle-ish, i also like it better level. Personally, I can’t say i’m a fan of that style of bodice. Thats just my opinion though. It looks perfect fine on a lot of people, just not me 😬

Very cute dress, and your video is helpful and informative as always. It looks way better with the straight hem, but then again, I'm not a fan of a high/low hemline. I think they usually look strange.

Please do a video on increasing on sleeve of blouse to accommodate a Lymphodema arm. I usually take what I can from placket and insert gusset from bustline to underarm then bottom of sleeve.
I think I'd do it exactly the same way you are describing it. I'll see if I can find a shirt that needs this kind of job. Cheers 🙂
I just discovered your channel and I love your tips! I would love to see the method for updating a woman’s blouse by removing the collar and changing to to simple V neckline. I’m talking about basic, long-sleeves business shirts - the kind with buttons down the front and standard cuffs with buttons. I have three or four like this that I’d like to update. I also noticed that the hem of the newer shirts are slightly more rounded and a tiny bit shorter. The sleeves are also shorter. I’ve been working on one shirt. I removed the collar and cut a new neckline, but I can see that the new shape will be saggy. Do you have any videos on doing something like this??? I would love to see the proper way to do it so it doesn’t look like - well, like I did it. 😀

I love all your tutorials and how to adjust clothing and how to do them a different way I saved every single one of your videos but I do have a question I am doing some leggings and my client wants the leggings one pair to have lace from the hip all the way down to the ankle but the seam of the leggings are only on the inside they are not on the outside so how would I add lace to the leggings that don't have scenes on the outside if I make them from a pattern I would really like to help with that
Hi Carol! Thanks. To insert the lace you need to create a seam at the sides. Then reduce the width of the lace and add the seam allowance. For example if you want to insert a 2" wide lace. Reduce front and back pattern by 1". After, add the seam allowance.

When I prepare to hem, I lay the dress or shirt down side seam to side seam, pin then cut. Is this correct
Yes. It is correct for the most part. The only thing is that it doesn't take into count the particular differences between bodies (hips, derriere, etc). Anyway, a good trick is to make it about 3/8" longer at the center back. I hope this helps 😊

I really dislike any hems other than straight ones. I especially don't like a longer back hem on a shirt these days.
