Kudos to your reaction. Saeed. We heard so many wonderful things in this song, but one of the most amazing things I noticed was the silence. JC had every single person’s attention and when he went to start a new phrase, nobody made a move. It was so quiet you could hear a rat pee on cotton. Glad you enjoyed it.

Definitely, its not easy to get a crowd so silent. Very powerful.

This was great! You should also listen to the recorded version. In that one, it starts with a recorded bit of Yebba singing the song (which was Jacob's inspiration). In that, Jacob himself is all of the background vocals. Seeing Tori replicate those runs in a live setting was really fantastic (and, of course, the smooth vocals of John Legend...yum).

The keyboard was the result of when MIT Media dept. reached out to JC said they liked what he was doing and offered to build something to help him continue to create. It has a mic input which allows Jacob to choralize his voice (matching his tambre) for as many keys as he can hold down.
It was first shown when he played with Snarky Puppy on his song “Don’t You Know”.

not sure it was mit. It really was Ben, who happened to be at mit. I think

Tori Kelly is astonishing ①. Maybe react to _Jacob Collier-Little Blue |@MahoganySessions_ czcams.com/video/IQvzX0Z3HE4/video.html it is more delicate, only a guitar and voices. The 'choir' are fans who responded to his invitation to meet *_later the same day_* at that venue. They met him, learned the song, rehearsed and performed it, all in about 2 hours. A few _are_ professional musicians (eg. Dodie), most aren't. It's the most comforting song I've ever heard 😂(and I'm old).

① Jacob Collier created his "Bridge Over Troubled Water" arrangement, and studio performances in the 4 days before handing over the completed master for Djesse volume 4. Tory Kelly had one hour free to learn and sing her parts. Listen to his covers of All Night Long and Moon River and for original songs, Witness Me and Little Blue. But that's just the start.

Your pronunciation of 'Collier' was very good. English term for a coal miner or coal-carrying ship.
The keyboard instrument (harmonizer) was custom-built by Ben Bloomberg (while a post PhD at MIT). It may be easy to think of it as a synthesiser, but it uses his voice as the sound source, instead of a pure tone. So each note sounds like his voice. Hence he can 'sing' chords live. Previously, he could only do chords in a studio by recording his voice many times and layering them. HTH. To me, the studio recordings are more beautiful. However, he needs a way to perform live, so the harmonizer does it.

Oh wow! Thanks so much for sharing that info. What an incredible merging of voice and instrument.

@@SaeedReacts. Thank you for replying. The harmonizer is one of those ideas that are 'obvious' *after* it's been invented. 😀 Apparently, it is very hard to play because most singers 'hunt' (slightly adjusting their pitch to find the correct note) for a brief time when they start to sing a note or phrase. Apparently the harmonizer exaggerates that, making it much more audible. As you likely know, Jacob Collier has unusually precise perfect pitch (to about 5% of a semitone). He immediately hits the note he wants, and doesn't "hunt". So, few singers can benefit from using a harmonizer as much as him.
