no one has to "buy a ps4" for the game. there are over 117 million ps4s out there. the largest instal base for any platform currently. It released for free on on ps4 and sega considered it a success.

Tekken doesn't only have better presentation, the combat gameplay is also much easier to get into. It has deep mechanics but on the surface, it's pretty easy to understand the gameplay and do cool stuff.
Fighting games are already niche, and Virtua Fighter is a fighting game in its purest form. So fine tuned, deep and complex. It just doesn't hold casual players' attention. Even me, who loves fighting games, didn't wanna stick with it cuz even if I learn it, who am I going to play with? It's playerbase is on a steep decline. I think the series needs a VF6, and it absolutely has to mix things up.
I think what you touched on is key. Tekken characters have distinct personalities and identifiable traits. To a non gamer, I could explain each character & probably get someone interested enough to pick at least 1 in Tekken, shit even in MK. In VF, I think the only people you can really appeal to are hardcore fg fans or martial arts fans/practitioners.
It's never done that well worldwide because Sega were always catering to the Japanese arcade audience where it had been the biggest fighter until VF5. The console ports were bare bones until VF4 and exclusive to Sega consoles that failed limiting the audience. But again the arcade was what mattered to them. Right now there still only really catering to Japan and there it seems to be doing ok. The Japanese players are on CZcams rather than twitch though.

It’s damaging their reputation, which is already a shadow of what it used to be, which will inherently have an impact on the sales of the next game. They’re dropping the ball already, and the new game hasn’t even been announced yet.
@@The_Buff_Guy It would've been a lot worse for them business wise to sink millions of dollars into a whole new game. Sega's biggest downside is their marketing. Especially in the west. This game just randomly dropped on the playstation store for most. If it hadn't been on the PS plus monthly games, most people wouldn't have noticed it. So they spent their time on a project that ultimately was to gauge on whether or not people would be interested in the VF franchise and it seems like they got the results they wanted. I love VF5US, but it needs to ramp up the presentation and especially the marketing.
I really feel bad for the devs of VF. They put a lot of effort to make a game with good and balanced gameplay, just for it to get played by 100 people. I have no idea how they make enough profit off their games to survive that long tbh. Mainman is very right though. If their presentation was better, so many more people would play it. The reality is that with most games the first impression (usually the visuals) will determine whether people will give the game a chance or not. If it looks good, people are more likely to give it a shot. But if it looks bad, most people won't even bother with it. This basically means that people won't even find out about VF's great gameplay because they are too put off by their visuals and sfx in the first place. It's really sad. But as TMM said, if they are not willing to improve on that issue, it will never change.
They've only really put effort into pushing it in Japan as they've done for the rest of the series. Apparently the Japanese players mainly play on CZcams so TMM going on about Twitch everytime is misleading. It seems to be paying off in Japan to an extent but they've never really tried to cater for a worldwide audience for the series.
I like to say that the animations are also the best. The sound effects are legacy yes lol but I think it gives the game character to me lol. Idk man, game looks fine to me. Me myself wouldn't say T7 looks too much better then this game, really.

Virtua Fighter fans are like cultists. You can point out obvious flaws with the series to fans like TMM does here and it will run off them like rain on a raincoat. They won't accept anything but "the game is too hard for the casuals" as an answer to why this series bombs over and over. I actually don't think VF fans wants the series to do well. The sound effects and voice acting don't really bother me because fighting game have been reusing assets all the time but I do agree they should've done more to up the pizazz so to speak They essentially made this game as a test to see if people care about VF and the PS+ trail period apparently did better than they expected so they said VF6 is likely. That being said, if VF6 does improve on the weaknesses that current VF suffers from, while not taking away its identity, then there's potential to bounce back. But it really hurts to see VF being in Tekken's shadow. In a way Tekken killed off its competitors and now the other games are either completely dead or have to piggy back off of Tekken. Sad to see

Both game series are extremely deep, it's just that VF never nailed the "cool" factor I'm a DOA player and I prefer VF, and I could never adjust to Tekken 7's movement it just feels awful to play but I'll give credit to anyone that can play it well
TMM, are you *actually* familiar with this series? VF3 and 4 had *great* visuals that rivaled Tekken at the time. TK even copied VF's idea for walled stages and destructible environments. VF5 is a 15 year old game, and trashing its presentation now is pointless. The reason VF failed was because of lacking content, more difficult to play, and focusing more on realism in gameplay.
@@tabkg5802 In terms of combat animations, VF is definitely more realistic than TK to this day. Much more fluid striking with a better sense of momentum. More realistic technique. Vf didn't even add the long combos until Final Showdown.
The main problem is, they didn't focus on catching people's eyes, and became obscure. Now VF is pretty much dead, and I have no hopes of seeing a new title.

The only outdated sound effect in Tekken is the movement sound(jump, walk, knockdown) that you never hear unless you playing without music and voices. Presentation is terrible? When the intro shows you a character from another game who is the part of the story, every dlc trailer is hype and attractive af. Show your parents s3 trailer and ask them did they hyped if your brain can't able process these things. And not even talking about visual effects(slow motion, cross, RD, RA etc.). The graphics sucks, music is mostly using same instruments and maybe we can consider game modes as the minuses of the game. But even with that, Tekken is way superior than VF.
I can tell the difference between every single game in both series, but even if you've never played VF, you will have to try REALLY hard to pretend to not tell the difference between Ultimate Showdown and VF3, because US uses sound effects that were new to Final Showdown and the sound quality is considerably worse in VF3, maybe you'd have trouble diffentiating between vanilla VF5 and the two extension to VF4 because they do use the exact same sfx (kinda like Tekken 4 and 5), including the announcer, but nobody plays them anymore plus they have very different music.

The game STILL feels clunky (like in 2006) and the sounds don't help. I would play any fighting game out there (even VF) just because I can and its fun but...the thing is I would probably drop VF in 15 min due to presentation. Unlike others fgs that ended up playing for a couple of weeks or even months before returning to my main fgs.

Way better business move than this. All they’re doing here is making themselves look incompetent (which we know they aren’t, but it sure looks that way at the moment). It’s damaging their reputation, which is already a shadow of what it used to be, which will inherently have an impact on the sales of the next game. They’re dropping the ball already, and the new game hasn’t even been announced yet.
@@The_Buff_Guy It would've been a lot worse for them business wise to sink millions of dollars into a whole new game. Sega's biggest downside is their marketing. Especially in the west. This game just randomly dropped on the playstation store for most. If it hadn't been on the PS plus monthly games, most people wouldn't have noticed it. So they spent their time on a project that ultimately was to gauge on whether or not people would be interested in the VF franchise and it seems like they got the results they wanted. I love VF5US, but it needs to ramp up the presentation and especially the marketing.

I really feel bad for the devs of VF. They put a lot of effort to make a game with good and balanced gameplay, just for it to get played by 100 people. I have no idea how they make enough profit off their games to survive that long tbh. Mainman is very right though. If their presentation was better, so many more people would play it. The reality is that with most games the first impression (usually the visuals) will determine whether people will give the game a chance or not. If it looks good, people are more likely to give it a shot. But if it looks bad, most people won't even bother with it. This basically means that people won't even find out about VF's great gameplay because they are too put off by their visuals and sfx in the first place. It's really sad. But as TMM said, if they are not willing to improve on that issue, it will never change.
1) Downloads actually exceeded expectations. 2) The visuals don't even look bad. It just focuses more on realism than TK.
Also, this is literally a reskin of a 15 year old game. Let's wait until VF6 before judging their willingness to improve.
Also if it would come out on PC (where are important FGs are being played).

They've only really put effort into pushing it in Japan as they've done for the rest of the series. Apparently the Japanese players mainly play on CZcams so TMM going on about Twitch everytime is misleading. It seems to be paying off in Japan to an extent but they've never really tried to cater for a worldwide audience for the series.

Virtua Fighter fans are like cultists. You can point out obvious flaws with the series to fans like TMM does here and it will run off them like rain on a raincoat. They won't accept anything but "the game is too hard for the casuals" as an answer to why this series bombs over and over.
I actually don't think VF fans wants the series to do well. Because then the series will be "mainstream" and then they can't claim to be hipster rebels in their own little elite fighting game bubble.

They said downloads was main goal to see interest in VF and surveys to get feedback. Sega and sony higher ups are happy and VF6 is basically in works, this game is 15 years old so expect big changes and innovations in 6(that tekken will likely adopt also again lol)

And it was a success actually and the Sega anddd Sony execs were pleased so now AM2 can get resources and budget it needed to actually make A proper VF6 after 15 years. I don't get what's "ugly" about VF, it's a great game and it's not only casuals that are avoiding it, it's actual fgc members who said they'd support but never followed up on it and because of that, games like this always end up with a smaller fanbase
People kept saying that if it came to other platforms, specifically steam, that they would play it? I highly doubt that because I remember the same situation happened with fighting EX Layer and nobody followed up on playing it despite being initially hyped for a SFEX revival in some form

I mean that's the reason, it may be a great game in depth of its gameplay but it lacks style and presentation plus netcode is terrible. Of course hardcore fans will always support the game but you gotta be objective and recognize the flaws of the game in order to fix it.

The sound effects and voice acting don't really bother me because fighting game have been reusing assets all the time but I do agree they should've done more to up the pizazz so to speak
They essentially made this game as a test to see if people care about VF and the PS+ trail period apparently did better than they expected so they said VF6 is likely.
That being said, if VF6 does improve on the weaknesses that current VF suffers from, while not taking away its identity, then there's potential to bounce back.
But it really hurts to see VF being in Tekken's shadow. In a way Tekken killed off its competitors and now the other games are either completely dead or have to piggy back off of Tekken. Sad to see

TMM, are you *actually* familiar with this series? VF3 and 4 had *great* visuals that rivaled Tekken at the time. TK even copied VF's idea for walled stages and destructible environments. VF5 is a 15 year old game, and trashing its presentation now is pointless.
The reason VF failed was because of lacking content, more difficult to play, and focusing more on realism in gameplay.
No negativity, but VF ain't more realistic. Especially with its float combo's
@@tabkg5802 In terms of combat animations, VF is definitely more realistic than TK to this day. Much more fluid striking with a better sense of momentum. More realistic technique. Vf didn't even add the long combos until Final Showdown.
The main problem is, they didn't focus on catching people's eyes, and became obscure. Now VF is pretty much dead, and I have no hopes of seeing a new title.

Like I’ll give credit where credit is due in that it has its own mechanics that make stand apart from other fighting games, but as main man said, their characters are god awful and pretty forgettable tbh. Like Ik that tekken is yet to recognized the way street fighter and mortal kombat are, but my god, blatantly just reskinning a game to match your once rival is just a cheap way to do that.

If you close your eyes and listen to T3 and T7 sfx you can clearly tell the difference.

The only outdated sound effect in Tekken is the movement sound(jump, walk, knockdown) that you never hear unless you playing without music and voices. Presentation is terrible? When the intro shows you a character from another game who is the part of the story, every dlc trailer is hype and attractive af. Show your parents s3 trailer and ask them did they hyped if your brain can't able process these things. And not even talking about visual effects(slow motion, cross, RD, RA etc.). The graphics sucks, music is mostly using same instruments and maybe we can consider game modes as the minuses of the game. But even with that, Tekken is way superior than VF.
I can tell the difference between every single game in both series, but even if you've never played VF, you will have to try REALLY hard to pretend to not tell the difference between Ultimate Showdown and VF3, because US uses sound effects that were new to Final Showdown and the sound quality is considerably worse in VF3, maybe you'd have trouble diffentiating between vanilla VF5 and the two extension to VF4 because they do use the exact same sfx (kinda like Tekken 4 and 5), including the announcer, but nobody plays them anymore plus they have very different music.
@@LordRaptor Look...If I listen to a sound similar to a scooby doo staruday morning cartoon sfx in a fighting game from 2021, all I can do is laugh at it, sorry but no. The game STILL feels clunky (like in 2006) and the sounds don't help. I would play any fighting game out there (even VF) just because I can and its fun but...the thing is I would probably drop VF in 15 min due to presentation. Unlike others fgs that ended up playing for a couple of weeks or even months before returning to my main fgs.
