Both speakers here should be ashamed for letting homeowners restrict and shut down access to public land and a Hawaiian treasure.
Wish the public could have a vote on matters like this . Once it's gone, it's gone . If ran correctly, it could be a money maker for the state instead of always raising taxes or fees . Would in the long run help locals on not having to pay increases with the funds provided would cover and even jobs for locals .
Definitely should have been voted on by the public, not decided by wealthy politicians and their donors.
@@CerebralEnema💯❗️
at the kane'ohe neighborhood meeting, the local neighborhood overwhelmingly supported it.
@@bnakoa this is basically a historical landmark for the state. The entire state should be voting on it.
Please keep the stairs intact. Now I will enjoy watching Magnum PI "J Digger Doyle", it reminds me of the stairs.
Respecting the Aina by ripping out the stairs and further damaging and eroding the mountains. Whose smart idea was that?
Mr Green ❓
It’s not Green. City legislators. What happens when someone is injured or death? The injured or family of dead hikers can sue the state and property owners. I rather not hear a hiker or hikers slipped on slick stair and fell to their death. A lot of local beginners and avid hikers climb the stairs, not just tourists. There are other trails they can hike. Respect the neighborhood too.
@@Sharyk808 There are other trails that people get hurt on and have to be rescues, Diamond Head, Koko Head, Manoa Falls, Lanikai Pill boxes all easy hikes. As for neighborhoods, Maunawili is plagued with disrespectful hikers.
@@Sharyk808there’s been no fatalities on this hike.
This hike was entirely made to appease rich homeowners with zero care for the actual culture or legacy of the stairs.
Looks cool. As usual, Boomers don't want future generations to enjoy the things they had when they were young. Thank guys!
So do they know when the project will be done. Just wondering when we can hike the ridge again once the stairs are gone?
Mayor is a bum
This is the task given priority?
Go to a hearing and find out what the do.
Yay! When you get this finished let's finally pull down the natatorium too.
What are the counts of rescues on Lanikai Pill box, Diamond Head, Manoa Falls trail, Crouching Lion trail as compared to Haiku Stairs????
What happens if someone dies going the much more dangerous back route to the top of the ridge? Seems like this actually creates a new form of legal liability.
State and property owners get sued for multi million$. Now days people sue double digits. People don’t understand that’s their tax money your tax money and my tax money being used to pay them. There’s other trails to hike.
If you’re not going to fix it like you did KoKo head Then you should build an aerial tramway 🚡 because the infrastructure is there already at the Haiku ladder … The military already has the foundation built at the base of the mountain in the valley and the summit where the military used it’s aerial tramway to repair the antenna … There was a motor to power the tram … I think the Haiku summit aerial tramway could become the biggest tourist attraction in Hawaii .. Do the same at diamond Head .🤙💰.
The KOKO Head stairs is a man made contraption and has rescues like Haiku . Very hypocritical statement she made .
@@bluemoon3264 feel sorry for Hawaii having someone as inept as her as a politician.
How many people are in favor of this? Why no community involvement from Kaneohe residents?
The commmunity involvement was a bunch of complaints from rich white homeowners upset because their home is blocking public land access to the beautiful and historic trail.
Well said Mayor.
The work ahead is very dangerous.
Why railings not to be removed?
$2.6 million is a good price to complete, may be low.
Go Nakoa companies!!! Great press conference. 👍
Costco is ripping us off, I bought a 4.57 pd of steak meat and when I weighed it on my scale it read 4pds. and i calibrated the scale too. 🤔
Money 💰 well spent 👌 👏. It will be cheaper then getting a lawsuit. Thanks for keeping those illegal hikers off that trail 👣 👍 😂
There has not once been a death or injury on stairway nor a lawsuit. As for rescues, there have been far more rescues on the backside legal route to stairway, which is much more dangerous due to the fact that it is eroding and slippery. There has also been more rescues on Koko head and even diamond head trail.
@zanemarsh5547 dumbass I'm just saying if and when someone get injured or killed, then they'll likely sue
Boomer lawfare culture at its finest. Make sure you don't leave anything pleasant for your children. It'd be a shame if anything good survives your generation.
Hurray!
