  • Planning to visit Gloucester ? You shouldn't miss the opportunity to visit its Cathedral. Ever since moving to Gloucestershire we've always loved visiting Gloucester Cathedral. With its magnificent medieval architecture it is a wonder to explore. Probably more famous since the cloister fan vaults appear in the Harry Potter film franchise but it is steeped in history. Inside you'll discover some of the world’s finest examples of medieval architecture, from the giant pillars of the Norman Nave to the earliest surviving example of soaring Gothic Perpendicular. Stand in front of what was once the world's largest stained glass window and walk through its famous Cloister, which appeared in as parts of Hogwarts in three of the Harry Potter films.
    The monks’ daily lives revolved around this area and now you can marvel at the beautiful fan-vaulted ceiling, see the monks’ communal washing area and enjoy the peaceful garden with spectacular views of the Tower.

    Beautiful cathedral and great introduction to it. We live about 30 minutes down the road from it, so have visited fairly often, it is one of my favourites. Reason Six would be the excellent acoustics, and if anyone can manage it, I recommend combining your visit with a music event. We attended a Welsh Male Voice choir there some years ago, the sound was spectacular.

      Hi thanks for your lovely comments. Yes it does have fantastic acoustics. We once met Charity Qiun in the cathedral, she taught Ed Sheeran hope to sing and she did a very short performance in Lady Chapel. Gloucester Cathedral - Featuring Charity Quin

We just left Cheltenham last week. Now we are in Vienna, Austria, getting ready to wander the continent for 3 weeks. Then we will fly back to Texas from Paris. Real otters like to sleep during the day and feed themselves at night or the early morning. They don't hibernate. As for this Magenta Otter, I spend the winter in sunny Texas and the summer in sunny Gloucestershire. I don't like extreme hot or cold, haha!
      We come back next May. Let me know if you ever want to meet up. Cheers! Dara

    What a beautiful cathedral the lady chapel room looked beautiful. I can totally see why they filmed some of Harry Potter there it’s a stunning design. Lots of great information as I think they are all great reasons to visit. 😊👍

    Thank you. Excellent brief intro. I am reassured, since I visited many years ago and found the building somewhat cold. Maybe the wrong time of year. What is the app you mention?

    • @MikeandTeresaExplore
      @MikeandTeresaExplore  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the comments. The app is Gloucester Cathedrals own app. You can find it in either apple or android store by searching for Gloucester Cathedral. Depending what year you visited am sure they have improved the temperature inside. All buildings of this nature of on the cool side though particularly if you visit in winter. Mike
