- Early Monday afternoon Guard Jeremiah Fears tweeted that he was going to re-open his recruiting. There is also word that he will be re-classifying according to Kedric Prince of the Illini Guys.

Im not going to lie and say that i wasnt excited to see Jeremiah play.. i hate to see him go but in Brad i trust!! Brad will fill his slot with some one with equal or better talents. Brad and staff are recruiting at level we haven't seen since Self... As soon as o heard today Jasoer Johnson popped in my head. Dont worry Illini Nation we're going to be just fine...if this happened 4 or 5 years ago it be the end of the world but we are on anothe level now. Sunny your killing it man!!!!!!!? Keep it up!
Exactly right! This isn’t great news at all and it’s a bummer. But with the way we have things rolling, I am not the least bit worried.
We could have used Fears for 2025. He isn't a good fit for Illinois for 2024. Given the fluid nature of these "commitments", it almost seems pointless to sign guys up for the following year. In theory, we can pick up Jeremiah Fears from the transfer portal at the end of this year.

Should have nothing to do with Kasparas or Riley. They will be gone when Fears gets here. I think Jasper is strongly considering Illinois. And if not, Illinois has lots of guards coming out next year. No biggie.
Agreed Joseph, I do think it’s a bummer but nothing that Illinois ultimately can’t overcome.
I assume none of these guys are coming until they set foot on campus and then it's iffy. Not suprised.

Jasper is arguably better than Fears anyways. I believe he's an Antigua recruit.

If the reasoning is he wants to reclassify then there’s nothing we can really do about it and wish him luck.

If u watched the end of the sleepers live nba draft with the fears at the end i could tell he was debating leaving.
I didn’t end up getting a chance to watch it, I was too focused on the draft & seeing if TSJ would get drafted!

I don’t know if it’s that, I think they’re just really focused on being done with high school ball and want to play at the next level and collect some $$.

Jeremiah, clearly, has talent.
So, if he can reclassify + find a great fit (read minutes) + large NIL. Why not? He starts making $$$$ a whole year earlier.
And, who knows, he might be fashionable and transfer next year.

Yeah, I like Fears but I don't think he is our Jimmy Chitwood.
@UR_Right24 I agree completely.. just love the movie Hoosiers 😉 there's no room for another player for upcoming season, and even if there was, he'd have a hard time getting a lot of minutes. This roster is loaded. ILL 🧡 💙

If he wants to play right away I can't imagine Izzo is the type of coach to give the keys to a reclassified guard.
Disappointing. But C’est la vie. It’s the nature of the beast in the NCAA these days and this staff has benefitted more than not from this beast.

He wouldn't be playing over DGL? Based on what? Fears is far an away a better offensive player than DGL.
On 2024’s team? No I don’t think so. DGL has been hard at work all offseason and has a bigger body and frame to play defense. I don’t think Fears is physically ready for the big ten conference this fall.
