I remember this when I was very small and being devastated whenever I heard the music start because it meant my hopes of a cartoon where dashed. :D
haven't seen this in years. when ever I took a sickie off school I'd watch it with mum in the middle of the day.
Me to, I associate Selwyn Toogood BATB , Days of our lives and Young and the restless with having a day off school in the 1980's , Happy days indeed
@@robosborne7103 haha, I can relate to that so well
@@robosborne7103 me too
I was also a school kid during the 80s, and this show reminds me of my grandmother who used to watch it during the day. I found it boring as hell then and I probably still would today too. LOL
Blast from the past.
Reminds me of preschool days. This and young and the restless
by the time he's finished his prelogue and introduce the panel and given a run down on their cvs there is only time left for two letters lol
I remember watching this on tv
Any one notice that Selwyn Toogood is wearing a "safari suit" ? Short sleeved smart casual , ie matching top and pants, usually in a drip dry crease proof fabric, were very popular for men in the 1970s, and into the early 80s as here. Its kind of a school teacher/real estate agent look for the weekend. Despite the chocolate colour, and the huge collar of Toogood's version, perhaps its time for a revival ? Granddad core ?(Lol)
This is from another era. No camera crane swooping around, no screen video wall behind them or lighting on the desk in front of them. The people speaking were the stars, not the set.
Omg and yes Shona McFarland too
NZs greatest ever TV Presenter
I remember the Australian version fondly but nothing seems to survive of the original series..anyway, Selwyn Toogood is a very good host. Almost too good.
I love how the panel is outraged by the suggestion some dude shouldn't smoke inside with his infant. You could send your 8yo to the dairy to buy your pack of ciggies back then, on their BMX with no helmet because they weren't a thing yet.
People didn't know the connection between smoking and damage to developing lungs. I had breathing difficulty growing up at his time, but my dads chronic smoking was the main factor.
You forgot to mention the kid on the bike wouldn't be in a hi-vis either, or have a GPS tracker chained to his ankle in case he got raped or kidnapped on his way to the dairy and back.
Great memories!
Oh my gosh I've got it! Beauty & The Beast! Wow!
Tui looks like Lady Diana, and Liz is like Joan what’s-her-name...(is it Rivers or Collins?) What are these ladies family names and where are they now? Selwyn was a national treasure! Throwback to the 80’s at my grans indeed!
They are all deceased, as is most of the audience, unfortunately.
all ghosts now.
@@bigglesharrumpher4139 That's a morbid thought, but given it was 38 years ago, you're probably right.
Love Selwyn.
Honestly back in 1984 you could buy a house in NZ for $64,000.
Not in Auckland , Lol:)
@@robosborne7103 Depending where in Auckland maybe.
Mansion in Ak.
Think about it.
Yes you could buy a house in auckland in 1984 -$47,000 new 3 bedroom house on 1000sqm
I bought a house in Hamilton in 1990 for 72k
""Dear Selwyn , my husband Keith keeps asking me for a rusty trombone. I have been to everyone music store in Dannevirke and I cant seem to find one. Can you help me find one ??.from Lillian, Woodville , NZ
That older woman has incredibly tiny eyes.
Jean is my fav
Are any of these people still alive?
No
This is exactly how you keep women out of Politics..tie them up with trivia. This show ended when they actually had to air real issues with women and was made to stop broadcasting bogus letters and pretending that they were real. Only the male host knew the letters were fake. Real women didn't care about stains and what to cook for a nights meal, they wanted to know how to stop domestic violence, where to get an abortion and how to get a job that paid a living wage.
The sad thing here is the female panelists who thought these stupid questions were actually legit.
LOL
starquant 'politics' - unless it's the first word of a sentence -Isn't capitalised. As for your idiotic content, this is a 30+ - 3 DECADES -old programme, you fool. Just as most of the people seem here are no longer with us, so too are ideas, consenting, etc. It's known s 'progress', and NO, it's NOT CAPITALISED.
Idiots like you - who have little if any education, and are more than likely (at very most) in your early 20's, would also bitch and gripe about how 'uncivilised' the (ancient) Romans were -without the slightest grasp of time. Twits like you just repeat idiotic notions, without one drop of FACTS.
WTF are you even watching this for?!? To whine?!?! If love to rip whatever modern technological device your watching and writing on, and let you spend... oh, perhaps a few weeks in a place where women truly are considered 'second class' (your not going to like it. It'll be more than likely a third world nation, where young girls - IF they're even allowed to live - are treated REAL bad, and all the whining -which you're free to do in western countries, ISN'T allowed - will get your in a lot of trouble).
I'd be willing to bet your mum would say that her life for better as she grew up. It's PROGRESS.
Now shut the frak up.
Uneducated fool.
Starquant this was back when women would do as they were told for the greater good of their families!
@Stuart Maxwell I don't think it's your place to be telling any woman what she "ought" to be doing. Buggers me how you seem to know this as some kind of fact, I mean you're not a woman are you?. I noticed the other comments are in a similar vein as yours. I wouldn't go peeing in my pants just yet. The status quo in relation to a Patriarchal society is making sure the wheels are not only grinding to a halt but starting to go backwards. Everyone will jump up and down over the rights of a black man, but women can still go to hell.
