Your channel has helped get me back into the hobby. Specifically those time when the earth just kind of jumps up in front of my newest Eflite and I am sat at the dinning room table piecing it back together. It has even helped me get my husband into the hobby.
After watching all your videos and listening to what you had to say it paid off in end, People ask me question about radio setups and I tell them to go and watch 1 of your videos so they can learn in part I'm promoting your channel, I can't say enough good things that you have brought to the table!!!
Thank You.
Totally agree. He shows everything to help people out. Doesn’t hurt they are funny as heck!
I got one of these last summer. Flys like stink. A lot of fun to fly. My grass field is not good for it. Caused some damage. I now fly it from the road, very tight, bushes and trees along side where I fly from. It has lots of juice to get out of trouble. I do love it.
Try getting some mesh fabric from Lowe’s or Home Depot and stake it down. Instant runway.
Great job flying this little plane but even better still is Camera Crew's ability to video it so wonderfully. Thanks to you both!
I crashed mine badly and took the motor out and put it in my UMX Turbo Timber. It's a kick in the pants fun!
I have had my umx pitts for a couple mths no complaints I also fly it on 3s its been flawless I havent had any bind problems keep up the good videos
The part where you bring up full scale flying is completely different than RC..... Dead on point. Moving from 1st person control to 3rd person is a HUGE jump. The inverse isn't as relevant though. I started off in rc planes before the opportunity appeared to get some time behind the yoke of a Cessna. Having rudder control at your feet instead of being coupled with the throttle makes a drastic difference.
I've been out of the hobby almost 2 decades, got back in almost a year ago with 2 volantx 400mm warbirds. Jumped from those to a 64mm freewing A-10 which I destroyed on it's maiden. Next victim was the UMX air tractor, a prop strike after a landing gear failure caused a snowball effect of electronic problems which eventually led to getting a whole new A.T. which after almost a dozen flights is still pristine save from the rudder being a bit chewed up (literally) from my wife's new furbaby thinking it was a chewtoy (Hangs from the ceiling now). Picked up a TT Evo last month, snapped the LG springs on the 3rd flight, upgraded to the Falcon RC shocks suspension. I've had a few other boo-boos and dumbthumb situations where glue and/or pliers were involved mainly due to where I fly has an abundance of poles... light poles, football and soccer goals, and my depth perception at a distance isn't the greatest obviously.
I really like what I've seen from reviews and vids done with this plane, ordered one yesterday, have high confidence I won't smash it to pieces right off.
Good luck!!! Since you already have experience flying, from years ago, I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but remember, when you get some more stick time under your belt, you'll have a little less destruction per flight ratio ;) That's a good thing, since it gets expensive with all the repairs when you're first flying RC. It's also nice, since the survivability of each plane is so much better, you get longer to enjoy each one, but that being said, savor the enjoyment of the "new" experience! There's something about when you're a new RC pilot that does fade with time, even though it's still amazing, and still get nerves with new planes, it's just different when you're REALLY scared, when you're new - Live it up!!!
Love it. Nice flying Brian 👍🏻
Best flying umx, in my opinion. Love this plane.
Flew my V1 and Turbo Timber yesterday. So much fun.
I have one and love it, my fav plane in the UMX line.
Like the plane...... But LOVE your passion for the hobby shown in this vid.
Good things have happened.
Greater things are yet to come.
Cheers!
This is 100% my favorite plane! My "go to" for fun. I'm still kinda novice, but fly it so much I have great confidence with it. I backordered the 850mm Pitts 6 months ago and was notified it will arrive next month. Voodoo P51 is my #2, so I'm looking at the FMS dago red to scale up...
Dude nice speech! You captured it perfectly, the human element, the elders reconnecting with flight, the passion. You nailed it buddy! You also seem really wise with that 'tulsi gabbard' style stress induced grey streak in your hair !
"...Stress Induced / Tulsi Inspired..." - Loved it ;)
Brian an Camera Crew Put more effort an video Then anyone. They give tips an "secrets" most won't. Great Content.
I remember your grandpa when you flew his guillows p51 that he built a few years ago and you said to him that it flew great and it was a nice built plane. It was a nice gesture to your grandpa.👍
Great Lil Plane & Flyin... Thanks 😁😎
Best depth perception ever!
I started with an aeroscout. I kept crashing it. Then i got that pitts. Love it .
Brian Phillips my name is Gary West I flew when I was 16 gas powered DOS ugly stick with the fox 36 was my best training plane I'm flying again I got a bunch of the warbirds 400 mill and Wako and the pits your mix. my son bought mean NX eight lots of fun start out like a beginner flat like a pro
AWESOME! So glad you're back in the fold!!!! Flying these days is so much easier, and cheaper (both TIME and MONEY) to get in the air, and so glad you're back with us.
Thanks for being here!
Cute plane, super capable looking too!
My best friends got one the thing is fun to fly it makes so much lift and has so much power for its size
Brian your giving me the bug! This looks like so much fun. I’m 65 nd maybe when I retire I’ll get into this! But watching you especially when you program nd sync up your remote to the plane, it looks a little intimidating. I watched your Corsair assembly nd flight last night. Sweet looking plane. Anyway little by little I’m going to watch all of your Great videos. Kudos to your videographer lol. Alex from NJ
I loved this plane back when I first saw it and it's still on my top 3 list of planes to get I am just melting my brain on radio choice right now lol great stuff👍🏽
DX6- NX8. I still use my DX6 for almost everything, but the new ones have more flight data.
@Christopher Ieda I fly fpv quadcopters too so I am looking for a radio that I can use for my planes as well as my quadcopters I love the size of my radiomaster tx12 but it's cc2500 so I was looking into the new radiomaster boxer 4in1 but I'm not too sure on how well it would work with planes that have flaps retracts ect....
I have the umx pitts umx turbo timber umx twin otter I fly it on the NX6 all fly great
NX8 will be what you want, for anything beyond throttle/rudder/ailerons/elevator. Flaps, and thrust reverse will require extra channels.
@Mike R what about the radiomaster boxer? I fly fpv quadcopters also and I kinda want one radio that does it all...
I flew my first RC plane in 1975, with the old classic Kraft 4 channel analog radio in the orange box. It was a Falcon 56 with an OS40 (?) that took me a year to build. I got back into it briefly around 12 years ago when my son was 8 or 9 - but he never developed interest.
I retired 2 years ago (now 60) and recently decided to get back into it. Bought a NX8 yesterday and ordered the 850mm Pitts from E-Flite - but it’s backordered until April. My local shop has this UMX Pitts in stock - I’m going to go get it today; to hell with waiting until April.
Why tell you all this? To thank you. I’ve watched at least a dozen of your vids, using the info to decide which airplane to get. I’m a little nervous flying such a small quick airplane right out of the gate - but I think you’ve convinced me that AS3X and Safe shipped help me keep it intact… lol. Thanks again - keep up the good work!
Followup: I bought the airplane as mentioned. It took me 5-6 flights to get the trims back to zero and the CG nailed. And it is an AMAZING flyer… I highly recommend it; I love this little thing. Can’t wait for my 850mm to get here.
I love mine, for those interested they glue back together well 😳 😬 I got it after a couple of eachine/Volantex planes, enjoying flying it now post repair and being a little more careful
Thanks again reverend Philips. What a way to go getting hit by a beer truck. If I could only be that lucky. Lol. That plane is awesome. One day I will take it out of the box. Way to many planes. Thanks bud and Meagan. You guys are fun.
This one is on sale right now. I got it at a very low price with discount code and rewards. Cool little plane!
I added UMX Timber lights to a UMX Voodoo and a UMX A-10. Looks great! Easy to do
They do look so dang good! For the cost added, I have a hard time forgiving the absence of led's...especially when I try to fly in poor lighting conditions.
Good stuff sir
I've been looking at the pitts , however the timber x looks good aswell.
Full Scale People in Planes an Rc Planes are meant to fly not Crash.
Sooooo, I started 16 years ago with Umx champ Little 1 cell no Safe, as3x,,,,.
16 Years later,,,,,They are built Well for Size. I agree 3 or 4 th plane . Bi planes are Quick an unforgiving if ur not a rudder Man.
Tks Brian
I have a few good 3s 450 or 550 mAh Packs that are still like new. Wonder if they would fit and if it could handle the weight. They are Quadcopter packs.
i would say the umx radian small glider thats just elevator and rudder is where i tell people to start
Please do the IX line, I'm looking to upgrade from DX8 Gen1
I'm on my third UMX TT and conflicted about which UMX - the TX or the Pitts - I should get next.
Nice!
Whats a good percent on rudder to aileron mix?
I think it was a screw up on Horizons part, the pulling to the left under power. Mine did the same thing. I'm thinking more about a rudder/throttle mix, cuz just mechanically trimming it, now it pulls to the right, while gliding. Think the moToR was mounted with the wrong offset.
Might be, but still love flying this little one!!!
i always feel like this liitle plane sounds like its tearing itself apart everytime i fly it. its a good little plane. doenst have as much lift as i thought a bi plane would but the extra power takes care of that
Did someone mention 'Rocket's '..... lol on my ch. ... i flew one to 46k keep preaching the fun...
Why is this plane so high pitched in sound? The new umx Waco is no where as high pitched and it’s a biplane. Are they different motors?
The UMX citation longitude was quietly discontinued
I was wondering if you could offer some advice to a non flyer who's looking for a 1st that will grow with me in the size of 3.5' - 4', I don't have air fields available so I think I need large tires and all that safe tech to help.im not sure on the bind and flys if the safe tech is in the radio? Or in the plane( I know, dumb question🤦♂️) .reason is I'd like to get a nice radio right off that I can acclimate to and use in future planes.however sir I'm ignorant on these topics? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you can afford it, get an NX8 or better radio. If on a budget, at least a DX6e. As for the plane, personally I'd recommend a Turbo Timber Evolution with full throw throttle at 70%... keep the power tame until you're used to how the plane handles. The Evo handles great at 50-60% power on 4S when you're knocking the dust off after a hiatus.
The SAFE/AS3X tech is in the reciever and to a lesser extent the transmitter. You don't have to have a Horizon/E-Flite plane but you need their Spectrum reciever and compatible transmitter. Your best bet is get an E-Flite BNF so all you have to do is mount the battery properly for CG and get your radio bound.
If you were considering buying a micro rc plane and you had to choose between this UMX Pitts & the UMX Waco what one would you choose?
Tough call! Both are great, but I'd lean to the Waco. Slightly better flying for MY STYLE of flying...but not necessarily BETTER.
bprc.me/Waco
vs
bprc.me/Pitts
...both are amazing!
@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks for reply, I'm becoming bias towards the Waco but after the day I'm having I think I'm going to give up before I get started flying again! In the UK It's becoming impossible to source parts for FMS EFLITE etc I was going to treat my mxs to a new fusealage after a heavy landing and I can no longer get pats in the UK! Hell I'd buy a whole new model if I could but I can't! Been in touch with FMS they have the stock I need but now have a policy not to post large items to UK from their online store not even a main wing. Not forgetting horizon uk has gone too ! Brexit still causing huge headaches!! 😢
@BrianPhillipsRC here we go.... no waco for sale in UK at mo!!
They should have done it with retracts
