  • Removing ink from any small table top press is a pretty simple operation and can be done in less than five minutes. Keep your press and rollers clean between printing jobs and your life will be easier.

Thanks for posting this! It's very helpful and I appreciate that you showed the whole process rather than fast forwarding.

And Thank You for your kind words. You notice I also do my videos in real time - partly because I don't do any editing, and wouldn't know how to speed up the video, anyway, but also because then you can see just how long it takes to do each of these necessary tasks on this little press. I'll be doing more as I catch up with some of my other projects.

Thanks! That's "Julie's Press". It was a Christmas gift from her husband.... BTW - *all* printing presses are beautiful... ;) - some are just prettier than others when they're properly cleaned up and professionally restored and repainted... ;) Thanks! You're inspiring me to show off more of my restored presses... as soon as I get a round tuit...

I find it easier and quicker on a small tabletop to take the rollers and disk off the press and clean them separately.

Yes. That works fine as well. In fact, maybe I should do another video showing it being done that way - with the rollers being held in my handy little roller block set.... as soon as I make some more and have stock on hand...

I favour removing the rollers on my Adana 8x5 but on anything bigger I use your method above. The only variation is that once I hVe cleaned the disc for the first time I cover it in paper and ‘print’ the excess ink onto it which I then remove. I then dry the sheet and use it to experiment with overprinting etc...

Where do people get these presses?!?!?!?

    • @NoDeadlines

Madie - They are "all over the place"... If you have one, another will find you. If you don't have one, just go looking. These are available on the Facebook "for sale" lists, and your local Craigslist listings. They are also available from a dozen or more old printers who save and restore them. I used to restore and sell them frequently, but recent health matters have slowed me down a bit. I have posted a list of sources on my web site at excelsiorpress.org/forsale/fundraising.html - and don't forget eBay. They are frequently listed for sale there - just be sure to confirm that all required parts are included - often critical parts are missing. If you have any questions, send them to me and I will evaluate what you have found. Prices range from $200-$1000 each. Most will require new ink rollers - for about $200.
